@AggieMomhelp would love advice you have on getting in without PSA or PTA. My daughter is planning on Blinn for freshman year with hopes of transferring in ASAP. She is willing to do whatever it takes.
@AggieMomhelp my son is considering the same but some of the comments cause me concernâŠlike a 4.0 not accepted for transfer. Blinn has alway been one of our backup plansâŠhe was accepted last november.
Good Morning and Happy Sunday! I know there is a lot of information on PSA/PTA on here as to the path you can take. Has anyone had a student accept PSA and can they shed any light onto the program? I know some past applicants were offered PSA and went straight to another university oos and transferred after Freshman year. I know there are some that went straight Blinn with no PTA/PSA/Team and transferred in. Are there any students that did go the PSA route and if so can shed light for me? I did the search button and there were 39 pages reference to PSA/PTA but none I could find with a person who went. Mind you, I am not through my first cup of coffee yet, so there is that. I feel like I am alone on here who is happy that my son may get PSA. I say may bc we have the absence of the change of major button (Friday night) but havenât received anything as of yet. Up until then, the waiting since August, all the other decisions going out-things were looking like a denial. He was looking at ASU. When I asked him if he does get PSA if he will take it and he said YES. âIt keeps me in Texas and gets me to A&Mâ. So I feel like maybe I am missing something?
@AggieMomhelp Thanks for sharing this. We have spent some time over the past few days considering all realistic and alternative transfer pathways. Do you know when it comes to âtransfer seasonâ if TAMU have a priority system for considering applications eg. PSA (feeding in from a system school) v PTA v transfer from CC with intended major requirements v transfers from other universities?? When it becomes a numbers game could the guaranteed transfer pathways (PSA & PTA) absorb the majority of available spots or does the major you wish to transfer into now have more bearing? I definitely feel as a result of this yearâs admissions cycle there could be a peak in the number of students considering transferring as their option. Also - if the transfer application deadline is March 1st are you able to include courses you would be still studying that 2nd semester (with final grade outcome unknown til say May/June) or would you have to defer Fall entry until the following Spring ?
@libbyshims We are looking upon PSA positively and as a very viable option IF we receive such an offer
@Scotsfi - what field of study?
@libbyshims Sports Management or Kinesiology
@libbyshims I have had 2 sons go the PSA route and our family has had 2 very positive experiences with it. I posted some on @Thelma2 âs PSA thread and Iâm sure there are other families that have had positive experiences. If you have specific questions, I can share more of our familyâs journies.
@AggieMomhelp Thank you for saying this! Iâve been reading with interest all the posts about the impossibility of transferring inâŠmy nephew did freshman year at UTA and transfered to A&M (Econ Major) and it was smooth and seamless. My best friendâs son just transferred to A&M (PoliSci Major) after one year at a community college here in the Dallas area. These are the two up front and personal examples I have seen myself and am using to prep my HS Sophmore son. His ultimate goal is to be an Aggie and Iâm confident he will graduate college with a ring from A&M, regardless if itâs as a full freshman admit, Blinn Team or transfer applicant after a year elsewhere.
@2xAggieMom- thank you so much! I will send you a PM if that is ok.
@52AG82 I think it may have been your post about the kid with the 4.0 that didnât get accepted as a transfer. I know it took me back a few steps because we are deciding between PTA and straight transfer. Do you know what major it was that he/she couldnât get into? That might be a factor if it was already a competitive major school like Engineering or Mays.

I wish you all the best of luck.
My son got PSA too four years ago. And transfer in with Gpa 3.7 to Engineering later. He finished all math and physics classes and didnât get C on any course. He got responses very quickly after deadline 3/1. I saw kids with 3.6 didnât get reply on end of March. So I think if your kid choose regular transfer, you need maintain very high Gpa.
Consider this year number of applications, I am not confident with other majors too. 3.0 and 3.25 are just minimum and are not competitive at all. I am struggling on PSA or regular transfer too. So I wonder how many numbers left for regular transfer after TEAM and PSA. Is none engineering department a lot easier?
I know so many that have transferred successfully the first time. I know one guy who it took 3 times. He just kept applying. As a transfer, you need 24 graded credits completed and required courses completed. Letâs take engineering/mays/sciences off the table because they will require much more than most majors.
Transfer is all about the major. Youâll list first and second choice. Not all majors will allow you to list them as 2nf. It will say if it does on the transfer sheet. If you donât have the required courses complete or the 24 total complete, you can apply but will most likely deferred for spring grades. Follow the transfer thread on CC. Lots of kids getting this right now. You can also see the stats of those getting in right now.
Will the have an influx of transfers? My speculation is not really. But yes they have to give the guaranteed pathways a spot. But for most majors, this isnât going to affect transfer students.
Help me understand. If you need 24 graded hours complete before you can transfer wouldnât you have to wait until spring of sophomore year to transfer?
@Mommydoodle yes maâam! We are right there with ya! Still wondering about this missing button situation. Guess we all have to wait unti tuesday? ugh!
Stupid questionâŠis Monday a holiday at TAMU? I keep hearing that we wonât know until Tues. Just curious
@AggieDreamin Think itâs more to do with Mon being the first day of the working week for Howdy/AIS being inputed/updated so Tues would be the first opportunity to view/hear - rather than a TAMU campus holiday
@libbyshims You are not alone. We will be ecstatic if she gets any offer to be honest. In writing it looks like a good deal. Seems like you are a shoe in for the following semester or school year. No one seems to want to answer the questionâŠâis it worth itâ. I donât want to wing this one. Lets see what this missing button reveals come next week. We have Spring Break the next week so hope this gets done soon! Prayers for yâall!
@mrsqster if you take 12 credits a semester (4 classes at 3 credits) then you can easily complete spring freshman year. If you come in with any DC classes, they go towards that transfer number. But you canât just have dual credit. You must have credits after graduating HS to be considered a transfer.
