Go with the full ride! Tech has a lot of positive things going on, and a strong job placement process as well!
mamma3g - so glad your daughter is getting excited about the razorbacks. For whatever school our kids end up at, we continually tell our daughter that it will be as good of an experience as she decides to make it.
Full ride for sure. Tech is an amazing school with great school spirit. I know a ton of students that go there and my daughters boyfriend just graduated with Mechanical Eng. degree. Employers were banging on his door!!!
As for razorbacks… my son did get accepted to tamu but we are touring Uark this weekend because we’ve heard so many good things and he got into honors program. He’s not as excited about it as I am, but again, have never heard a student regret going there. Everyone seems to love it.
Just know no matter where your student ends up… it’s not a life sentence… if they love it great, if they don’t, transfer. My daughter got PSA went to Ok state first year but never bought into it. Now she’ll graduate from Tamu in December.
How will we find out if we did in fact get PSA? Is there a letter that is posted in AIS, or a change in Howdy? And, do you have to formally accept or reject the PSA offer, or can you just ignore it?
im so disappointed in this. does anyone know the appeal process
@camrynashley call your or regional advisor about the process. I’m definitely going to appeal just to see what I can get.
i just called freshman admissions and spoke to an old lady and she had no idea what the button disappearing means
If you look back to last year’s thread, the “Change Major” buttons disappearing on Howdy, then AIS, led to AIS reflecting PSA within a few hours. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/texas-m-university/1908913-tamu-class-of-2021-admissions-decisions-p76.html
My GF who got admitted to Blynn has her AIS and Howdy just like ours with the Change Major buttons disappearing. Don’t give up hope yet! There’s a lot of students with really good stats in this thread and I find it hard to believe that all of us would be getting offered PSA, lets have some faith
@MominPlano we didn’t apply to unt or local as that negates the college experience for us. Psa would not offer biology or forensics and if we have to do that, we would do CAP at UT. A little salty at the texas rule especially for those in competitive school districts ( like ours) where everyone is walking around with a 12.0 gpa.
Notification will be on Howdy and AIS. It’ll list the schools that participate in the program.
Maybe the Change of major button disappearing only means that they are making the last few decisions and don’t want people changing their major (could make the process go on even longer if they did a change of major)… I don’t know for sure just trying to have hope because mine are gone too. I was told everything will be out before spring break, so maybe it does not mean anything, only that we will hear soon!
Can I ask why this process takes so long to evolve. One button disappears. Hours later another button disappears. And then you might get a PSA offer. Maybe. Not sure because nobody in Admissions seems to know. This seems like some kind of torture, lol. And, kind of turns me off. Admittedly, I’m not an Aggie and not from Texas originally, but I do love it here. I would love for my son to attend TAMU because I know he would get a great education there. Beyond that, I just don’t quite understand all the hoopla. Are they testing people’s ability to accept the culture at the school? It just seems like this could roll out in a much more efficient manner.
For those who are considering U of Ark or for anyone not aware, I do know that U of Ark has a really good GPA and possibly test score-based OOS tuition waiver program. My two nieces went there, one for graduate school and one is there now doing her BS Nursing. I too have never heard a regret at all from them. My younger niece is also in a sorority there.
I believe that Arkansas is a lot more generous to OOS students than the OK schools. It’s a more manageable size, too, and in a nice part of the country in my opinion.
Here is a link to the U of Arkansas non-resident tuition offset program. They offer a sliding scale depending upon GPA and standardized test scores. Always recommend applying for an honors program wherever you go!
As @trinley has said so well, Texas does lose some good students when they’re lured out to neighboring states.
Both “change major” buttons have been eliminated for us as well. Looking like engineering academy at Brenham for us if the offer is PSA
I am anxiously waiting to see whether A&M offers spaces in McAllen’s new engineering program. Going to McAllen may not be for everyone, for sure, but I am curious to see whether they are going to spin this program up as with Galveston in 2016.
To everyone still waiting, I hope that the news is good. I still think that there are other offers besides PSA that are still on the table.
But if PSA is your offer, if you/your child really want to be an AGGIE, have you considered going to Blinn (straight Blinn CC) and staying in CStat rather than going somewhere else for a year or two and then transferring into TAMU? The PTA program offers a lot of majors. Or perhaps just start working on general core basics instead of focusing on a particular major. A LOT of students change their major even if they start out at TAMU or elsewhere. I would hate for y’all to go to XYZ campus either instate or OOS just because a particular major is offered there and then decide that that major doesn’t really fit your particular set of skills and interests.
There are so many paths that you may not have even considered yet, and at this point, you may “not even know what you don’t know” yet. Keep your options open.
And I don’t know if it is possible for a straight Blinn CC student to take a TAMU class as a part-time student, but if you are in CStat, it would be worth checking on that possibility. Sort of making your own “mini almost Blinn team.” And that would give you the opportunity to experience Aggie life. Auditing a class for no credit was something that was possible back in my college years, not sure if that is possible at TAMU or not. But it is worth exploring if you are in CStat.
If you plan to stay in CStat, live in a place which has mixed TAMU and Blinn students, go to as many games (all sports) and other events on campus that you can. I think cash is accepted at most if not all of the eating places on campus so that is another opportunity to meet up with friends. Wear Aggie shirts and decorate with maroon and white!
Go to the TAMU admissions office and the advisors for your prospective major and start making contacts and show interest and get their advice on how to make the transfer process as quickly as possible.
I know that girls can go through Sorority recruitment as Sophomores, as at least one Sorority sister of my (currently Blinn-TEAM Freshman and Greek) daughter who was straight Blinn last year was accepted into her first choice house this Fall as a Sophomore. Not sure about the requirements for Frats. Make friends with students and probably you will be invited to social events off campus too.
And I realize that financial aid and scholarships are also a huge factor! If you/your child have a large financial award at another school, that would make financial sense to accept it and attend that school. And that school may turn out to be the best fit for you/your child. BUT if you/your child still want to be an Aggie, see about transferring in later and see if it is possible for TAMU to match the financial aid from the other school when you transfer. Keep an eye on which classes will transfer to TAMU if it is even a remote possibility that you might want to transfer later.
Texas is a huge state. There are just so many very well qualified students who want to be Aggies and even though the size of the Freshman class keeps expanding every year, there just isn’t physically enough space for everyone on the TAMU College Station campus.
Just don’t let any offer keep you from your final goal if being an Aggie is what you truly want.
Good luck to all!
Here is another future thought as it is still early…I am not really recommending, but did want to share. My neighbor 2 doors down has a daughter that was bound and determined she was going to UT. (I know, not A&M.) She was offered CAP(?) and was very insulted. She decided to forgoe school for a year and work. (scary, right!) The fall semester had started & she was working and her father suggested she reapply for the Spring. She thought he was crazy, but he reminded her that for whatever reason some of the students who started in the fall would not be back for the Spring semester. She took his advice and is now a full admit at UT. Be careful though…she did not take any classes at a community college, so she was classified as a true freshman versus a transfer. Again, she wasn’t going to be happy any place else, so this worked for her particular situation.
Also, I wonder how a&m handles students that they classified as the top quarter, but that did not make the academic admit test scores, that then decide to reapply for the Spring. In the interim they take no college classes, but they bring their score up to the academic admit requirements…I am assuming you do not have to be in high school to take SAT/ACT, but that may not be correct. Would their quartile be grandfathered & because they now have the test scores they would be academic admits?
