@Gateway2017 Fill me in. Positives? Negatives? Good Experience for your daughter? Looks like it is just 2nd summer session. Is New student orientation in June 2 full days and over night? Daughter has summer job in June. Thank you.
@hein92
Positives
you’re a full time Aggie student after you complete summer courses with the minimum gpa
-you have become familiar with the campus and had dorm life experience before the new flood of freshman along with returning Aggies report for fall semester
(You have a jumpstart)
Negatives
-you lose the end of summer vacation, but it is so worth it
-you have to apply for a change of major and meet prerequisites
Yes NSC is a mandatory 2 day event
Hi there @hein92 ! I was in Gateway 2017 this past year and it was actually the best thing I could have ever imagined. My stats were very similar to your daughter’s and waiting to hear if I got into A&M felt like an eternity. Gateway takes place during summer session II and although it takes up five weeks of summer, it is worth every bit. I came into my freshman year at TAMU with a 3.5 gpa (meaning I made a A and a B in my two classes I had to take) and 6 hours going towards my Aggie ring. Not only did I get these hours but I also got to know my way around campus and get accustomed to the college life. We also had a mandatory study skills class which really helped with learning how to study for college tests and manage school work. I made so many friends and I still see gateway people on campus all the time, which is refreshing. The campus and city is not congested during the summer making it easy to drive and get used to College Station. If I could relive this past summer and my Gateway experience I would go back in a heartbeat. I 100% recommend Gateway because it made my transition much easier into college and I couldn’t be happier! I hoped this helped!
@hein92 I know who you are and that corps turd husband of yours! Congratulations!!! Still waiting but our manage application changed monday to Program : BS-CVEN-GCE. no tabs or any other changes yet.
My son’s changed tonight to GEST and BAC-GEST. I assume this is Gateway with summer 2018 College Station on there. He wants to be a Construction Science major. I read somewhere that it is full. So if he makes the grades do they allow Gateway students into the School of Architecture?
@3boysad , my son is also construction science. I spoke to admissions this week and they said that program wasn’t ful yet but they also told me you don’t apply to the major but the college although architecture I’ve heard is full. Where did you read construction science was full?
I believe it was on this board. Isn’t Construction Science in the College of Architecture?
Under manage application my daughter’s changed to College Station Summer 2018 at about 6:30. It still says application status- under review so I don’t want to get too excited. Major changed to GEST Program: BAC-GEST
Her stats, major and extra curricular are ALMOST IDENTICAL to @hein92 's daughter. If they both attend Gateway they will definitely need to meet. Thanks for the encouraging words on gateway @aggiesrule017. Sounds like it could be really beneficial.
