For engineering and computer science majors, do people normally carry laptops to classes? If I don’t need to take a laptop to class then I can get a bigger laptop otherwise I would look for a lighter option. Is there a need to take laptops to classes?
I can’t answer specifically about CS/E-School classes, but I can say that even if you don’t use your laptop in class, you will still be carrying it around a lot. A lot of CS and E-School classes have group based projects that you have to meet at a library to do, which requires bringing your laptop with you. Also, you should take your laptop when you go to the library to study (alone or with a group–it can be hard to study in dorms even if you have a single). Essentially, even if you don’t need it for class (though you probably will), you will still need to carry it around a lot.
People practically carry their laptops everywhere, regardless of which school they’re in. I would try to avoid a heavier laptop to begin with since you’ll likely always be carrying it with you to class; and if not class then meetings, the library, etc.
