@AMbound . It has clearly been a very competitive year. I feel your pain.
Animal Science is not my area, but I do see that Animal Science does not participate in PSA. Please correct me, but PTA appears to be transfer from another system school after what appears to be 2 years. I have written here about my son at Galveston for entry engineering classes. I believe that Marine Biology has a large-ish number of students there, and it may be one of their larger majors. Your daughter appears to be a good student. Have you spoken with the folks at TAMUG and TAMU to ask about the chances of transfer in after a year or so? Because there is no PSA into Animal Science, perhaps the odds of transfer are higher than otherwise.
I have an education masters degree from Tarleton, and I know they have Animal Science there. I mention this in case your daughter might be interested in their rural setting. Just a thought. Your daughter will come up with a good plan. Please keep us posted.
I am hoping that TAMU issues a bunch of Gateway admissions really soon. As a TAMU former student, indeed, perhaps the school really has gotten too big and still just cannot keep up with the growth in the state. Be proud of plans that may be quite different. Make your own and different path. Take pride in yourself above all. Never has there been a better prepared generation of students.
My son is still waiting to hear a decision so we are planning out Plan A, B, and Cā¦lol. Do Blinn Team offers only offered for certain majors? And it is the same with PSA offers? He wants to go into nursing and his #1 choice Public Health and #2 choice Psychology. Iāve seen posts of some getting Blinn Team offers with similar stats but different majors. So I am wondering if he should have put down different major choices.
And I read a little bit about the PTA program, how does someone initiate that? Heās already applied and been accepted to Blinn so is considering attending there full time for at least 1 year and transferring into A&M.
thanks for your insight @MomHopesNxtGenAg , I saw that Tarleton offered Animal Science too and itās listed as a PSA school so not sure why Animal Science would not be included in PSA program but maybe Iām missing something. I believe PTA can be from any Texas community college and then you are guaranteed admission after one year so Iām guessing that includes Blinn/Bryan or any other community college of preference. We havenāt given up hope yet but we are starting to move on. We are touring TX State tomorrow which I have been reluctant of but parents on this thread have opened my eyes. I will update with any news.
@AMbound Going right out to tour other campuses seems like an excellent idea to me. Please have a good trip.
@drm309 you can not apply for campus housing, until you are fully admitted.
@AMbound Just a quick follow up. Having looked at the PTA website, I donāt see Animal Science as an option. Your daughter might be able to participate in PSA (if offered) or PTA with a different major, if desired. I think we would all like to see these young people at places where they feel valued, as they so richly deserve⦠http://admissions.tamu.edu/PTA
@ambound the fastest way in my opinion to get into tamu is to transfer if psa isnt available for your major. I would go somewhere and apply to transfer for the following summer after completing 24 hours. Thatās just my opinion.
@AggieMomhelp @Thelma2 my daughter was accepted to blinn team today. Her AIS shows her major as āTEAM.ā She applied to 1. BIMS 2. Biology; where in howdy does it show which major she received? Or will that be declared in AIS later on?
I apologize if this has been answered already. Thank you for all the informative and encouraging advice to all!
I am getting concerned as due to the late time frame in which A&M has been rolling out admission decisions (in relation to every other school she applied to) and not knowing if Blinn or Gateway are still possible for my daughter - I checked some of the A&M system school websites to see what their scholarship deadlines are in the event we donāt get a yes from A&M BSC and we have missed the scholarship deadlines for fall and have missed admissions for a few campuses for fall - a few seem to have rolling but this is a concern as she received scholarships from every school she applied and was accepted months ago to them and yet we wait to hear from A&M and now find out not only might she not be granted admission but she has missed out on the other A&M system school opportunities for any type of scholarship since A&M has taken so long to notify kids who have had their applications submitted months ago⦠@Thelma2 and @AggieMomhelp can you please share some insight into what is still likely to be granted in terms of Blinn Team, Full Admittance, Gateway, PSAā¦and approx numbers leftā¦I wished I had known this process was going to be so agonizing as I would of had her accept Honor college and put room deposits and orientations several months ago at her #2 school. Thanks - hanging on by a thread like many here getting more discouraged by the day. Also, how does the process work if she wants to transfer in the Spring to A&M after taking CC courses locally - can that even happen?
So is it easier to transfer into A&M if you You are attending a community college like blinn, or if you go to an out of state university like ODU.
Well not quite sure what we are doing but daughter wants to go to A&M today even though we are still waiting. Not sure if she is going to try to talk herself out of it or if we are just setting ourselves up for disappointment. Hereās to a long road trip today. Hoping she finds her answers.
