Hopefully this is the week for us all!!! Good luck everyone!
@Thelma2 OK, 4 McAllen postings, Ag majors requested.
It’s reasonable to expect that there have been or will be some Engineering offers to McAllen based on online information available even when the Engineering Early Action applications window opened up. It will be interesting to see whether this happens this year. McAllen started their Interdisciplinary Engineering 4-year major in Fall 2017.
What is Interdisciplinary Engineering? Is it only offer in McAllen?
Here is a link to McAllen Engineering information:
https://engineering.tamu.edu/academics/engineering-at-mcallen.html
Interdisciplinary means across engineering specialties, basically, not just Mechanical or Aerospace or Industrial or …
Interestingly, very few engineering schools across the country offer anything like interdisciplinary engineering, and some of these are the very best engineering schools, like Harvey Mudd.
Yes, to the best of my knowledge, this major is only offered at McAllen among A&M system schools.
Hello all - we are still waiting to hear if my son is accepted as an econ major so I can definitely relate to how frustrating this process is! Just wanted to let you all know that I personally know of 2 students who went to my son’s high school who received Blinn Team in March of last year (they were HS class of 2017)…so while the process is really frustrating, I don’t know that it’s any worse than last year. And the moral of the story - there is still reason to be hopeful! Good luck to all:)
My son attends a very large high school in Austin. Very few students have received acceptance to A&M. He only knows of a few receiving Blinn Team Engineering. I have a feeling there’s going to be a VERY big blast happening soon.
The first sign that he was being updated was the “Manage Applications”. It changed from Mechanical Engineering CS to Blinn Team (or atleast the acronyms changed). The next day he received 6 tabs and then the next day his AIS was updated. Not sure if this is the norm or not.
Sending positive vibes to everyone on this forum!
Question … please don’t yell at me for asking … as we are patiently waiting to hear from TAMU, is it ethically acceptable to sign up for orientation at other another college? Our back up college has already opened registration for summer orientations and it would be awful to miss out on dates that work and then be denied by TAMU. Just wondering if any of you have done this or if I should keep waiting before reserving a spot for my son. I am looking for honest input because I am struggling with doing it.
@DFWAggie18 There is nothing wrong with doing that at all, so long as when you get an acceptance from TAMU and decide to go that route that you can cancel the one you scheduled at your backup college. I would schedule it at the backup college asap to be safe.
@DFWAggie18 Do what you need to do to ensure a safe landing for your son. Plan your housing and your orientations at other schools. It’s not unethical. Just be sure you’re aware of the deadlines to request housing refunds, if applicable.
Does anyone know if you get the 6 tabs if you are offered PSA or does anyone know how the AIS changes if offered PSA?
You don’t get six tabs with PSA. What happened the last few years is that right before you get the decision, the “change major” button disappears.
@DFWAggie18 I wish I could but no matter how much I nag my parents to secure me elsewhere, they tell me to wait it out until I can weigh my options appropriately and not lose money for no reason. I don’t think it is wrong, it is safe. If you can, I say do it. If you don’t mind me asking, what is the backup school?
@TXMom2018 The only difference I see this year, is the big blast that @GManmom123 speaks of, took place on the 3rd Friday of the month, the past two years. We are off by a week, as of last Friday. There were indeed applicants who received decisions after March 1 the past two years.
In the big releases the past two years, there have been all types of admits.
We have a lot of students in our area that attend Texas A&M. We have only heard of a handful that received early acceptance and then those that received TEAM or Galveston. Usually in years past you saw everyone posting pictures saying they got in. I have not seen that yet. However I have also heard some rejection letters have been received. As far as BLINN I went there before graduating from A&M and it was a shopping center. We drove over to the BLINN in Bryan campus during Aggieland Saturday. I was so pleasantly surprised at how great the campus is.
@TXagghopeful1 Baylor Honors College is his in state back up. He is still waiting to hear from a couple OOS schools, so the wait for TAMU isn’t killing us in that respect. He knows those won’t come out until April 1 … the difference is he KNOWS when they are coming out … not just waiting and waiting and waiting!
I completely understand. I wish I just had a date. I wish him luck in whatever he chooses to do! @DFWAggie18
@GManmom123, I sent you a private message. Please respond when you have a chance.
We are putting a deposit down on our dorms to a couple of places. Yes we will most likely lose 50-100 bucks if we cancel by mid march and all of the 200/300 deposit afterwards…but hedges our bets is the only way to feel safe at this point. I am sure there are people who are doing the same waiting on Tamu/baylor/smu/ut austin.
Can I ask exactly which tabs we should look at? In regard to the six tabs, where will those appear? Thank you.
When you log into Howdy, you will see 3 tabs, either on left side or across the top, depending if your on phone, desktop etc. There are usually 3, home, my applicant, and Howdy. My understanding you will see 3 more, housing and 2 others I don’t know remember what.
