TAMU Class of 2023 - Admission Decisions/Discussion

@luckyaggie you need to do your NSC immediately. Take whatever is available, and check back periodically to see if there are any openings at other dates.
I’d say chance of on-campus housing is slim, BUT if you go in w/o a roommate, you might have a shot. Again, pay $75 Housing deposit ASAP, if you want to live on campus.

@luckyaggie @Bass02 @Txblondy congrats!!! Do you remember what day the appeal was sent, as in how long did it take to hear the decision?

@luckyaggie My daughter will be at Sterling Northgate in a 4 bedroom. They each have their own bedroom/closet and bathroom with a shared kitchen, living room and washer/dryer. Rent is great and it’s in a great location. I think they still have room. Just a thought.

@Aggielover534 We sent our appeal in on the 15th (called on the 12th to open the portal) and got notification yesterday. Her appeal was based on a death in the family and recovering from that. It answered a lot of questions about why she wanted her major which her original essay didn’t address.

@luckyaggie @Txblondy If this is an option y’all are considering, TxBlondy, all the girls in that apartment will need to request LuckyAggie as a roommate and she all of the other girls.

LuckyAggie, at this date, you are likely to get temporary housing for a few weeks while they sort out how many rooms are available. They do end up getting everyone into a spot. One thing on the housing application. You are asked to select three dorms of preference. This is only for if they have to place you. They will not place you in a higher priced dorm than you put here. So if you would take a room in Hullabaloo and one come available, but it is not on your list, it won’t be offered to you when they are trying to place you into a dorm.

Also luckyaggie, if you do the housing contract and later chose to live off campus, you must cancel your housing contract before May 1. You will be liable for charges every day after May 1 that you don’t cancel the housing contract.

My son’s appeal took 2 weeks but he applied early in the appeal process. In answer to someone’s question (“Are any appeals getting turned down?”) Yes. My son’s friend applied for an appeal and 4 days later was denied. I felt like DS’s friend had a much better “reason” BUT, the friend’s grades (3.2 GPA) and SAT’s (1100) were a little further away from what A&M is typically admitting. My son’s grades (3.97 GPA/SAT scores (1280) were very close. So, that’s probably the difference? Again, the friend had a solid “good” reason so I was surprised, but when I heard his stats, I figure that must be the difference.

@Thelma2 Thank you for the info! I fully planned to live on-campus and take my chances with a random roommate! I just wanted a modular dorm, so I hope I can be put into one of those.

I went to register for NSC, but the only date available was August 20-21. I have reservations and a family trip planned during that time, so I cannot do that. I put in an appeal (haha) for the NSC date.
I’m trying to apply for housing ASAP

@Aggielover534 I applied for an appeal April 1st, and I got my decision yesterday, April 16th. I got it at 3PM. My status updated at 1230 today to accepted!

For Parents of New Aggie (so, students, tell your parents about this) If you are on FB, there are two Aggie Parent Pages you can join for great information. Also, look for Parent Only major specific FB pages. I know Mays has one as well as Engineering.

The all major Parent only FB pages are:

“Aggie Parents”
which is a closed group for Parents only. Those wishing to join go through a process by the mods to check to see if the request is a real person, has a student at A&M and will contact the person requesting if need be. The group does not come with a long list of rules before being able to post or a waiting period for certain category of posts nor does it charge for certain category of posts. It has about 660 members currently

The second is Aggie Moms and Dads of New or Currant Texas A&M Students. This group is closed for parents only. All posts are moderated before posting. The all those requesting to join will go through a process to make sure they are an Aggie parent, same as above. There are conditions to making posts and you can be banned if you post before your waiting period is up so read the rules. Beginning today, you must pay before being allowed to post certain category of posts. Looking to sublease your students room, looking for a sub lease for your student, looking for roommate your son/daughter’s unit, looking for renters for a unit you personally own, needing to sell game tickets/looking to buy game tickets, looking to transfer non refundable hotel rooms for Games, Parent Weekend, Ring Day, Graduation. Hotels raise their rates during these times 2-3 times the normal rate, and can require 2 day minimum stays and no cancellation 30-45 days prior to event. So, someone who can’t use their booked rooms can transfer them to someone else and then not be charged for the rooms. It has about 11K members currently.

