Home, applicant, my record, finance, student life and my howdy!
My friends daughter got Blinn Team today. Don’t know any specifics.
Okay, so I was accepted to blinn team earlier this month and I have been wondering about rush. I know blinn team is allowed to rush but I have heard that some sororities will have already declined you before you walk in the door if you are blinn team. Is this true?
@GoAggie526 First, Congrats on Blinn TEAM! From what I have read there is no predijuce against Blinn TEAM students. Be sure and get your Rush packets started and ask around for Recommendations. Good luck!
@Thelma2 Just wanted to let you know for ur statistics that I accepted the Engineering at Galveston program and will be pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering as an OOS from Hawaii who will transfer ASAP to Cstat (Next Year)
Gig’em! :-bd
@GoAggies526 : I can’t speak for all Sororities but here is what my daughter’s experiences have been. Both are members of the same Sorority.
My oldest daughter was a full admit after review in 2012. She went through recruitment and was selected by her first choice Sorority. Her roommate was Blinn-Team and at that time they were not allowed to go through recruitment.
At some point, students on Blinn-TEAM were allowed to fully go Greek. At first there were issues, but by Fall 2017, last year, it doesn’t seem to matter if you are on Blinn-TEAM.
My youngest daughter is currently a Freshman on Blinn-TEAM. She went through recruitment in Fall 2017 and was selected into the same sorority as her sister, who has now graduated. They are not in the same “family tree” though. But I am not a Greek so it is all new (Greek! ) to me!
Yes, my younger daughter is a legacy, but there are many girls in her class as well as Big Sisters who are/were Blinn-TEAM. Before she arrived in CStat, she was concerned that being on Blinn-TEAM would count against her but she said that no one cares anymore about who is full admit or Blinn-TEAM. It just isn’t an issue. There is a sorority sister who was regular Blinn for a year (last year) and she went through recruitment as a Sophomore TAMU student and was selected for her first choice house.
Perhaps many of the Top 10% admits do not go Greek.
Being in a Sorority has been wonderful for my girls. My oldest daughter met her best friend (and one of her Maids of Honor) during recruitment. They were roommates in the Sorority house as Sophomores and housemates Jr. and Sr. year. There were 6 Sorority sisters who were in my daughter’s wedding and a total of 15 Sorority sisters who attended the wedding! It was a really awesome photo with all of them.
My youngest daughter has made wonderful friends in the Sorority. She already has a roommate lined up for next year and says she already knows who will be her bridesmaids.
I am so happy at both of my girls have made close friends in their sorority. TAMU is a BIG place and being part of a sorority helps you to find a like minded group, a place to belong.
Good luck! Check out the Panhellenic info online. Work on getting your letters of recommendation for as many houses as possible, if not all of them. Have photos taken. Bring a variety of dresses and nice shorts, nice sandals with heels, flat sandals and new white tennis shoes. (I can’t think of the specific brand that my daughter wanted but I can ask her if you are interested). Also, you will need a tote bag to carry your change of shoes, a TINY BATTERY POWERED FAN, travel size deodorant, breath mints and lots of blotting paper!
@AggieMomAgain
This helps sooo much you have no idea!! Thank you so much, I feel alot more confident.
No change today still waiting…thank you for all info today…hoping to have some good news this week:) Wishing you all the best! Some great students and parents on this thread!! praying for all
I went ahead and sent my mid year transcript to TAMU because my GPA and rank improved considerably from my beginning of the year transcript, do you think they will even look at it since it was submitted past the document due date? My high school didn’t have them ready until the middle of february ://
@plmnbgredf No, all documentation had to be in to A&M by January 10.
@GoAggies526 there is no blinn team issue with recruitment. There was the very first year – TAMU suddenly declared BT students full admits & able to rush sororities but sorority national rules had to be amended to allow those with split campus attendance to be admitted to their chapters(chapters are defined by attendance rules- 12 unit minimums). THAT was a big problem but it is now solved – but it did create a bitter feeling as the sororities were told not asked nor consulted as to what had to be done to amend rules. Basically the administration made a command decision (who most likely weren’t greek & had no idea how they operated).
My daughter was very involved with the whole transition portion, her sorority was able to make it work. Some houses had more obstacles. Those who were BT the first few years have transitioned & are now sitting as members of the houses you will go to this fall. They have paved the way for you & it is not a big deal at this point. Reality is that Blinn Team are often more qualified than top 10% once they submit their resumes. Recruitment is a huge event & there will be over a 1000 PNMs (Potential New Members) so lots of girls to meet! Great experience for my daughter too! Best of luck to you!
I will give you one tip – do not schedule fish camp the week before recruitment. My D did that since we’re OOS & lost her voice except for the very low tones (it was hilarious) but it did stress her out. She ended up in her #1 house (my house too) so it worked out but many people lose their voices at Fish camp & are exhausted. Also many sorority girls are counselors at Fish Camp & Impact camp so you will get to meet some of the girls in advance.
No change this morning

@Shayne8 Congratulations!
There is a thread on this forum for Engineering at Galveston that is going fairly strong albeit with a small group so far. Please check it out and contribute if you hear something.
