@papimama501 Econ is competitive but not like Mays. To give you some idea, if you are transferring to Econ you need a minimum 3.0 for consideration. For Mays, TAMU does not state what is required on the transfer sheet, only “Highly Competitive”. At the transfer seminar we were told that Mays turns away 4.0 applicants. My son has a friend in Blinn Team Business and I believe he must have a 3.7 after completion of the program (2 years) to get into Mays. My son is doing engineering Academy so his process is a little different. There is a thread specifically for Blinn Team students that may have better answers for your specific situation.
@papimama501 congrats! That’s so exciting. Check to see if Econ participates in guaranteed change of major for team. I don’t recall seeing it the other day but wasn’t necessarily looking for that major. Mays does have guarantee so I guess what you’re asking is if he doesn’t meet the mays requirements would Econ be a viable solution or is it too competitve. I haven’t heard anyone say the Econ fills up or they only allow so many students for transfer/change of major. So I’m going to say no it’s not extremely competitive. As for internal external transfer… what do you mean? Econ is in liberal arts college.
Yes @trinley. Definitely cheaper lol. But I was just trying to clarify that it can be done in one year and most apply for ETAM after that year. Vs team requires 60 credits to qualify for team change or major.
College is so dang expensive so I agree that if you can stay that route, then do it.
Oh yes, they encourage ETAM in the first year. You can even get your major and stay at Blinn for year two. With the Texas STEM Scholarship it paid for 90% of his Blinn tuition and fees. I am basically paying for his TAMU engineering class, housing/meals and sports pass. I saved about 10k this year. Whoop!
@3TXBoys FIVS doesn’t participate in PTA or PSA. He would need to go strait Blinn or any other school and transfer in. This is the transfer course sheet. http://entomology.tamu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/2018-2019_TransferCourseSheet_Plan-FIVS-WEBSITE.pdf
Thank you @AggieMomhelp - Econ does not participate in the guaranteed change of major so I was trying to wrap my mind around the transfer process from Team to majors that aren’t guaranteed. I just didn’t know if know if Team follows the change of major for students internal to tamu or if they follow a different/external process. I hope I’m making sense.
Call tomorrow and talk to a Blinn Transition Academic Advisor. Economics doesn’t seem to be impacted as much for upper level courses as some majors.
The webpage says this :Will I be able to enroll for courses in my future major at A&M?
Students are able to enroll in some courses that apply to all majors. However, there may be limited or no access at A&M to freshman and sophomore-level courses in majors such as Architecture, Business, Engineering, and Health & Kinesiology. (TEAM students are able to take some equivalent courses in these subject areas at Blinn.) There may be increased possibilities of taking courses in these majors at A&M during summer school. If you have questions about making the transition to these majors, talk to a Transition Academic Programs advisor.
Read every link. http://blinnteam.tamu.edu/
The FAQ and Terms and Conditions answers a lot of questions
Guaranteed Transition Successful completion of the TEAM program by a student guarantees a change of curriculum to a degree-granting major at TAMU but does NOT guarantee that student a change of curriculum to a particular college or major.
Intended Major Students admitted into the TEAM program must identify an intended degree program at TAMU prior to registration for their first academic term in TEAM.
as well as early transition.
The Economics Transfer Course sheet is likely the pathway he would follow on Team http://admissions.tamu.edu/admissions-staging/media/Main/pdfs-transfer2018/LA18-Econ-BS.pdf
Googling the major, I found the info minimums for internal transfer https://econ.tamu.edu/change-of-major/

@Thelma2 can’t thank you enough - this is my first child going to college and it’s ohhh sooo different !
Thank you! I was accepted to UT Austin on 12/07/2019. We shall see what happens next.
Thank you! I was accepted to UT Austin on 12/07/2018. It will be interesting to see what happens next!
Hi everyone I know majors don’t matter at this point but out of curiosity has anyone already been admitted to mathematics. My son’s first choice was mays but I heard that was full early October so was checking on his second. Thanks
Has admissions actually turned anyone down yet? Or are all the rejections done at the same time?
@ags9091 denial letters go out last
I had read that at some point they remove the change of major option from your AIS and that may indicate all is said and done. @AggieMomhelp @Thelma2 can you confirm?
Wonder how long the “Application is complete and In Review” last? Wish all good luck! Still awaiting…
For those receiving TEAM offers late last week and unable to log into housing portal, we were able to log in today and apply for housing. Also, for those still considering other offers or options you can apply for housing without accepting admission offer to TAMU.
I called freshman admissions in the morning today and they told me that they still have full admissions, Blinn TEAM, PSA and rejections to hand out. Don’t stress! We will all find out soon!
We just left the admissions office at TAMU…they said they do still have full admit decisions coming out, Blinn, Gateway…so we were told the same thing.
Did they happen to say when? LOL
Good luck everyone!