The Closed Parent only Engineering Parent Facebook page is Aggie Moms and Dads of Engineering Students and has 1200 members currently. The Mays Closed parent only page is Aggie Moms/Dads of Mays Business School Parents and has 440 members currently.

Don’t forget to look for the Aggie Mom’s Club Facebook group for your area. Most have one. You can also find your local/nearest one by asking on the parent or major pages.

When registering for a sports pass, the student ID number is the same as our UIN right?

@brichey I tried registering with my UIN ( student ID number) and it wouldn’t recognize it

But yes, your UIN is your student ID for the entire time at TAMU. In fact, when you get your Student ID with your cute little picture on it… BE SURE you do not post it on social media with your ID in sight.

@luckyaggie call the 12th Man ticket office-that’s what we had to do yesterday. My daughter gave them her student id number, they manually entered it, and she had Sports Pass confirmation within a minute. They system has been glitchy.

So…I had to appeal because I sent in an outsated stranscript for my initial transcript requirement. The appeal process took 4 transcripts and $40 away from me. Also, they did not notify me that my transcript was wrong until after the deadline to submit changes to documents. Appeal was denied. I am beyond frustrated right now. What do I do, if there is anything left for me to do for a chance to get in???

@MickleTheNickel9 I am pretty sure the appeals process is final. What cost you $40? I think it is the applicants responsibility to make sure transcripts are current/up to date, and not rely on the university to let you know otherwise-they had over 50k applications this year.
@Thelma2 can give some insight, perhaps?
Very sorry for your frustration; hopefully you’ve got some good back-up schools?

@mickieThenickel9 I get the frustration but have to agree with @52AG82. And did they give you a reason for denial? It could be the updated transcripts weren’t enough to put you in… as in not competitive enough. Now if it gave you top 10 auto admit then I would ask for a meeting, but other than that, please apply as a transfer student!

@AggieMomhelp they told me the reason for the denial was because if they allowed a student who submitted their documents late admission, then that would be unfair to those who sent in everything on time. But the problem I have with this is that I sent in everything on time, the only thing wrong was that my transcript was missing a semester of grades. How am I supposed to know if my transcript is complete if looking at it makes it unofficial? So I sent what I thought was an official transcript to them and only was notified after the deadline to submit supporting documents that my transcript was incomplete. But I do not get how this was considered “submitting late” because as far as I knew at the time, I was submitting everything correctly and on time. That’s why I’m frustrated. Do you think calling admissions would help? Or am I stuck to having to transfer?

@52AG82 ^^^^^

@MickleTheNickel9 who submitted your transcript-you or high school counselor?

@52AG82 I did. But it had to be snail mailed and I could not open it otherwise it would become unofficial

@MickleTheNickel9

I can tell you first hand because this exact issue happened to my son. The transcript he sent in was missing the second semester of his jr year. A mistake made by the counseling office.

I understand your frustration. Several mistakes were made in this situation and they were not discovered until it was not only past the deadline, but months later when decisions were released. All that time, your application was never complete and in review. The paperwork you provided was not sufficient and therefore, it could not be considered. The What you are not wanting to admit, is that you had not been monitoring your Applicant Information System portal (AIS) to make sure that all application requirements were received.

My son sent his transcript by mail on August 1, 2015, when applications opened for Fall 2016. He also ordered his SAT scores from College Board to be sent to the schools where he was applying. He did not finalize and submit his application until mid October. At this time,he checked his Applicant Portal and the Transcript still was showing a red X or not received (I don’t recall the exact look of the portal this many years later) but, it showed there was a problem and he alerted me to it. I had him call admissions to inquire and that is where he learned that the transcript was incomplete. It took ordering another official transcript from the school district, picking it up and submitting it again, as he had to do for all of the schools and then check that they were received. It can take several weeks to process it and he was biting his nails to make sure it arrived. It was Nov 6 before his AIS updated to complete.

This is a tough lesson to learn and know that you are not alone. Many young people don’t think to check the college portals. They take it for granted that it is all in good standing, after all, they sent it all. I have read or heard of several auto admits whose transcripts never arrived and they were denied admission because they never followed up to make sure their application was complete and in review.

Take a gap semester, not taking any college course this fall, do something very productive with your time, and apply for Spring admission. Do know that if you were a review applicant, this year’s cycle was brutal and less were offered full admission as well as Blinn Team spots were first come first served.
