TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@52AG82 Agreed. It’s a beautiful campus and the business school is amazing. I love that their incoming freshmen get placed in with 18 other students and they stick together. It starts the team building process so early. Plus, their internship program can’t be beat. He’s been accepted to both Walton & Haslam, & both have recently offered $$.

@TxAg99 Same here…6 tabs, tried to apply for housing, won’t let me log in.

@AggieMomhelp @Thelma2 @TxAg99 we had the same error when trying to log in to myhousing portal. Assumed you needed to be admitted before getting access.

I have been watching the great info and discussion here. Thanks to the many great contribs. My first of three has applied to TAMU and still “under review”, she’s top 15%, summa, 4yr Marching Band, honor student, very good SAt and ACT, lots of ECs, applied to BIMS, and already been accepted to a couple other schools, but its looking like TAMU wont be in here future. I am a 1990 TAMU MSME alum and dismayed that so many potential future aggies will never have the opportunity to go there. I know it will be hard for some of use parents to accept this reality maybe more so than our kids. I would offer these thoughts to the folks in the same boat as our family:

  1. your kids have worked hard through HS to get to this point - dont make it sound to your kids like its the end of the world if they dont get into TAMU. There are MANY other great schools that they will get into and will thrive and be just as successful and happy. One of the hardest parts is for us to let them go out on their own. Support them and be their bedrock like you always have. There is no rule anywhere that says you cant still enjoy them and dote on them after they leave HS and your house. You raised them right and now you can watch as they make their own future. I think that is really what we all want for our children.

  2. In case you havent been to TAMU in the last couple of years - it is not the TAMU many of you remembered. BCS is a small city now and from what I am hearing and seeing, it is no longer as much of the tight knit, supportive place that many of us enjoyed and fondly remember. In fact many kids who go there get overwhelmed by the sheer size (largest student body in the US) and feel insignificant as a result. TAMU is not a panacea that we wish it to be. For my other two younger kids who will be going to college in a few years we are going to be seriously looking at other schools including in neighboring states that are eager to have our kids go there. SFA, OSU, OU, UArk, Miss State, Univ Miss, Tulsa, Wichita State, Iowa State, etc.

Best of luck and prayers to all of you and your children on successful futures!

To the 6 tabbers having trouble, when my son changed to 6 tabs we couldn’t use the tabs for NSC or housing until AIS changed. Hope this helps

In collecting our non scientific stats, please help us out by filling in the missing information. Some of you it is just a piece and others, I need the whole shebang. I try to find info from prior posts but sometimes that is too costly on time.

This is REVIEW ADMITS of all majors other then engineering right now. However, if you are engineering major, feel free to go ahead and list your complete stats again and any decision you received and when. Please include if you were admitted to university first and the date and then the date and type of admission decision. Include if you applied Early Decision and were deferred to January.

If you provided your stats earlier or and I have not tagged you, please feel free to do so again. I am working my way back through the pages. If you received an admission decision, please tell me and what date. (I have all the Blinn Team from Feb 14 that reported already). If you are a lurker, please post or PM me.

and PLEASE, I beg you, please, please, please, REPORT BACK YOUR ADMISSION DECISION. As tough as it is to go through this process, in 4 months, it will begin again and your stats can help us guide the next cycle applicants. So, please, I beg you to come back and report your decisions and help fill in the information gaps. YOU are what will help the next group.

If you are OOS, please let me know and from what state.
If you submitted both SAT and ACT, please provide both scores with sub scores
If you were assigned rank, list the Quarter. If your school reported rank, give number X/XXX if known and %.
Please list noteworthy awards, EC’s, Clubs, etc

ALSO - Parents going through this process. PLEASE come back next year to help. @AggieMomhelp @AggieMomAgain @MomHopesNxtGenAg @trinley @pbleigh @chercheur @kaydeeloo @GManmom123 and so many others (I am sorry if I missed anyone) come back to help the current cycle. Please consider this. I will likely only be here through 1 more cycle, possibly 2 but right now, just planning on the last one til my Aggie graduates.

