Takata Airbag Settlement Check- anyone else get one?

I only vaguely recall filling out the form for our vehicle with the defective airbag (took over 8 mo to get replaced) but got a surprise class action settlement check in the mail today. Anyone else get one?

Did you mean Takata?

@BunsenBurner - Yes - TAKATA. It autocorrected but I didn’t notice until I took the matzo balls out of the boiling water and it was too late to fix it. Have asked the mods (if any are around) to please fix it.

@BunsenBurner -Did you get a check?

We did.

It was more than I expected. Usually this settlements are just a few dollars to the class, and the attorneys make a fortune. This wasn’t huge, but a nice surprise.

Hmmm, we had a Honda and had to get Taketa airbag fixed. Don’t recall a form and no check. :frowning:

No - we sold/gifted the cars that had those dang airbags. Had to wait for ages to have them replaced!

What make and year of car did you get a check for? We haven’t gotten one yet.

@mathmom? What is your car? This was DH’s car. 2010 Lexus. I do vaguely recall having to submit something and put in his car’s VIN number.

We haven’t gotten anything. We had five cars that needed replacement airbags. We still own one of them. Our kids each own one now. The other two have gone to the great car graveyard in the sky.

I’m not going to hold my breath that any of us will see checks.

So it looks like yes, you had to fill out the form/submit a claim in order to qualify for payment in the settlement https://www.autoairbagsettlement.com/en/Home/SubmitClaim Looks like the application for reimbursement closed last July. We have owned the car for 10 years. We had another Lexus during that time but don’t think it qualified to be included.

Did you waive some rights to get a check?

My D just got a check. She did submit the form.

Our Honda had it replaced, too, but I don’t remember getting a form. Oh well.

It was one of those class action things and like most of those things we probably had to say we weren’t planning to file anything separately (we weren’t) and the airbag was already replaced, so at least for us it was fine. What would you be concerned about waiving?

Not everyone will have yet got a replacement, so waiving the rights to sue would be foolish, no? Or was this only for the post replacement group?

We got the check in the last couple of days. We owned two ancient Toyotas until last January. (One has been replaced with a brand new Toyota.) It was for a little over $60 so not a lot!

I don’t remember a form either and my Honda had its airbags replaced 3 times- twice on the driver’s side and once on the passenger side. Aargh.

I don’t remember an offer for cash back either. Like @Onward’s Honda, my 2001 Accord has had airbags replaced 3 times for different recalls.

I don’t think it came in the mail- I think I heard about it and pulled it up on line.
