Take The Challenge - National Walking Day, April 1

Walk around neighborhood 30 minutes
CC total 31 hours 45 minutes

(clapping hands!!!)

Just returned from 30 minute walk, where I met some new neighbors and saw some old neighbors.

CC total 32 hours 15 minutes

Thirty minute dog walk earlier today in sunny 60 degree weather. Wonderful!

Total CC time: 32 hours 45 minutes

60 minute walk around the lake. 80 degrees and lots of ice still on the lake - kind of like air conditioning.

Total CC Time 33 hours 45 minutes

Get it, hrh19!! That’s a great walk!

And the last walk of the day after dinner - 15 min
Total CC time: 34 hours

45 minute walk with walking buddy this time

Total CC time: 34 hours 45 minutes

Curious if most of you who have participated walk on a regular basis. Do you? Is it more seasonal? Is it a routine???

Love that some have buddies, some have pups, some chat with neighbors, some choose feet over public transportation!

Another 30 min for me!

Total CC time: 35 hours 15 min

Just got back from the gym – 60 minutes
CC total: 36:15

I walk pretty much every day. 3-4x a week at cardiac rehab, out and about the other days. I ttry to get at least 10,000 steps.

90 minutes - 60 with my usual walking group and 15 each way to meet them. Usually walk 4 days/week with friends and my H and I take at least one long ramble on the weekend. Living in perfect weather helps.

So new CC total: 37:45 (I think - check my math!)

Perfect!

Another 15 min for me, so that makes it 38 hours even!!!

Dogfriend and I walked another 30 minutes.

CC Total: 38 hours and 15 minutes

To answer your question, my walking buddy (dogfriend) and I do walk every day. It’s not a seasonal or even a weather-based thing. I am a believer in continuing through all weather conditions! I try to do a mile and a half at least, not counting commute, etc. I would like to up it to at least 2.

How did I miss this? Regular daily walk of 75 minutes but FitBit reports 105 active minutes for today. Racing around Costco seems to register as active minutes but I will only count the 75 minute exercise walk.

CC Total: 39 hours, I think?

I forgot to record my second 15 minute walk. I do not walk regularly but am trying to get more exercise to go along with my two gym sessions each week so this thread got me moving a little bit. I am thinking of walking to my Weight Watchers’ meeting today.

Total CC time (if above is correct): 39 hrs. 15 min.

You can have my 75 min from yesterday’s hike.

Yes, part of a weekly hiking group.

This was FUN to do and fun to watch the hours grow!

Rounding off to say 40 hours of collective walking!

The average human walking pace is 3.1 miles/hour. So, collectively we walked AT LEAST 124 miles!

Let’s say the average person burns 100 calories an mile walked (this may be a little high but I know some of you are FAST walkers!!!)…
124 miles x 100 calories = 12,400 calories burned
12,400 calories burned divided by 3500 calories (a pound) = 3.5 pounds left on the pavement collectively!

So now, if we can figure out how many Cadbury eggs we can all eat this weekend for Easter…

THANKS ALL!!!

I walk quite a bit because I live in NYC and it’s just part of life. I do have a car which enables me to walk less, but when this challenge appeared, I had recently decided to walk more. Since it’s finally warmer outside, yesterday was the perfect day to start.

My yesterday’s walk got me to my destination faster than the bus ride! When the weather gets better, I will be walking those 2.2 miles.
