SYTYCD new season

Back at the start of the season I posted about Mia: “…the mean streak she can show to dancers she doesn’t care for is simply unprofessional.” I’m resting my case! There’s been some chatter on other boards about a racist pattern in who she chooses as a victim each season–Danny, Brandon (though he got an apology late in the game), and now Adechike. Food for thought I guess.

I have to disagree about Robert’s masculinity. He has an Adonis-like body and face, but his demeanor is effeminate, combined with goofy. His dancing has also fallen very flat for me. I’m not surprised he’s not pulling in the votes, and I don’t think Nigel’s attempt to resurrect him by telling us he works hard is going to make a difference.

Yeah, momma, i am the one that argued with you about Mia being mean. I usually do appreciate her critique still, but I am getting kinda close to eating “them thar words” . Somebody wee-wee’d in her cheerios, it seems. :)

Interesting, daughter and I talked at dinner tonight at the pattern in Mia’s targets for criticism and they have almost all been black. Very weird. She’s a brilliant choreographer but needs to be relieved of judging responsibility. Also, the stupid ribbon around her forehead does not make her look like Martha Graham. It makes her look silly. Bleh!

So, does anyone know what happened to Mary Murphy? I thought she was supposed to be choreographing routines this season.

I know she got on a lot of people’s nerves, but I always enjoyed her crazy enthusiasm. I can’t remember HER ever saying something so blatantly mean.

MARY MURPHY, WHERE ARE YOU WHEN WE NEED YOU??? LOL

So, apparently Mia got the message. She did apologize and I think it was an earnest apology. I know from first hand experience, that woman is passionate about dance.

Oh Alex, It made me cry. He was so wonderful. But I think there is real danger in these shows. DD is aware of the physical stress American Idol puts on young voices. It seems that the dance could do the same for dancers as they try to not only learn a new genre but excel at it in a week. Alex is not the first to suffer a show ending injury. Here’s hoping it is not a career ending one. 80% probability for full recovery is a little low for my liking.

I also thought that Mia’s apology was sincere. And wow - I needed the tissues tonight for the reults!!

We also got a little teary. As did Cat, who very obviously cares so much for the kids on the show.

By the way, I just do NOT get why Cat has not been nominated for an Emmy. Seriously! Ryan Seacrest??? UGH!

Cat is beautiful - inside and out. Always a delight.

We were so happy that Adicheke was NOT in the bottom 2.

Agree very much that the routine that injured Alex was irresponsibly choreographed. Those jumps at the end were ridiculous.

Mia’s apology was well spoken but I can’t get over her cruelty on Wednesday night. It was really over-the-top and disturbs me very much.

agree with sewhappy …may have been a sincere apology although i am not totally sure it wasnt somewhat forced upon her perhaps by the responses on websites… (ie would she have made it if people hadnt responded to it) … but glad adicheke still in and wasnt in the bottom two.

I didn’t feel her apology was sincere. She said it was “tough love” or something along those lines. Well, I don’t see her doling out “tough love” to everyone else on the show. Hmmph!

She never addressed/apologized for saying (during Adechike’s time for feedback) how much she missed Alex and how she wondered how amazing this routine would have been with him in it. Really–how is that showing “tough love” to Adechike?

Yes, I miss Alex, too, and wonder how awesome that routine would have been with those two working together. But I NEVER would have said that to Adechike. If I had even mentioned Alex in Adechike’s feedback time, it would have been along the lines of how difficult it must have been to work with a new partner at the last minute.

Apology, schmology. I don’t buy it.

I agree about Cat. She’s wonderful with and very caring to the dancers. It’s surprising that she hasn’t been nominated for an Emmy. Maybe she will be after this season. :)

Bump

What did you think about last night’s results show?

^^^^Devastated for Alex and praying his surgery is successful and he will be a contestant next season.

I didn’t think Mia’s apology was sincere, but her choreography was spot-on. Her blatant favoritism for Jose’ and brutal critique of Adechike, probably made viewers vote of Adechike, just to spite Mia and keep in him out of the bottom two.

Another injury. Now Ashley is automatically in the bottom 3. I just think they are pushing these kids too hard for the glory of the choreographers and in trying to get these Emmy nominations for the choreographers. It really should not be about who can choreograph the hardest routine and throw it at them.

You have a good point there, Singersmom. Some of the tricks and over the top choreography tonight was amazing.

On the other hand, could the judges/producers of this show be any more biased towards Jose? I mean, honestly…they gave him Dom to do his own style with!!! They at least were honest about how bad his “broadway” routine was, but sought to allow him to make it up with the “B-Boy” number. And yes that piece was great, but I still think Jose should be the one to go home.

Travis’ routine was amazing, but I really think that it is unfair for a contestant to receive such an advantage over the others. It practically guarantees them votes and safety until next week. It almost reminds me of the cancer dance last summer where the ballet dancer (that probably would have been the one to go normally) was not even in the bottom, and the fantastic salsa dancer Janette was sent home as a result. Emotionally-hefty dances that impact the audience in such a way should probably be saved for results shows so that everyone can participate.

Tonight’s show was one of the best evenings of dance I’ve ever seen on TV–and elsewhere. This format really allows the choreographers to bring out the best in the dancers, many pieces tonight were extraordinary, and the dancers hit it out of the park. At this point, it doesn’t really matter who’s America’s favorite, it’s a treat to watch them each week. What a night!

How about Mia’s attempt to “make nice” to Adachike?
Do you think the show’s producers might have prompted it? It didn’t seem very genuine to me. Evenso, she still praised Kent way more for the performance. Notice Nigel said “so now everyone can stop sending letters to Mia”?

Anyone know what the story is with Denise Wall, and what her struggle is? She’s an amazingly talented teacher (just look at Travis and Danny).
