TAMU Transfer Fall 2019

Yes thats true. I am so upset on their decision. the second major i have selected is even more competitive and is asking for higher GPA. my first choice is Mechanical engineering and second choice is computer engineering (ElectricalE track). but the adviser said if they deny you then you have a option to appeal for the reconsideration.
My GPA on audit report was 3.77 (0.5 higher than the minimum required) + 2 recommendation letters + Phi Theta Kappa. I think we should just wait and pray.

How many hours do you have @prisam1997? Your stats are really good. I pray you hear good news soon!

Is there a reason for some engineering majors making their majors eligible as second choice majors and some engineering majors do not?

@AggieMomhelp Thanks for your words and I hope so. I have completed 60 credit hours so far. currently enrolled in 13 credit hours at Houston community college. My essay was so so focused on mechanical engineering so it seems hard to get in a computer engineering major (second choice). do you still see any hope for getting in the mechanical engineering major? with your experience

@“letsgetit!” I think the majors with high volume of candidate does not allow second choice major because they have way too less number of seats as compared to the number of applicant.

Dang sorry to hear that guys. I still have not heard back yet. I got my transfer audit in January and been in review for Electrical engineering since then. I have required course work completed with a 3.88 GPA on 58 hrs.

@Donutworry I wish you good luck in your review. I hope you make it to A&M.

@prisam1997 Thanks man!!!

Is 34 hours too less to be admitted to engineering majors? I have a 3.9 gpa

@“letsgetit!” I would not think so. As long as you completed the required course work I think you should be fine.

I apply for transfer to TAMU ( College Station) for the Fall 2019, my major is Computer Science but my application status now is still in review. Are there anyone applying the same major as me already get the admission decision ?

I just received their decision, it says:
Thank you for your application to Texas A&M University. The College of Engineering has reviewed your application for Fall 2019 transfer admission and would like to postpone a decision in order to re-review your file once the spring semester is complete and you have sent in your spring grades.
Please send an official transcript with Spring grades to the Office of Admissions by June 1, 2019 at which time we will reconsider your application for Fall admission. Only those reviewed applicants whom the college determines as competitive are given the opportunity to submit spring grades for a second review. If we do not receive a transcript by June 1, we will assume that you have made plans to enroll elsewhere in the Fall and do not wish to be considered further for admission to Texas A&M.
Reconsideration for the fall term is limited to applicants studying in the U.S.

I know it means what it means but do you guys have any idea if this letter would reduce my chance or increase it? because on second paragraph it says “ Only those reviewed applicants whom the college determines as competitive are given the opportunity to submit spring grades for a second review."

@Reza_PGE What’s your major?

Petroleum engineering for first choice
and Civil as my 2nd choice!

I have a question about “TRNS XXX identifies courses transferred by title with no equivalent course at TAMU”. I’ve taken ARTS 1301 (art appreciation) but tamu doesn’t have an equivalent. Should I take ARTS 1303 (art history survey 1) in the Summer? I need a Creative Arts credit for my core and arts 1301 won’t satisfy that right? Where does that credit go towards your degree anyway?

@gigemsis It depends if you took the course in a Texas public institution, and you are not required to take a specific art course for your degree, then no, do not take another class. I just had to fight TAMU over this and the results were.

“The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has specified that Arts 1301 Art appreciation is deemed a core class and shall satisfy the creative arts credit.”

TAMU just gave me credit for the degree requirement. The only way they can ask you to take another creative arts credit is if it was degree specific, AKA you were taking a degree that required a specific art credit. The Texas Higher Coordinating Board is the governing body over public institutions. My major is Fiance so they couldn’t make me take another art credit, despite what the advisor told me prior to being accepted.

If you want to know for sure if it will cover you, look on your transcript. There should be a “Core Code” that is a 2 digit code that tells other public institutions that the state of Texas has given you credit for that degree requirement. for more info just google CORE COMPLETE. My junior college went to bat for me when A&M tried to make me take another art class and when they emailed the college the approval from the THECB, TAMU gave up and gave me credit.

@wonderlust1 Oh my goodness what a scam! Imagine all of the students who paid for another class when they didn’t need to! I did attend a Texas public institution but my major is Education so I’m not required to take a specific art course. I looked at my transcript and found “50 Creative Arts C1”, is that it? What steps should I take to resolve this with tamu so they give me the credit? I feel like this shouldn’t be an issue… ugh!

@gigemsis Yes the “50” is a code from Austin stating that this class satisfies the creative arts credit. I transferred “Core Complete” so this is how I won.
The law states as follows…

Texas Education Code (legislative statutes):
Core Curriculum requirements:

Sec. 61.822. TRANSFER OF CREDITS; CORE CURRICULUM.

(If you transfer “Core Complete”)
(c) If a student successfully completes the 42-hour core curriculum at an institution of higher education, that block of courses may be transferred to any other institution of higher education and must be substituted for the receiving institution’s core curriculum. A student shall receive academic credit for each of the courses transferred and may not be required to take additional core curriculum courses at the receiving institution unless the board has approved a larger core curriculum at the institution.

(If you are transferring with only some core classes done, but not the full 42 hours.)
(d) A student who transfers from one institution of higher education to another without completing the core curriculum of the sending institution shall receive academic credit from the receiving institution for each of the courses that the student has successfully completed in the core curriculum of the sending institution. Following receipt of credit for these courses, the student may be required to satisfy further course requirements in the core curriculum of the receiving institution.
