@erkainme my son still has his buttons and is in review. I’ve tried to be hopeful and think it was a good sign, but don’t feel that way anymore. Maybe last means denial? His plan B is Blinn, already applied, sent transcripts, test scores etc. We made a recent trip back to college station to look at off campus housing, just waiting for final word before signing paperwork.

Varsity Sports, NHS, Mu Alpa Theta, same job for 4 years, many volunteer hours with church youth group. 2 good LOR’s and essay. Voted senior class favorite & MVP junior year for baseball team (I think that shows likable guy, good team player and leader). Like everyone else… hard to wrap your head around this process and who gets what. He’s a die hard Aggie and only wants to go to one place.
@AggieMomhelp i believe it will end up being around a 3.8 or a 3.9
@somewhereintexas nothing against Calloway house except it’s much older. I was just trying to be clear on which place since most don’t know there’s one behind it. lol
If you have 3 going, you’ll have to find an apt that’s much older in order to rent just the apt. All of the new places are rent by the room. Can run you anywhere from $500-$900 each room. Ask for specials/discounts. My daughter lived in the cottages and her rent was $589 with furniture. She lived in aspen heights 2bed and 2.5 bath and it was $750. But huge!! 1500 sq feet.
Are these off campus rooms based on a 12 month contract? Thanks.
@2xAggieMom Park West is adding 200 parking spots that will be ready for this Fall. We signed there as I felt it is a more social place which would be better for my DD’s freshman year.
@Sybylla yes most are 12 month which really means 11 months. Move in late August and out by early August. Some will do 10 month lease but they try to make it cheaper for 12 month.
Is summer subletting a thing? Or does the overall cost just compare well enough to dorms as there si no meal plan? (not $$ dorms, just average cost) Thanks!
@aponiventoy Before I would consider accepting PSA via a participating major with the intent that once admitted to A&M hoping to change to a different major, I would definitely talk with that department about the likelihood of that scenario.
When I mentioned that internal transfers were given priority, while they are over external, that isn’t to say that the internal change of major can’t be denied. They are just given consideration first, since they are already A&M students. No CofC/major is guaranteed. Also, it is not just qualifications that can limit transfers into a major but available resources for additional students. So while 10 applicants could be highly qualified, if the department only has resources for 2 applicants, then that is bad luck for the other 8.
The website PSA web page clearly states, “We never recommend using the PSA to be admitted to TAMU with the intention of switching to the major you really want.”
A google search also brought up this page about Change of Curriculum, that a change of curriculum can be made after one completed semester at A&M, so the application for CofC could not be made until after the first semester in residence at A&M. https://student-rules.tamu.edu/rule05/
More interesting, and this may be of interest since the major is Health, is to look at the change of curriculum (Major) web page of the specific major that you want at A&M. The major of Public Health has an Articulation Agreements with several community colleges that might meet your needs more than PSA. https://sph.tamhsc.edu/degrees/bsph/change-major-transfer.html
It behooves everyone considering PSA to talk with their regional advisor and the specific department at A&M if they are planning to go the PSA route under one major and hope to change majors after their first complete semester at A&M. Change of Curriculum/Major is not guaranteed
@hopefulaggie2023 You need to follow the PTA sheet for the education major, not the transfer course sheet if you are interested in going the PTA route. Here is the listing of all PTA participating majors, so find the one that is your exact major. http://admissions.tamu.edu/PTA
You would follow the Transfer Course Sheet if you were going out on your own to any other institution and planning to apply to transfer.
Dual Credit is allowed under PTA, whereas AP is not. I would definitely call and speak with an admissions counselor. You will have to meet with one in order to sign up for the program anyway.
In addition, you might want to look up the actual change of curriculum web page for your specific major as well as the Transfer web page for the major (the actual department web pages). Some of the department web pages have a ton of other info that can help prospective students in making their best choice by having all of the available information. Going to the source is always best and will give you the most complete info for the most knowledge.
@Peanie5619 Yes, in apartments, each person is assigned a room. The rooms are labled A, B, C, D, E depending on the number of rooms in a unit. Students can request a certain room if they like a particular one due to location in the unit, or the closet size, etc. But note, the floor plans online are a guide, not always actual. If students don’t request a specific room in a unit, it will be assigned. What you are assigned is the room you are responsible for come move out until you formally have it switched with the complex and it is on record. If you don’t do this, and tenants switch rooms, you are responsible for all damages levied at the end of the lease term for the room you were assigned, whether your student was in that room or not. It would then be your responsibility to collect the $ from the person who was in your assigned room.
Just as an example, my son had 3 other roommates in a 4x4. On move out (and you as a parent need to harp on them to make a move out appointment if they intend to move out- otherwise you have no recourse to challenge move out damage charges). My son had no charges assessed to his bedroom/bathroom but one roommate did projects in his room and ruined the carpet and walls and was assessed over $300 for the bedroom alone. They also tried to assess a kitchen cleaning charge of $25 per person and we took photos of the before and after, as did the “inspection team” and we were able to show that our photos differed from theirs. There had been a mix up on the apt numbers.
Always take pics on move in and before and after at move out.
@Sybylla
Most places will allow sublet. Each place can have its own rules regarding sublet. Know them before hand. It is up to the renter to find the sub leasee.
Some places may have a contract that the sub leasee becomes the "owner’ of the apartment so the original leasor is not longer the primary to be able to lease the unit/room for the following term while other contracts keep the original leasor as the owner and the sub leasee is just a temp thing.
Ask what utilities are paid and which you are responsible for. Also, parking. In our search, parking charges differed. Some included in rent, some were additional, and even more for covered. Also, are they on a bus route if not walking or biking distance.
Is something supposed to happen when you choose the schools and major and press submit? When my daughter pushes submit it just returns back to selection screen. Shouldn’t she get a confirmation page?
@klopez we didn’t see anything change with our screen either and my daughter pushed submitted several times. then logged in several hours later and did it again. I heard on the PSA thread that there was a glitch in the system but I thought they said it was between Tarleton so not sure as I can’t get anyone to respond to me either regarding this experience.
Thank you @Agmom1 . I sent an email to PSA advisor hoping they’ll be in office next week. I’ll follow up.
Thank you for your reply @SMcC07. My son’s stats similar to yours but switch out the varsity sports for every possible Future Farmers of America (FFA) accomplishment. We thought that might help for a Wildlife Science major at a school with Agriculture in its name, but perhaps not. I would have thought the outright denials would have gone out before the PSAs but again, what do I know! My older son had a great experience at Blinn and was able to transfer into a highly competitive program at TAMU after 2 years. If they put the work in, it is possible! Thanks again.
Please let us know what the PSA advisor says. We sent a request for Tarleton and CC and the same thing happened. Seems like it goes nowhere.
For what it’s worth, our kid selected Commerce and Tarleton for his PSA, picked his major (it’s offered via PSA, so no drama there, thank goodness for him!), and clicked “Submit.” A couple of days later, he received a “PSA Acknowledgement” email from Commerce. His AIS says “You’ve Accepted the Program for System Admission (PSA)!”
He was able to select both?
@AggieDreamin , yes. Until he had the screen with the schools offered, I thought it would be “choose one” but it clearly indicates you may choose more than one. So that was nice–that gives us a month and a half to do some more research.
What kind of changes do you predict will happen with the admissions proceaa next year?
