SYTYCD anyone??

Love this show. The talent is amazing. I love Brandon and Janine and Ade and Evan.

keymom, it’s one of my favorites, too! I just hate that it’s rigged, or at least it appears so. I don’t think the dancers randomly draw a style - I think the producers decide who gets what, thereby pretty much assuring the bottom 3.

I love Janette and Brandon. Janine’s great, too - can’t wait until she gets unsaddled with Phillip next week. He’s holding her back. I don’t see why the judges are so fond of Kayla, either. She dances well but has no personality whatsoever.

Hope Caitlin goes home tonight. I don’t care much for Evan, either (sorry!) but I don’t think he’ll be in the bottom 3. Jason, maybe?

Wish Mary would quit her screeching, too

Lol, DH won’t even stay in the room with me while SYTYCD is on. He can’t take the screeching and the Hot Tamale Train. I’m betting Phillip will be gone soon. I’m with you Patsmom on Caitlin going home…we’ll see. I like Janine too.

I think SYTYCD is way more entertaining than Dancing With the Stars.

If you want to see some real moves, check out “Dance Your Ass Off” on the Oxygen channel. There are no words.

DD is a dancer and some of her older friends have auditioned. We like to watch but I can’t take Mary’s screaming and the hot tamale train either. We try to mute it when she starts up. And can I just mention Nigel’s teeth? Drives me crazy to look at him.
DH can’t stand it. Last night I was watching and he couldn’t take it. I finally changed the channel because I didn’t want to hear him complain.
I don’t like DWTS. Totally different show.
What makes SYTYCD for me is the choreography. Mia and Wade and some of the others are amazing at what they do.

The critiques this year seem less substantive and more about propping up the favorites.
Too much banter between the judges and not enough judging IMO.

Love the choreography on SYTYCD. Also the critiques seem to be spot on. Mute button hit each time Mary comes into screen.

I like SYTYCD, but I agree about Mary. She actually has valid critiques, if she could just tone herself down people might actually listen to her. Also, the solos are way too short. On the plus side, I like the emphasis on choreography.

D was a competitive dancer for 10 years, but she and I prefer to watch MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.” We like watching the group dances, and the judges are a lot more low-key (although Li’l Mama and Shane Sparks could cut back on the "yall"s - as in “Y’all was doin yall’s thing”) The routines on ABDC are unbelievably together and we’ve seen some amazing creative choreography. It’s mostly hip-hop, but they force the groups to infuse other styles & techniques through the weekly challenges.

I like SYTYCD, but it’s so heavy on Contemporary, which gets old after a while. And like all of these shows, there’s too much talk - not enough dancing!

Love SYTYCD too! I agree that there seems to be more chatter than actual critiques this time. Finger stays on the mute button as soon as Mary comes on (after we’ve already turned the volume just in case I miss it)! I agree that they seem to be really promoting their favs rather than giving equal hope to all! Can’t WAIT for Caitlin to go though I do like Jason, love Phillip (more in his genre though) and don’t really see what the fuss is about with Kayla! I don’t think she’s THAT good!

Can I just say, I wish they would stop going on stuff that the dancers have no control over…and how is it that when the judges don’t get the dance or meaning of it, it is still the dancers fault and not the coreographer who arranged it? It kind of irks me that they fawn all over the coreographers every time!

^My husband and I note the “obligatory choreographer shoutout” in every critique, too. :)

We think Brandon is going to win, because he’s so amazing. I really like Evan, and my husband just adores Janine.

I have not enjoyed this season as much as prior ones because it seems to be less about the dancing somehow. One of the contestants in a prior season went on to be one of the pros on DWTS. It was nice to see prior contestants back as choreographers SYTYCD too.

