TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

No still nothing one way or the other. She got accepted to TCU with scholarships so we are going to go look maybe next weekend. Not sure why it is taking so long but it is what it is. I will post one way or the other when it finally happens. Thanks.

@DrMcSwag That is so strange…maybe someone’s fighting hard for her  TCU is a great option!! It’s my #2 for my kids…may be my #1 for my daughter (she’s only 11 now) but wants to be a vet, so we’ll do this Aggie shuffle again in 5 more years

@DrMcSwag My son lost his buttons and was offered PSA over spring break. I broke down and called admissions the Friday prior because I was concerned he slipped through the cracks. She did not look him up or have his name but told me they were still handing out decisions through spring break. It happened quickly, lost buttons one day, PSA the next. You may want to give them a call

Question: my son is going to do a PTA in Fall 2019 at Blinn Bryan, so he can get into TAMU in Fall 2020. How soon should he be looking for a place to live? Any websites where he can look for other prospective roommates like him doing this same PTA? Thanks in advance for guidance

@dad86 Not sure about finding others that are doing PTA but that shouldn’t matter too much. Most places roommate match. You could ask for a fellow blinn student but honestly there are so many here that do both blinn and tamu so it’s not a big deal. Lots of off campus student housing near tamu.

@SMcC07 I called week or so ago and I just get a kid who says all will be out by the end of March.

Thanks!!@AggieMomhelp

I would worry less about how/where she began her undergraduate career and more on her GPA and her DAT (dental admission test) scores. These are what they look at for dental school admission. Also volunteer hours in primarily one consistent area of interest and internships or summer jobs in any area of dentistry for exposure and continued commitment to the field of dentistry. @aponiventoy

@Thelma2 @AggieMomhelp @AggieMomAgain @SMcC07 So my daughter just got blinn team today. Recently got TCU with scholarships. Again 1300 sat ( 670 m 630 r) 10.7 percentile & 4.0 unweighted etc. So now we have to make a decision. A&M was her first choice but she will be pre-med/pre-dent & they don’t like math/science from a community college necessarily so what to do?

Hold up!!! @DrMcSwag She got Team today!? that’s so exciting. I have never seen this before this late. @Thelma2 (keeper of all records, lol) we need to remember this for next year!. There’s always hope this late in the game.

As for your decision… that’s tough. If Med or Dental school is her ultimate goal, you should follow what will position her the best for that application as well as prepare her the best. And let me just say, with those stats, she should have been full admit. 10.7 %… sooo frustrating!

Keep us posted on what y’all decide.

@DrMcSwag: WOW! WOW! WHOOOP!! Your daughter was offered BLINN-TEAM TODAY!!! See, I thought someone was really pulling for her!! YAY!!! I’ve been coming back to the forum to see what happened!! Doing a happy dance for y’all!

My advice is to get on the phone or email to the Blinn-TEAM advisor ASAP and discuss with them about what to do for classes that will best fit her goal major to end up in Med/Dental school. There is a Biology Pathway for Blinn-TEAM, will that work for her? There have to have been a lot of people in her position this year and in previous years. And I would call at least one Dental and Med school admissions office to discuss what their perspective is on classes as an undergrad. And remember, Blinn-TEAM now isn’t the same as Blinn-TEAM more than 10 years ago. And it isn’t straight BlinnCC, (which in itself isn’t the same as it was years ago, nor is it as easy as most CCs).

It would seem to me that taking courses at the Rellis facility from TAMU profs is as good as (or better than) taking the same course at TCU. She will be well prepared for the rigor of Dental school with a degree from TAMU.

Personally, I think that an Aggie degree will prepare her better for any grad school or professional school program anywhere, but that is just my biased opinion.

SO AMAZING THAT SHE WAS OFFERED BLINN-TEAM ON MARCH 19TH!!! But I also agree with AggieMomHelp that she should have been offered a full admit seat. Wish that there were more seats. This year has been mind boggling, I can’t imagine what next year will be …

@DrMcSwag holy cow!! After waiting this long I’m glad it was atleast TEAM. She does have a tough decision ahead, some great options!! Congratulations!

@DrMcSwag HUGE Congrats to your daughter!! I’m not familiar regarding the exact requirements with TEAM, but could she take her math & sciences at TAMU and her liberal arts/core classes as her Blinn classes? I’m sure y’all are researching your options carefully regarding her future plans. All the best to her as she makes this decision!

@DrMcSwag my daughter is at A&M and now a senior graduating this May with a Molecular and Cell Biology degree. Her first roommate was Blinn Team and she lived in the dorm. Her sorority Little was Blinn Team also. At times she said she was jealous of the Blinn Teamers because they were able to go to smaller class sizes and treated just like full acceptances. Her first roommate and sorority Little are Now full time Aggie students at A&M. She said nobody knew that they were on Blinn Team unless they were asked. She still hangs out with these girls and all of them are true Aggies flashing their pretty rings. My 2nd daughter is entering in the fall majoring in Bims. And she is just as excited for her friends that are Blinn Team because they can still be together. My first daughter is an officer for the pre-dent club, and her roommate now is president of the Bims club. The opportunities that A&M has provided are amazing. Including research for 3 years. I honestly had no idea my daughter would have so many opportunities. Blinn Team just means you’re an Aggie! Congrats, and if she needs to ask questions my 1st daughter is pretty helpful.

@DrMcSwag My son is Blinn Team Engineering. The smaller class size has been a blessing. He gets all the rights and privileges of any A&M student. He has decided to go Biomedical Engineering and is interested in medical school. He not only has an Engineering adviser, but he also has an adviser for professional degrees (it’s called something but it’s basically for kids that want to go med/dent. They don’t seem to think his two semesters at Blinn will be a problem for medical school. In fact, we were told A&M has a VERY high percentage of acceptances to medical school due to the rigor of the classes.

Congrats on the acceptance!

@asiankid10 Please take note of the previous two posts!

We are going the Blinn route for first year and wondering if anyone can provide advice on football tickets. Since she cannot get a sports pass I was thinking about getting her a season ticket. If we do that can she sit in the student section or will they limit her to the section of the seat she purchased? Does that make sense?

@AggieDreamin they have attendants that check the tickets at all the ramps of the student section. (I’m not saying that they can’t have friends go to their seat and then come back out with 2 tickets, meet in the bathroom and go back up together to get around it but a season ticket will not work for a seat in the student section.) However, most games allow students with sports passes to buy a guest ticket at half price. They, also, have to show a valid student id in order to use a student ticket for entrance at the initial gate.

@2xAggieMom Thank you! I guess she will just need to make friends with current Aggies and get tickets that way. I was just trying to figure out a way to avoid the situation where she may not have the option. Do they have to show an A&M student id or just a student id?
