YES!! - I would have been so PO’d if today’s result had been different!

OK, I’m traveling and did not see the results - who is out?

Spoiler alert here (to answer Singersmom07) - the bottom three were Jose, Billy, and . . . LAUREN. So the judges did the only thing they could do and Billy and Jose are out.

Jose (as it should be) and Billy :(. The one ‘saved’ was Lauren. Who knows how she got sent to the bottom three.

I love this show, because I love the dancing, but I really dislike this season’s format. With the preponderance of teenage girls voting, males do better in the vote count. I liked the chemistry that developed between the two dancers when they were paired for many dances. My feeling is that Dancing with the Stars has its successful format, but SYTYCD didn’t need to copy it in order to succeed. I really hope they go back to the old format.

I think that the only reason Lauren was in the bottom three was because both of her dances were boring. Do you think Nigel ever scolds the choreographers for basically causing good contestants to tank with the voters?

We were out and got home right before the end of the show. I about flipped when I saw Lauren there. I haven’t watched the rest yet, but I assume that Billy was 100% sure he was going once Lauren was in the bottom three. So Billy does the only memorable dance of the night and goes home.

Nigel did mention Billy’s “androgenous” look, which came as close as he could to saying, “Okay, it’s been confirmed - you can be too gay for So You Think You Can Dance.” I don’t think the voters care about a dancer’s actual sexual orientation. A guy just needs to be able to turn on manly/sexy when he’s dancing. Billy just didn’t have that in him. That’s why the homeless person dance worked so well for him. With the baggy clothes and cap over his face, his character could have been a boy, girl, man, etc. Didn’t matter to the dance.

But I did like that Nigel told Billy that casting folks, etc have noticed him. That is really the most important thing about the competition…for people who hire dancers to see the dancers and hire them.

“I liked the chemistry that developed between the two dancers when they were paired for many dances.”

Fireandrain, I agree. I have enjoyed, however, seeing the all stars. I was trying to think of a way that they could still be incorporated into the show. I guess I want to have it all. Lol.

Missypie, yesterday I went to the SYTYCD blog on FOX and was surprised (no shocked) at some of the homophobic comments posted about Billy and Robert. Several of those posters said they vote for AdeChike multiple times on Wed nights. The main reason seems to be they felt the judges were unfair in his dance selections and his critiques. But they also felt he, Kent and Jose’ were the only “manly” dancers left in the competition. In a weird sort-of ironic twist – Mia’s mean comments several weeks ago to AdeChike, set off a fire storm of support for him.

Yes, I agree and that is one of the reasons I like the new format.

I’m shocked too, that homophobes would not only watch a dance show, but then post about it.

Now that Billy and Alex aren’t there, I doubt I’ll see any “wow” dancing and may not tune in again. I would be much more interested if Jose plus Robert or AdeChike went home. Which, doesn’t mean that they should have gone home. I would just be exited to see Lauren, Kent, and Billy in the finale.

“In a weird sort-of ironic twist – Mia’s mean comments several weeks ago to AdeChike, set off a fire storm of support for him.”

I never voted until the night Mia was sooo mean to AdeChike. I have voted for him since then. So there, Mia! Ha.

i am so bitter than billy bell was voted off. he was clearly the best and clearly the favorite since LAST season! i still like the top 4 though. jose should have been kicked off WEEKS ago

For what it’s worth, my thoughts on Billy Bell are these:

yes he is a fabulous dancer who already had a career going. He does definitely have a certain style (for lack of a better word) which Nigel characterized last night as androgynous. I think that’s a fair assessment, in spite of a bunch out there who are very indignant at the use of the word and want to call Nigel a “homophobe”. That is just silly.

Billy’s term on this show will only serve to boost his career, as Mia pointed out, and really his going any farther in the competition would not accomplish anything more significant in that regard. Perhaps it could even be deleterious for him, as he was already “injured” to the extent he chose to sit out a round of competition pieces. And it will only get more intense from here on.

The other observation is that since Billy started out the competition as a wonderful dancer (“Billy FREAKIN’ BELL!!!”), he really has not shown all that much growth. He didn’t have all that much growing to do, IMO.

So I am happy with the four who are left. I hope it will come down to Lauren and Kent and would be very happy if either of them won.

I do think it’s androgynous. I don’t think the directors of *West Side Story *are going to be calling him to be a Jet or a Shark any time soon. He looks so small and so young…I think some age will help his career.

I was never a big Billie fan until that piece this week he danced with Ade - the duet between the homeless guy and executive. I keep having to re-watch it. Absolutely tremendous. I’m sorry he had to go. He’s very, very good but may do better in a more arty/serious dance venue?

I will be at peace with Lauren, Adicheke or Robert winning. Just can’t tolerate Kent. And I always preferred Fred Astaire to Gene Kelly so even though he seems to channel Gene Kelly he doesn’t get my vote. If I had to pick, I’d go with Robert.

“But they also felt he, Kent and Jose’ were the only “manly” dancers left in the competition.”

Um, Kent? Manly? Really? He pings my gaydar like crazy, though I’m not sure he’s figured it out himself yet, or, given the community he hails from, feels he can be open with his sexuality. I’d bet the percentage of contemporary male dancers who are straight is very, very small, but agree that some are able to project masculinity just fine when dancing (see Danny Tidwell).

Also Gaydar on Kent but he clearly is not out. I am rooting for Lauren. Kent will do just fine with some Broadway stuff in his future. Adicheke and Robert do nothing for me.

But again, it’s not* real *manly - it’s manly to teen girls manly. Look at Justin Beiber, for goodness sake. His voice hasn’t even (or won’t even?) changed but he’s somehow a heart throb. Look at Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy back in the day - pretty and non-threatening. Kent definitely has teen girl appeal - Billy didn’t.

Okay, I think we’ve seen the first male-male breakup dance on SYTYCD. I thought it was great.

That was an amazing dance.