@CMOMof2 When did you apply?

@GManmom123 THANK YOU for your invaluable input on Blinn Team Engineering. I hope you and @AggieMomAgain come back next admission cycle and help guide the next batch of applicants. Your experience is so helpful

I recall @trinley googling the heck out of the acronyms and hoping it meant something.
@GManmom123 keep a watch and report on the change of major tab in AIS.

@Thelma2

In review, still…not looking good. Most likely accepting scholarship money to Texas State Honors program, but waiting to see LSU’s scholarship offer (they said March).

@Thelma2
Date Applied:December 2018(very last minute decision)
Major Applied: Business…he wants to do Supply Chain Management
Rank: Not sure
SAT/ACT with Sub Scores: 1180 SAT…not sure on the sub scores. He has Dysgraphia so he wrote about it on his essay & how the SAT being timed often affects kids with Dysgraphia because their mind goes on overload
EC’s/AP’s, Awards, Clubs: Eagle Scout, Marching Band, Future Business Leaders of America

Thelma2 thanks for collecting these to try to make some sense of this for us. But I dont think these are the only stats that matter wrt admissions offer. Economic, ethnicity, alumni relatives, are all considered in some way we just don’t know how.

I’m reposting my kiddos stats as we are still waiting. I will say, she has classmates that received “team” notifications and was told at school that if she has received nothing yet, to consider it a good sign. I personally just wish they would get the decisions made already. It’s stressful.

When did you apply: 9/13
When did you get your UIN: 9/17
When did you receive your admission decision: waiting
Are you an Auto-admit or Academic Admit or Review Admit: Review

She also is a 4 year varsity letterman, NHS, Spanish NHS, various clubs (including a VP position), community service, and also a lot of babysitting and has worked as a lifguard as well.

I still have not heard anything and am an engineering reveiw applicant. Is today the final day for TEAB offers?

I have been a parent Lurker as you called it. I realized today it was important to put my sons stats. He believed he had a chance getting blinn team. Only due to his SAT. He applied at Phoenix and OU only because we made him knowing TAMU wouks be a reach. Received 58,000 arizona state and 20,000 OU. We took him to OU campus last Friday and was pleasantly suprised. He was shocked that he loved it. We come from a small high school. His 2nd choice might be a better fit (my son wasnt wanting to even consider OU until visit. I recommend anyone do this for their kiddo -make them have options and visits) A relief as a parent because his heart was set on being an Aggie and its not looking like he will go. He won’t do gateway. I have no idea if he would choose blinn team over OU if a slight possibility. Both have perks. Including instate and lower cost but I think he saw some perks of a smaller college. Someone else today mentioned this on the thread. Completely agree.

He had more extracurricular activities I didnt list with honor classes too.

Applied end of Sept.

@Thelma2 my son’s stats as requested:

My daughter will start Walton’s in the fall
As well. Amazing business program with lots of support, great campus life etc…my niece is in the nursing program there and loves it. She’s in review at TAMU and isn’t willing to change her major, accept a Blinn team or fight for classes so she will likely be denied. She has decent stats but will be one of the thousands that won’t get in. It wasn’t her first choice, just wanted a Texas option.
Walton has an open house on March third in Houston if you live in the area.

My son has decided on Texas state honors program as well. When we toured the campus last summer he fell in love with it. He then took the SAT a second time and scored such a high score we decided to throw A&M in the pot. Since Mays is full and he is business major he feels he has more opportunities at State. He hasn’t cared for over a month about acceptance to A&M but of course I’m checking daily just to see if any chance happens and I don’t even know why. ?‍♀️ He said he just wants to know if he gets a flat denial so he won’t root for them in football anymore. Lol!

Good luck to everyone! If anyone knows the ins and out of Texas state and have any pointers feel free to direct message me!
