TAMU Holistic review candidates Class of 2022

@MominPlano

She applied on July 1st. If they can’t decide in 8 1/2 months whether or not she’s in, I’m guessing it’s a no for her.

@exlonghorn96 if you have been lurking on the threads for a while then you should know not all the decisions have been made. The word “holistic” means exactly what it says. A&M takes the time to look at the entire application and essays and ECs make up half of the criteria. Class rank and test scores the other half. Not all high schools are and graduating classes are created the same but the SAT or ACT is. That is why I believe A&M places more wight on those scores.

I would be very reticent to disaparage any kid on this forum that you know nothing about concerning their class rank, test scores etc. We all try to be supportive and share information with each other in a respectful manner. Passing judgment on a student that is 35% in class rank when they may have written phenomenal essays or devoted countless hours in service to others discounts the entire holistic approach that A&M is taking. I for one am very thankful that TAMU looks past the numbers and is taking its time on those essays. Especially since my son is one of 35% students you mentioned.

Agreed Trinley. And not every high school is equal. Over 75% of my son’s HS class takes one or more AP classes. I heard that our margin between top 10% and top 30% is very close. My son took 5-6 AP classes, has a 98.5 numeric gpa and a 3.8 GPA and received a 1310 on the SAT but is only in the top third. I think it’s great TAMU looks at the entire package. There may also be a method in when they release acceptances. We are going to hang in there and appeal if necessary! Good luck everyone!

Exlonghorn - I hear you and agree. Getting flushed this late is brutal. We’re in the same boat. A&M is not as selective as UT or MIT or Ivies that some on this board compare it to in justifying the absurd delay. And I’m an Aggie saying that. The decisions should have been made and announced so people can get on with their lives.

Your daughter will do well wherever she goes with the work ethic you described.

It’s hard to think positive these days. Signed up for orientation at back up school this weekend and my DS is feeling good about attending this college. It’s just so disappointing to know how hard he worked to receive CAP at UT and most likely a denial from my alma mater, TAMU! It’s sad to say if you aren’t in the top 10%, you most likely aren’t getting into TAMU or UT! I wonder how many of these students end up not even accepting the offer our kiddos would LOVE to receive? I have even given up on checking Howdy these days!!!

@DFWAggie18 What if waiting is what TAMU is doing? I’m hoping they’re waiting for some people to reject their offers to open up some spots for students that are qualified and would LOVE to go. I know it sounds like a crazy theory but I’m more than happy waiting if theyre taking the time to see my application.

@Ross2729 I’m hoping for the same thing … that’s why my heart won’t let me give up yet!

@Ross2729 … in fact, I would love to see how similar those of you who are still waiting are! Imagine a giant party of holistic reviews who FINALLY got accepted! You are right … a few more days of waiting!

@DFWAggie18 Same here. I’m not giving up yet either. A lot of the people that I’ve seen apply to TAMU don’t end up going there. All the top 10 at my school applied there and don’t even want to go there. Hopefully TAMU will get some open spots and we’ll see this week.

It’s little consolation, but UT is worse than A&M. They only automatically admit the top 8%, I believe, and more than 80% of their freshman class is automatic admits.

This means that everyone else is fighting for 20 percent of the slots. Yikes.

@DFWAggie18 a party of decisions for the rest of us seems worth it if we have to wait a few more days. Hang in there guys!

@trinley

Oh my gosh I feel bad. The girl I was referencing to was a classmate of my daughter’s at her high school. I absolutely wasn’t calling out anyone on this thread. Simply stating my frustration of one particular girl we know. I was only comparing class rank from our high school. Sorry for the confusion.

There are lots of people still waiting on a decision from TAMU, and among them many fine candidates considered automatic admits at other colleges. I don’t think they’re done with admissions, but I can sure sympathize with you and feel your pain. The wait is excrutiating.

Its actually 7% lol

Next year I believe UT will be 6% auto admit. It’s ridiculous. I personally know a boy at my son’s high school, one if the best in the state, get Capped at UT with a 35 ACT and a 1500 SAT.

I remember an article mentioning they’re going to make the % even more smaller than ever before. Eventually it’ll make it to 4%

Wow, just wow! I know this process isn’t perfect but at least A&M isn’t it making it virtually impossible to get accepted the way UT is. It’s doing everything it can to offer a quality education to Texas students and even out of state students. I’m proud of of my Alma mater and I am sorry so many of you are disillusioned with it. Best of luck to all still waiting for a decision.

@exlonghorn96 I get that you are frustrated but your post is rude. Your kid had the rank and all she had to do was improve her test scores for academic admission if TAMU was the school she wanted guaranteed acceptance into (except engineering of course which is all holistic now). I even looked into tutoring for these tests in the event my son did not score high enough because that is what he was willing to do if necessary. I agree with another comment that weight is given to test scores because that is an even playing field. You are not the only one who applied July 1st that is waiting, and TAMU is not the only school that hasn’t released all admissions yet. It’s not the other students who already got accepted that are to blame for your kid not hearing back yet. What major did she apply for? In the event she isnt offered admission are there alternate routes to get her where she wants to be? For your daughter’s sake stay positive and help her reach her goals instead of blaming everyone else.

@exlonghorn96…it is frustrating for all of us that are still in a holding pattern. My child also was placed in the 2nd quarter of his VERY competitive high school. He is by no stretch LAZY… he is involved in many extra things…I was going to toot his horn but I will hold back… If your child is set to move on, good for her having found her fit. The rest of us wait on pins and needles.

@ ATXAggie My Aggie was NMF, had a 35 on his ACT and great grades at the highest ranked high school in Texas and was rejected by TU, my alma mater. He loves A&M and I now bleed maroon!