For those that keep asking the question on whether or not any Liberal Arts majors have been accepted or offered Blinn TEAM, I applied as a Psychology major and was offered Blinn TEAM on Thursday.
@mrsqster yāall have a safe trip. Look at housing around tamu campus. Even if she goes to Blinn first year and applies for summer or fall admission, sheās going to have a blast. She can study on campus, eat on campus (using your credit card ?) and enjoy whatever she wants. No one cares or knows or worries about where you take your classes. Everybody wants the same thing⦠to get that Aggie gold and then degree!!!
Let us know how it goes.
Hi everyone, I just wanted to come on here and tell yāall I was in the same boat you guys are in let year!! My decisions didnāt come out till March right before spring break so it was a long wait. I got offered PSA and I was really sad, I decided not to accept that offer and rather do the PTA program with A&M. Not all majors participate in the PTA program so you will have to make sure your major participates. Iām an Allied health major. All I did was sign the paper works which requires you to have 30 transferable credits, and there will 3-4 classes you must take. Once you complete the requirements you have to submit an application by the March deadline and then eventually send in your spring grades. Iām currently am taking classes at Blinn right now and Iāve already submitted my application. By the time I get into A&M I will be a sophomore and have 36 hours from a blinn and about 17 more hours from AP classes.
Also Blinn team is a pretty good offer too!! My roommate is currently on Blinn team and she loves it as it helped her tuition cost!!
If anyone also has any questions about the PSA offer, I can help with that too!!!
Good luck to everyone!!
@mrsqster itās funny that we also have a road trip request from our son. Itās hard to imagine the pressure put on these kids to make one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Road trips give you time to think and talk it out without distractions, plus some precious time with the kiddos. Heās struggling to choose between TAMU, Illinois and Miami (Ohio) so wants to take a drive to Ohio. We are about 99% sure heāll choose TAMU but a relatively short road trip is a small price to pay if it helps with the decision. We are in Illinois, but my son attended GeoEx camp and a swim camp at TAMU last year and fell in love with the school. Best of luck and enjoy the ride.
SUPER QUICK QUESTION for anyone that can answer⦠my daughter is waiting as well for A&M decisions, BUT has all intentions of attending Blinn as her backup if no option offered at A&M! Her Daddy is an Aggie ā93 so she LOVES CS!! Question is, we are holding off signing her up for an apartment in CS because if by CHANCE she was offered Gateway, do those students HAVE to live in dorms on campus?? PLEASE HELP US! Sheās dying for us to sign a lease but we donāt want to shoot ourselves in the foot if she is required to be on campus w any offers!!!
@AggieGurl what seems to be left is possibly some more team and then gateway. Psa will follow.
I know the wait is agonizing but it really is only about a week (if any) behind last year. Tamu has always said March so in their eyes they are ahead if schedule. My son last year applied for all the backup schools he wanted and we put down deposit for housing etc. we did not want to wait on his fate and have options taken away from him if he didnāt get in. Sadly who would have thought that this year would be so dang competitive.
Okay so to answer your transfer question. Tamu majors want 24 completed and graded hours to be considered for transfer. Some kids have close to that coming out of HS but would still need the required courses for their degree that they probably couldnāt get with DC and AP. Thus the majority of students who transfer apply in the spring for the summer or fall. I personally would do summer.
As to @Cmringvelski I was told that tamu doesnāt care if youāre coming from cc or university. Whether thatās true or not I donāt know. My daughter transferred from OSU in the spring oh her sophomore year. She did a year there. Applied in August. Went to Blinn in Bryan for the fall and started in the spring. She still graduated a semester early. The reason⦠we followed that degree plan like it was the holy grail. Not a single credit was wasted (and she took 32 credits her junior year (fall spring summer) lol
If you need help with degree plan and whatās important to get out of the way first, let me know. Also⦠your students can take some classes this summer if they are close to completing that 24 credit mark and apply in the fall for spring. Just depends on what ya need.
@amycakes416 fear not. They have to live on campus only during the summer when they are taking their courses. After they make their grades they are no longer considered gateway. Just fish. So they can live wherever they want.
@drm309 thatās exciting and impressive heās so adventurous to move far away with all those options.
To take some stress off, we told our daughter itās only one year. If you decide to change schools major or whatever itās okay. Nothing is permanent. Itās just gaining experience. So a year came and she transferred and changed major twice throughout the process. So yes it feels like they are making huge decisions at this young age, they can pivot and redirect when and if necessary.
