NVM–answered my own question.
I cannot imagine paying full freight for Purdue is a real option, so is the real choice just between UH and PSA?
good point @Sybylla :), but yes, Purdue is still an option. A&M is her no 1 choice, Purdue is second. UH is way down in her list (below the private universities), but I keep putting it up as one option for her hehehehe.
Purdue’s OOS cost of attendance is about 41K compared to TX in-state of about 25K, so 16K difference annually
I wish UH was a real contender too. It seems that if anything comes from this year, UH needs to be the next uni given the love. The UHD science building looks like it must be close to finished and Houston is a logical location for many health related fields.
@sybylla and @aponiventoy My son went on an admitted student tour at UH yesterday - he was less than impressed. He tried hard to be open minded (he had already gone on tour last August - he seemed to like it then), but alas, it didn’t work out. Poor weather and tour guide probably didn’t help.
Edited to add which school he toured yesterday - duh.
@JaceyK out of curiosity, what were you son’s challenges with UH?
@bemart14 He wasn’t impressed with the majors since he has firmly decided on biochemistry or BIMS. He originally applied to biology at UH but doesn’t want to do that. I think he was super impressed by TAMU’s research efforts employed by the students. He also was impressed with his sister getting a part-time job in an entomology lab (mosquitoes and their impact on diseases specifically). He hasn’t gotten a good response yet on what UH offers it’s students in terms of research and jobs within labs. And a small thing-he didn’t like the dorms on campus (I recall they were somewhat bland - but I really didn’t think he cared all that much lol). So all in all, it didn’t click like we had hoped. The only thing that clicked with him re: UH was the sports (basketball and football doing well). LOL.
@Sybylla if it’s all up to me, with the choices that she has now, UH will be the runaway winner. I actually find their pre-health program better than A&M
@JaceyK - I have been encouraging my daughter to tour UH (again) while she’s in town for spring break. She has seen UH when her older sister toured 2 years ago and both of them didn’t like it, particularly the community outside of the campus. My older daughter ended up in Fordham RH. I’ll not push anymore as she might blame me for wasting her spring break time for it :).
question to those who have kids that graduated from A&M and started out with PSA : do their transcript show subjects taken the system school as A&M or the system school’s? Thanks
@aponiventoy whether it’s dual credit, community college, 4 year university etc… it will always show up under the name of the insititution. My daughters show Blinn, ok state and tamu. None will factor into tamu gpa tho. None.
thanks @aggieMomhelp. Once she decides to apply to Dental School, do you think it will matter in the professional school admission process/decision?
Realistically you have to be prepared that she never does get to dental school application, the reality of the process is to expect that she changes her major to something much less lucrative career wise, that applies to many pre med pre dental pre prof and engineering kids. Even the ones with great high school resumes. That should have serious weight in your household discussions about college costs. Heck, if she was a 36/4.0 kid cost would be even more relevant due to the price of professional school, The best advice for any pre med type kid is free or as close to free undergrad as possible. You defiantly need to check the pre dental pre reqs are from an acceptable institution. Have you talked with TAMU about that?
@aponiventoy I’m not sure what Sybylla is trying to say. But I will say your daughters college stats will speak for itself. They are not going to care where she started. If she does well, gets involved, shows passion for what she wants to do… she will be fine. If she decides during her time in college that it’s not the right path, then so be it. As long as they find and do what is good for them, be self sufficient and a contributing member to society… we as mommas will be happy. Right? I’m still perplexed by that post tho. Not going to lie.
When my daughter wanted OT school the best advice I got (which may be what Sybylla is saying) is get your undergrad in something you can have a career in. Ie… if you don’t go to professional school after undergrad, you need to be able to get a job.
thanks to both of you @Sybylla and @AggieMomhelp . We do understand that planning of going to professional school is not a sure thing. I’ve always encourage them to do well in their undergrads (I have a pre-med kid too). They know that a 3.6 pre-prof gpa is not a sure thing for prof school admission, but if they end up lower than that it’s not the end of the world (some get accepted to med school with a 3.0 - but rarely hehehehehe). hopefully the promise that i’ll pay both for their pre-professional and the professional program (if they’'ll be able to get in) is good enough motivation for them to go for it
My kid is inserted in PreMed path undergraduate major( Physcology BS). She is offered PSA now. we are sooo stressed out what is the best route now. Start off with UOH and transfer second year to A&M College station. However with all this surprises for this year batch not sure if transfer will be easy like other year, as long as you meet transfer requirement.
Any suggestions or previous experiences or “someone did this” will help.
Thanks!
Please look at this and share input, thank y’all!!!

@treehugger2023 : I replied on that thread. Congrats to you for 2 great opportunities!
@DrMcSwag Have y’all heard anything?
@aponiventoy It’s Spring break so I am not on with kids home from college and unfortunately for us this year, between the three of them in college, two have a different Spring break from the others. It will pick back up after the breaks with everyone going through their student conferences and getting parking housing etc.
