TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

Mickle, you are a very high stats student, with lots of other application in the air, have you picked up a phone and talked with someone about your denial? Are you actually committed to paying OOS $ to TAMU? If you haven’t kept track of your obligations in the application process, it looks like TAMU is a back up school for a kid like you. That won’t help. When did you submit your appeal? Transcripts were more work for OOS kids without digital upload options, but they were clear enough for all the other OOS kids to do.

@Sybylla submitted my appeal march 15. Just heard back from them this week. Originally submitted my app on december 1

So that is a no then, WRT to having any actual real contact? No phone calls? When did you get your rejection if you filed your appeal on March 15? Why was your TAMU application so late? It just all looks like an also ran, you would have totally been admitted as a full pay OOS applicant if you had followed directions. Again, would you even attend at full pay? If you would, then pick up the phone follow up. If you are having a bit of a time with your acceptances, is there anything you think you have missed as you look at your current acceptances situation?

@MickleTheNickle9

Did you have trouble with your transcript at MIT, Princeton, UMich, Lehigh or Purdue or just A&M?
Unfortunately in your case, an incomplete transcript does not qualify for the conditions of an appeal and thus it was turned down. I understand the frustration, because you did send in the document by the deadline.

Because transcripts can take some weeks before they are processed, your AIS would not have had time to show that there was an issue by Dec 8 deadline for supporting docs. Due to you waiting until the last day to submit, and there being an issue, there was no time to remedy the mistake on behalf of who issued your transcript.

What date were you notified that there was an issue with your transcript? What date did you receive your official initial denial?

A&M does allow for you to open your transcript and upload it yourself in Howdy via the Applicant Tab, in addition to mailing it in.

BEST> TREx (available only to Texas high schools) or upload a copy of transcript at HOWDY via the Applicant tab
OTHER> mail

I have a quick question about the NSC. When we sign up they ask us to dress appropriately to mean the dean of our college but to also keep in mind that we will be moving across a big campus in the middle of Texas summer. My question is what is appropriate for that exactly? Jean? Or something more formal like a sundress?

I recall it was so humid at my son’s NSC that my hair was doing it’s best Lyle Lovett impression. Bring a water bottle. refill stations are everywhere.
I wore capri’s. Shorts are fine too. Just don’t dress like you are going to the beach type of casual. Sundress is fine but bring a light sweater because the AC will be pumping inside. You will be doing a lot of sitting, so nothing that is going to be cutting off circulation anywhere. Dont break in a new, cute pair of shoes here. You will do more walking than you think and blisters suck.

@MickleTheNickel9 I tagged you incorrectly above in post #5923

Does anyone have advice on choosing a meal plan for an on-campus student?

@applicantmom for a boy or girl? If they are big eaters, then go the 2nd one from the bottom (as in not a ton of meals/dining dollars) because you can always add. My son lives at white creek with full kitchen. They NEVER cook… he likes to eat but isn’t a big eater per se. I got him the smallest/cheapest meal plan. Both semesters I added on dining dollars. Dining dollars roll over from Fall to spring semester (but that’s it). Meals do not. They have to use them up each semester. That’s the hardest part for my son. There are places for meal trades like chick fil a, but they get tired of that really quickly. So final answer… go cheap and add on as needed.

@AggieMomhelp girl and living in dorm. Good to know you can add on as you go. Thx!

For all you new Aggie Parents, if you are on FB, search for the closed group Aggie Parents.

It is a closed group of parents only of CStat Aggies, Blinn Team, Blinn Engineering Academy, Gateway, PSA, McAllen, and any A&M Engineering Academy.

It is a great resource for parents of Aggie of all ages, From all things for new Aggie’s and parents, to Ring Day, Graduation and beyond.

All topic posts are free and there are several moderators to make sure it runs smoothly. There is no waiting period to post on any topic.

If you are an engineering parent, also join Moms and Dads of Aggie Engineering students.

@Thelma2, the A&M Parent Facebook group I belong to is not open to PSA parents. Is there another one you may be referring to?

@ATXAggie I will reply here, what I replied on the other thread.
Yes, it is a different one than you belong to. I used to support the group you refer but I can no longer.

When Aggie parents are asked to donate money so one person can moderate it because they don’t want to do it for free anymore and have to pay a $20 fee for some of the most requested things at certain times of the year, the focus isn’t what it was. No Aggie Parent should have to pay a fee, just to find someone to take over their hotel room during a peak time in CStat, when all hotels have very strict cancellation policies 14-21 days from an event. With hotels increasing rates to 2-3X+ their normal rate and requiring a 2 night stay, those parents have to eat that cost if they cannot attend and need to cancel within 2-3 weeks of the date. People looking for roommate, Someone looking to fill a room in a house/apartment, or someone looking for a sub lease, all now cost a fee to post for such.

There was a rule that Aggie Parents had to be members of the page for 6 months before they could offer game tickets they couldn’t use. Parent’s who posted such items before their probation period was up, were muted or banned. That rule has now been repealed since the inception of Pay to Post.

Aggie Parents is for ALL Aggie Parents. For what it is worth, I am a new member myself, since shortly after Pay to Post came into being and un-joined the other. I am for helping all Aggie Parents and not profiting off of it.

Thanks for that information. I’ll check it out.

The Aggie mom and dads page is a great page for information. The admin has developed a page with over 11,000 members and has actively moderated it. The $20 is only if you use that function. The fee is only being implemented because her last Aggie graduated and it takes many hours a week to keep it clean. It makes sense to get paid a little for her huge effort. She could have shut it down or not moderate it . Seems reasonable compromise- it’s worth a look.

Forgot to update all on my TAMU app. Was given PSA offer but appealed on basis of incorrect ranking on transcript etc. and was offered full admission! I accepted the offer and have registered for my NSC in June. I am beyond excited and have taken all steps to becoming an Aggie such as housing, payments, parking pass, student email/ID, NSC, etc. however when I try to apply for my 12th man sports pass it says my student ID number cannot be found…? I was told my ID number is the same as my ‘UIN’. Any thoughts?

@Sydhendershot congrats!!
As far as 12th Man Pass-you have to go to 12th Man site to log in/sign up there first, then back to Howdy. UIN and id Are the same. If you still aren’t able to purchase after going to 12th Man site first, give them a call-that’s what many of us had to do-the system has been glitchy.

@gotoclassdad I agree. And with all due respect, PSA students are not Aggies yet. I’m sure I’ll get flamed for saying that but it’s true.

@ATXAggie No, flaming at all. PSA students are not Aggies yet, but they have signed a contract with A&M, hoping to be one. Perhaps many won’t join. But those who do, might find resources and help from Aggie parents whose kid did matriculate to A&M through PSA or the Aggie parent lives in or near the system school and can provide info/help/resources to PSA parents. If their kids don’t marticulate to A&M, they will likely remove themselves.

@Thelma2 are any of these open to Blinn? I know that are not Aggies yet but fully intend to transfer and info could be helpful for us too. Similar to PSA. But I get it if not.
