TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

Best of luck, @HopefulCautious. It is always so much better to try and see what happens. @DrMcSwag, wow, it seems so wrong for your daughter to be looking at possible rejection, and maybe it will be something quite different! We are all hoping!

@DrMcSwag Keep the faith. I heard yesterday from a neighbor that their daughter’s friend got Blinn Team (yesterday am).

@HopefulCautious: GOOD FOR YOU!! I am SO glad that you are appealing the PSA decision! I hope it works, keep us posted on the process and outcome. You are in my thoughts and prayers for a successful appeal! You have great scores and are likely to thrive at TAMU. Hopefully, you will receive a FULL ADMIT offer! Make sure that your appeal info is very clearly new info not included on your original application, that you have great documentation and that all of the “T’s are crossed and all of the I’s are dotted”!

This year has been mind-boggling! So many very qualified, high caliber students were offered PSA with scores/ranking that in previous years would have been offered at least Blinn-TEAM. I realize that seats are limited for both full admits and Blinn-TEAM, but perhaps they could come up with some sort of a solution. Blinn-TEAM really varies each year on the total number who accept the offer, perhaps they could make a Blinn-TEAM wait list for those who are offered PSA but would accept Blinn-TEAM if it were offered to them. Since they now have the RELLIS facility, I thought that perhaps they would increase Blinn-TEAM offers this year, but apparently not.

@MomHopesNxtGenAg @Peanie5619 Thanks for the nice words. Just wish they would hurry up very upsetting.

@DrMcSwag : Will y’all appeal the decision if your daughter receives a denial? It seems like it is worth the effort if there is something that could be considered that wasn’t in her original application. Good luck, y’all are in my thoughts and prayers.

@Thelma2 Thank you so much for the apartment information! You’re a wealth of information! So thankful for this website.

@AggieMomAgain I don’t know that we have any new information.

@DrMcSwag Don’t feel bad. I have so many friends who applied into not so competitive majors and had 1460s and were in the 1400s that got PSA. It honestly makes no sense. I’m honestly very disappointed w A&M bc last yr people with 1100s were getting in

@ninamoore19 Yeah I never thought she wouldn’t get full admit to be honest. I was wrong for sure but she is an amazing young lady with extreme discipline and work ethic. She is a very special person and will be fine wherever she lands.

@DrMcSwag : Hopefully she won’t receive a denial. But if she does, it wouldn’t hurt to appeal. Y’all might win, but you won’t if you don’t try.

Is there any medical/family/weather related etc. issue that caused her to be just out of the Top 10% that wasn’t mentioned in her original application? For instance, was she ill for a long time or during a final exam or was a family member ill or was your family impacted by Harvey? Did she change schools? Can you get documentation supporting any of those issues? If there is a shred of hope that there is anything that impacted her class rank, I would go for it since she was SO close to an automatic admission offer.

My daughter HS class of 2017, included just a few sentences in her original application about a serious concussion she received in the 8th grade that continued to impact her health and grades in HS. I think that info may have been one of the factors in her Blinn-TEAM offer since her class rank was low but her SAT was in the average range for TAMU.

Good luck!

@Peanie5619 Many of us have walked in y’all shoes. It is a lot to navigate!
My Aggie just got home last night for Spring Break. The older they get, the more they have to do and the less they get to come home :(( But it’s all good.

Finally heard back, offered PSA.
Major: psychology
OOS
ACT: 27
GPA: 3.857 (uw)
Lots of honors & ap. Stellar extracurriculars.

Even though my dad was a aggie ('92) i have decided to take another route. Glad to have heard back finally. Good luck to everyone in making their decision!

What’s important is that you’ve made a decision and will work to make yourself successful. Good for you! Good luck to you, @iluvbadminton.

@DrMcSwag just a thought, but are you checking the AIS not just Manage Applications in Howdy? My son (lower stats) was offered PSA last week, but still shows “in review” in the Manage Applications tab. Best of luck and your daughter sounds wonderful!

@ParadiseAggie Lol yes. I’ve checked every which way 40 times a day for months. If they were monitoring her account that probably scared them lol.

@AggieMomAgain We were in Harvey but didn’t flood. She’s never made a B so you can’t really point to a time she slumped. Her only error was she elected to take a regular english instead of advanced because she was scared of it for some reason. She didn’t talk to anyone about it she just did it. She made an A and her weighted GPA went up but not as much as 1 or 2 other kids who took advanced english and made an A. Also, couple kids dropped out of school and there you have it
10.7 percent.

@DrMcSwag : Wow. I just don’t know what to say. Straight As, ranked 10.7 %, above average SAT scores. Grasping at straws! What about on the day that she took the SAT? Was she just getting over a cold? Did she have something with her EC the night before and thus didn’t sleep well? With her rank, if her SAT had been just a little higher she would have been an Academic Admit. Think hard, is there ANYTHING that she can put into an appeal?

Even the history behind why she decided to take regular English instead of advanced and what she learned about herself in the process might be something that would appeal to Admissions. Who knows? I don’t really know about the appeal process. There was a girl on CC back in 2017 who was home schooled, received PSA and successfully appealed and received a seat in MAYS, so it can be done. Not sure what the rate of success is, but you can’t win if you don’t try.

Maybe an appeal won’t be necessary. I hope that there is an Admissions officer who is still pulling for her to receive a Full Admit offer. Maybe that is why it is taking longer, somebody really wants her!

Keep us posted!

I would call Admissions to make sure she hasn’t been lost in the shuffle

Hey, Are there any group chats for admitted students. I need to find a roommate. Can anyone DM any gc links. Thanks.

There is a housing section in aggie reddit. Scroll down for more recent postings. There are a lot of sublease listing with an occasional group or individual looking to connect for housing.

Hello everyone, it looks like no one comes to this group anymore :). Thanks to ya’ll for the info and feelings (both happy and the not so happy) you shared. very much appreciated, I had fun.

We are still in the process of deciding where our daughter is going, so many choices :), including some private schools offering a lot of $, however, even with those $, in-state tuition will come out cheaper.

She accepted the PSA offer (chosen Allied Health as major - original major was a pre-professional health (?)) . She clicked on Tarleton, CC, Commerce and West Texas. She got an acceptance e-mail from Commerce already. So her choices now: Purdue, UH or PSA. Any thoughts on these choices? Thanks.