So I can’t watch tonight - TiVo conflict. With a nod to spoiler alert for west coast, would appreciate folks letting me know who left. I like Brandon and Janette and we mute when Mary talks which is shame since she does have good comments from time to time. You’re right though that this year not so much critique. But I think the overall level of the dancers has been pretty high so maybe critiques were harder. . The guest judge last night tried to do some critiques but was a little clumsy at it I thought.

How about the Russian folk dance last night? I felt so sorry for the dancers. They couldn’t help that they had to do a weird dance and thejudges didn’t like it.

yah, Brandon and Janette are safe so far

I love it! I think a girl will win this year. They are very deep in talent. Brandon too. I couldn’t figure out how/why Mia had such an issue with him…
As far as Mary…yeah, she can be annoying, yes she can  but I howled when she told Nigel to “pipe down english muffin!!”

Phillip and Caitlin gone but both going on the tour

My D and I always dvr SYTYCD so that we can ff through most of the judges critiques. I was floored this evening when Phillip was let go. He is such a joy to watch. His desire and need to express himself through dance is obvious. He isn’t a favorite of mine, but compared to the other two who were on the chopping block with him this evening, I think he was the better dancer and the better performer.

I’m sorry to see Caitlin go. I’ve always enjoyed her dancing, but I think being partnered with Jason weakened her chances. Plus, the both of them got saddled with some very odd pieces (by chance or by design).

Evan has been a favorite of mine since last year, when he was cut in Las Vegas. He’s a young Gene Kelly - something we don’t see very often. The emphasis has been on modern and hip hop lately. It’s so refreshing to see someone that isn’t a break dancer.

I agree that the show is rigged, for whatever reason. The success or failure of certain dancers is certainly engineered throughout the competition. The show is a commercial success because someone (probably Nigel, maybe Mary) knows how to work the public. I just rejoice that dancing is put out there where we can see it. I work in music theatre, where public sponsoring is very important. The fact that regular people are getting interested in an art form like dance is wonderful.

I thought Ade’s solo was outstanding. He hasn’t really shown everything he can do since he has been paired with Melissa and the spotlight has been on her, while he seems to just be there to lift her! I’d love to see him dance with Janette or Jeanine.

I was sorry to see Phillip go too. Though what was the whole “you get to still go on tour” thing about? So it’s now the top 12 on tour?

And Nigel says he has always thought of Evan & Randi as one of his top…I am still waiting to hear the judges say something positive about Evan. I for one am looking foward to some new couples to see if anything changes in the judges views about some of them!

Interesting they didn’t show the coreographers for the Russian folk dance last night after the performance…

Love this show!!! My D is a MT major, but a lifelong dancer and we just love to tape the shows and re-watch various dances. The choreography is quite often just awesome! I generally like Mia Michaels, Wade Robson, Mandy Moore and I think I’ve liked everything that Tabitha and Napoleon have ever done.
I was so happy to see Caitlin go this week. I thought she was boring to watch, although technically good. I also agree with whoever mentioned they weren’t too hot on Kayla. I just don’t get the judges’ excitement about her. Again, technically great, but she does NOTHING for me when I watch her. I think Ade has so much more to offer than he’s had a chance to show. I love Janine. I think she has it all and is so fun to watch. Randi too! I think Brandon is probably the very best dancer this year, but I just don’t care about him. I don’t think he’s a good partner. I think he dances only for himself (and I don’t mean that in a good way). Maybe that’s what Mia Michaels was seeing?? Not sure.
Can’t wait for the tour information to go up on the website. I hope they are coming to a city near me!
Hahaha laxmom. I loved your comment about Mary. Yes I did!

Anyone watch last night? I just loved Janine and Jason. Wow, what an impovement for Jason with Janine as his new partner. Great chemistry.Great choreography. My favorite of the night.
Thought Kupono is the weakest guy, followed by Evan. Still underwhelmed by Kayla. Brandon is growing on me. Still like Ade.
Enjoyed the Hair routine very much, but of course I’m a big MT fan.
Also loved the Bollywood number that the girls did! So fun!
