Well, it’s time to start this year’s thread. Did anyone see the last dance of tonight in TX? The exorcist dancer was back but with his family. The little girl was darling and their dance was cool. A lot of good dancers that will sort our later, but that was worth a mention.

Yeah, it brought tears to my eyes for sure!
I am not sure what that little one will do in Vegas, however. :)

I will say that I LOVE that they no longer waste time showing really awful dancers in these audition shows…they just showcase special ones. SO GLAD!!!

Also, I have never actually felt ill from watching dance before, but that first guy that did all those contortions with his arms made me feel physically ill. Glad the second guy like that (the one with the fluency issues) made it through. He was not so graphic with the contortions, and there was much more to his dancing than that!

I liked how they sent that cute little boy to Disney instead of Vegas!

The stutterer really got to me. He was a good dancer too! Glad they sent him to Vegas!
I really liked the kid whose family had to live in their dance studio for awhile, and the quirky kid who works at his family’s haunted house.
The above were all guys. I realize the girls are really blending together for me. No Eliannas yet this year!

they should have sent the kid who lived in the dance studio’s Dad to Vegas also.He was just as awesome as his son.Too bad there’s an age limit!

dbwes, I think there are some very strong girls. It’s too soon in the season for me to remember their names.

D my dancer isn’t home this summer. This is the first time I’ll be watching SYTYCD without her. :(

Three more gorgeous girls tonight. I don’t learn names at this point, but there was Former Anorexic Ballet girl, Black Costume Ballet girl, and Shaved Head girl. Fabulous!

The brother sister/salsa dancers were good BUT that poor girl needed more clothes on! I was so distracted worrying about a wardrobe malfunction, I missed some of the dancing.

^^Oh I so agree - she was as near naked as she could be. Definitely needed more clothes.

Some great dancers with great attitudes. And then there was ribbon boy.

Okay, I just saw this week’s auditions in Boston and I’m picking a finalist. It may be a tad premature (you think?!), but my D (also a ballroom dancer) and I love, Love, LOVE(!):

Kate Kapshandy.

It was noted that she looked like one of the professional dancers on Dancing With The Stars. She’s the best SYTYCD ballroom specialist to EVER have appeared on the show! Ballroom dancers are always at a disadvantage when solos come into play, but hopefully she pulls it off.

I’m not a ballroom expert, but Kate sure looked like future DWTS material to me.

Ribbon Boy!

I have yet to pick the dancer that I think will win. I have a knack for spotting them. The first time I saw Melanie I knew she was going to win.

Time to revive the thread, now that we have our Top 20. Who do you like?

I like to watch Fick-shun but I don’t think he will last long. I was happy to see that all the girls don’t look alike as they did last season.

^^^i like him too ( is that how you spell his name??!)

I also liked the 3 tappers especially the AA tapper - sorry, don’t know names.

I have a soft spot for the blonde who was dropped on her head in Vegas, but have to wonder if she will be able to improve and tough out the competition - she seems young.

One jazz, Two hip hop, two animation, three tap, four ballroom, and EIGHT contemporary. Did I count right? What happened to ballet? Or broadway? Or Bollywood. I’d like to see more variety in dancers, which would also give us more variety in dances.

And I would love to see them add tap and animation as a categories in competition. If the tappers and animators can look silly doing contemporary, why not let the contemporary dancers look silly doing tap and animation.

I think DuShaunt Fik-Shun may surprise and last longer than you think. The challenge will be to pair him with shorter girls and/or choreograph around the fact that he’s going to be a couple/few inches shorter than his partners.

I suspect that for a serious ballet dancer associated with a company or attending a high level ballet school, taking the time off for this show is just not that feasible and not a meaningful career move. The contemporary, Broadway and hip hop dancers who go far in the show can sometimes parlay their exposure into movies and other TV jobs. I’m not sure that kind of opportunity exists for a ballet dancer dedicated to his art. So, why bother? Nothing would please me more than seeing another Danny Tidwell on SYTYCD, but I don’t see it happening. (For that matter, the mere survival of the show past this season is seriously in question, as its ratings continue to fall.)

You are right though, they have had a fair a,out of ballet dancers in the past. I also thought it weird that there were none.

I missed the first half hour last week, so I don’t think I saw all those contemporary dancers. I don’t have a favorite yet. I’m just making this post so the thread will have a little star on it and will be easy for me to find in the future. LOL
