Tasp 2007

Wow. Today I got the official factota letter for Cornell and I’m completely in love with it. :)

Concentration: Visual Art. However, I want to learn Portuguese, probably French after that, and dabble in lots of lovely things. ^_^

lol, same thing here… “Hmm…reads bits of brochure Best time of my life? This sounds weird. All the quotes are about how life-changing this was. This sounds like a Viagra ad or something…Blah…keeps reading But…these topics are kinda cool and…they’re…FREE? OMAGAH! MOMMYYYYYYYYY!”

Er, Roam, I think she means she’s going to app this fall. ;P

P.S. - I want a real brochure. The real one is different from the one online. >_>

hahahahahaha. “viagra ad of summer programs.”

i have a brown brochure! heheheheh. i go it from the information session last summer when we drove through providence on the way to new port. they didn’t send you a brochure, aida, and you’re going there? brown’s silly.

oh, i thought she was going in the fall. (public profile >> “going to brown”)

aaannnyways. i got my factota letter too! our factota are so cute. and they didn’t mention exclusive relationships at all. i wonder if we’ll get the planned parenthood lady that confused mindy with her pack of condoms after the ‘no sex’ talk.

I hate how I live in California. I get mail the day after (or two days after, because mail is not delivered on Sunday!) everybody else gets it.

It’s quite tragic. And unfair. I am so tired, that I am going to go to sleep now, and it’s only nine :open_mouth: But perhaps I shall read for an hour or so…I borrowed Crime and Punishment from the library :D

Elexis: Jettenbach is a little farming town founded in 1378. Rh-Pfalz, DE, stands for Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland, which you would know as the Rhineland-Palatinate region of Germany.
Everyone notice how I took my time and saved the Germany part for the very end? It was fun. I get way too big of a kick out of that-- I worry I’m going to go back to the States and seem all pretentious about my time in Europe.
Did people who got their factota letters already turn in their medical forms and the like, or does it arrive regardless? Because I won’t be able to send mine until tomorrow, and it might take two weeks to get there.

Tako: I didnt get my medical forms until friday :-/

I got the letter from the factota and I still haven’t sent my medical forms yet.

Is getting into TASP just as hard as getting into selective colleges? How competitive is the admissions process in comparison to other summer programs and college admissions?

This year they had over 870 applicants, and accepted 86.

So slightly less than a 10 percent acceptance rate.

The thing about TASP is though, unlike colleges they don’t really care about your GPA/ECs/teacher recs. I’m sure those come into consideration (say, 10%), but the other 90 % is ALL your essays for the first round.

After they’ve read all 870x6 essays, they then choose around 180 people to give interviews (supposedly more intense/difficult than college interviews, although mine was quite laidback, though it did bring up many thought provoking questions).

For their final decision, they basically take your essays and interviews into account when choosing the final 86 people. I think 10 people are placed on a waiting list, 5 girls and 5 guys.

So as hard as getting into selective colleges? By the acceptance rate, yes. But it can’t really compare since they have quite different factors when considering who to accept. In terms of other summer programs, it’s one of the more selective ones out there, for humanities it’s pretty much THE program (though there are still quite a few great programs out there).

I love talking about TASP :)

heh heh heh tako… i can SO see you rampaging next year’s TASP thread.

You better be there too, roam ;)

We’re going to show those future TASPers (including Corey, of course) that UMich pwned all the other ones, basically. I mean, it already does.

But dude, do you realize how much of an impact getting TASP has on our (or perhaps just my) life/lives?

Not only do we get the best summer of our lives, but we:

 1. Could potentially become an interviewer for the REST OF OUR LIVES :open_mouth:
 2. Could join their house branches :open_mouth:
 3. Could become essay readers :open_mouth:
 4. Could become factota :open_mouth:
 5. Could become the next Ellen Baer :O

Like…it’s not only one summer, TASP could essentially factor into our entire lives.

Scary!

Crazy Jenny :-P

I’m so going to be a TASPlicant but I dont think I can do the whole CC thing again…

What!

The whole CC thing is like, half the fun! I wouldn’t be half as excited about TASP had I not found this thread. And went on a posting spree. And honestly, this thread takes up 766 posts of my life!

I wonder if next year’s applicants are going to be as crazy as us.

And guys, what happened to 500 pages! I think we should at least make that goal, if any…

Why did everybody just die after TASP acceptances came out? Goodness gracious!

I know.

But next year it loses its novelty for me, because this year I just BSed everything, I knew jack about tasp this entire process but I just got everybody to believe that I knew what I was talking about (that said I was just using common logic and in the scheme of things I was giving people good advice and helpful comments, I just knew no specifics, but now I do. Maybe to much I could gossip about 2006 for hours :-P)
Also I really don’t want to know everyone in my group, thats why im so glad there are no TASSers on this. Thats my fear with TASP, you guys know everyone. So I guess if sort of selfish, as I use you guys as my Telluride fix before the summer.

But maybe next year being semi-omniscient in the ways of TA will make it even more fun, after all there was no TASSer gone TASPlicant this year, new role… I guess yes

Wow Jenny I’m mad at you now, you totally just guilt tripped me into being on CC next year.

Hey, hey, don’t gossip about us, Corey! :P

I want to be the next Ellen Baer. LMAO. Jk, but that would be really amusing.

Hey everyone!

I’m completely new to this forum, but I would just like to say hi to all of you wonderful TASPers out there! Is anyone here going to the Cornell II program '07?

hi amy! there’s a cornell TASP facebook group with all the cornell I and cornell I and cornell II kids. daenerys and lankykenny and cuddlysheep and a couple of others are going to cornell II, so you’ll be in good company!

also, corey, what a whore. using us as your telluride fix. i see how it is. i’m not going out to eat ice cream with you anymore. [shuns]

IM SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!

Jenny, it turns out i’m an idiot. The email address I signed up with is my main one (gmail) but i had a filter that automatically archived everything that said “college”. =/ go figure. i had everything right all along

I’m planning to apply ED in November. But I say that I’m going because I am going. Even If they don’t accept me I’m moving there so I can harass the admissions board into accepting me. I don’t care what anyone says. I am going to Brown.

I got my factota packet today. I’m screaming. Can you hear me screaming. No, really. I’m bouncing off the walls. I’m throwing things. I’m glowing like a giant sun in my livingroom. This is wonderful. (Am I crazy? Probably, huh…Oh well, there are worse things…)
