TAMU Holistic review candidates Class of 2022

They didn’t offer me Tarleton through PSA and that’s a real turn down. I’m currently stuck in a hard spot with deciding what to do.

@aggieXdos I have a son who is a sophomore at Tarleton.
I love to go and visit. They have great Parent Association, tailgating before games, very friendly and enthusiastic administration and faculty, great dorm options, loads of school spirit, bonfire at homecoming, and they incorporate many of the A&M traditions.
Her year will fly by!

@AggieHopeful1 what was your major? Our daughter wants Tarleton too.

@AggieHopeful1 She is a psychology major hopeful but I don’t see that in the LA list, but somewhere it said you just take core classes for your major? I’m still a bit lost and not sure we are even offered Tarleton since no list is on AIS? Or maybe I’m just too sleepy for anything to be clear! Your daughter’s major? Congrats to y’all!

I’m confused on the PSA offers. I’m supposed to be a Biology major and a Dance Science/Kinesiology as second major. But on PSA they didn’t offer Biology so I clicked on Dance Science and none of the schools were Tarleton.

I’m with you @AggieHopeful1 This is confusing. I’m planning a call to TAMU tomorrow for some help. Good luck to you!

@Happy2start The McAllen campus is a new admissions decision this year. A thread was started for it but it has not been very active. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/texas-m-university/2058695-texas-a-m-higher-education-center-in-mcallen.html#latest

Here is info about the new programs and the 7 degrees that will be offered through McAllen. https://today.tamu.edu/2018/02/19/degree-offerings-for-texas-am-university-higher-education-center-at-mcallen-formally-approved/

BIMS is one of the majors offered. This link is from the HEC admissions page http://vetmed.tamu.edu/bims

Here is the admissions page http://admissions.tamu.edu/HECM?_ga=2.39512170.838350954.1520473237-412760893.1508865624

I wish I knew more to tell you but I don’t. I had no idea this was an available admissions decision until some folks on here were admitted to McAllen back on Feb. 23. I learn how it all works by what all of you, and past year’s applicants go through and share, as well as what my own applicant back when he applied in 2015 for fall 2016.

@aggieXdos Please share what you learn from A&M regarding PSA. I too, would appreciate knowing more how the process works.

Good morning! Just a question. With so many of us dealing with the PSA decisions, would it make sense to start a clean thread to discuss options and exchange information or would that make things more complicated? :relaxed: To those still waiting, decisions came at random times yesterday so dont lose hope. To those of us with a whole new batch of decisions to consider, please share your insight. Good luck and best wishes!

For those interested in appealing, here is the link to the TAMU page for appeals. Read this over, including the FAQ link, to get an idea of what is considered. https://admissions.tamu.edu/freshman/Appeals

A person who was offered PSA last year, shared with me their appeal process (privately) and gave me permission to share.

  1. Make appointment to meet personally face to face with an admission advisor as soon as possible. We drove to College Station. This may not be feasible for everyone but if it is at all feasible, it is highly recommended.
  2. Nothing "compelling" was presented at this point and the admissions advisor opened the case in the system for the applicant. The advisor also offered advice as to what was weak in the applicant's application. The applicant had good stats, top quarter of graduating class and 29 ACT but lacked in the personal achievement sector. It is important to find out where the weak spot(s) are in an application. Determine the reason for the weak spot(s) and provide the reason and any documentation to back it up.
  3. Applicant offered an explanation for the lack of personal achievement and submitted proof that was not included in the original 3 essays. This applicant's reasons for the deficiency were of a personal nature regarding a joint custody agreement that limited their ability to participate in extra curricular activities and the supporting documents were uploaded through AIS.
  4. Appeal offers a brief explanation of circumstances not addressed in application or essays. Be mindful that there is a word count limit for this explanation. Type it out beforehand and be concise to present your appeal.
  5. Applicant felt it was important to stress they wanted Blinn Team or Gateway as an option in addition to full admission.
  6. Appeal applicants have the ability to upload documentation such as court orders, medical records, bankruptcy filings, death certificate etc... any documentation you have, to back up the appeal. Note that the process states that no material will be accepted that is mailed in or emailed.

If you cannot meet with an admissions advisor in College Station, do call the admissions office and see if you can discuss it by phone as to where the weakness lies in the application and then get after it.

Good luck to all who undertake it and PLEASE report back if you get a change in decision and have anything to add about the process. Post it to the forum if you wish or PM me. I will respect your request to remain anonymous.

@MominPlano I think that would be a great idea.

Good morning y’all! Just checked my AIS a few seconds ago and I got PSA. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this forum. Great group or caring parents and quality admits! Good luck to everyone, love y’all. Will update if I am choosing PSA or not

How many might be considering Blinn and living in CS with hopes of transferring? Just exploring all the possibilities…

My D’s AIS shows PSA now. Her decision is to go to the University of Houston. She has a lot of AP credits and is ready to get her core classes done and dive into a BS in Psych. She is very serious about her career choice at this point. She is confident that her college experience will be defined by what she makes of it , no matter where it is. Also prefers to start on a campus she plans to stay on so she can build friendships and get involved in campus organizations.
Good luck to all and thanks for such great information sharing! It’s just far more difficult to get into TAMU without an auto admit than I ever imagined or believed when others told me. Odds very low. I will be passing this on to other parents.

@Thelma2 regarding appeals, would it be best to set up an appointment with an Regional advisor close to the area or in collge station?

My son received PSA offer last night around 10. He has decided to attend UTSA for his freshman year and see if he would like to transfer to TAMU sophomore year. He has wanted to be a Mechanical Engineer forever and just felt that PSA didn’t offer what he needed for that path. Thank you to everyone here for the support and information to guide us through this. We’re not native Texans so this class rank thing is new to us and that’s really what hurt him. It’s all good, UTSA here we come!

Please check transfer requirements into TAMU engineering itself. Please, please let us know whether your son will obtain transfer credit for TAMU’s freshman engineering courses (ENGR 111, 112).

PSA for my daughter as well. She’s going to go to OU, she was already wearing her OU sweatshirt last night. Texas is losing a great kid, and us a lot of out of state tuition. But, it is what it is. This has been a great forum and I’ve enjoyed commiserating with all of you. I wish all of you the very best!!!

2018decisions. I agree. It’s advertised that A&M has a 67ish % acceptance rate. I think that is absurd. It’s probably closer to 50%. I’ve watched this board since November and cannot believe kids with 25 and above ACT scores aren’t getting full admits. My daughter had a 25 (top 11%) and was admitted a few years back. She had excellent extracurriculars and honors though so that helped. I wish you all well. My son was a review admit this time around, but he’d have gone Blinn Team or PSA to be an aggie. One year goes by quickly, so I’d encourage anyone disappointed with PSA or Team to focus on 4 years down the road instead of one. Best wishes!

@2018decisions - your daughter will go far with her wonderful approach to school!

Like you, we were shocked at how difficult it is to get into TAMU and UT. I am going to wait for the dust to settle and then am going to post some “tips” that hopefully will help others next year.
