Tasp 2007

Thank you Karen <33 I’ll find a way to pay you back, promise! Yayy I get an orange sweatshirt  Do you collect anything? Souvenirs? I can get you something from San Francisco, hehe. A magnet! A pin! A jacket! A tshirt! And does anybody else want anything from California? Roam, uber, assorted? I’m feeling quite generous right now :D

And I’m on a total reading frenzy right now because I need to finish my library books before I leave! I’m in the middle of “How to Read Literature Like a Professor” and I still have to read “Reading like a Writer” anddd if I have time (which I highly doubt) I still have “Crime and Punishment” and “The Grapes of Wrath.” I’m probably only going to finish the first :(

Where does your brother go to school, Karen?

Wait omg the sweatshirt is FORTY FIVE DOLLARS??? :O

Hmmm. I need to look over Princeton gear again. I don’t know if I can afford forty five dollars.

Would I fit into a Men’s Small? Probably

I never realized how expensive university gear is! Goodness gracious. Twenty four dollars for a long sleeve shirt. Okay, Karen, can you get me the first one  if possible. Or the second one. They’re both Men’s (the women’s long sleeve shirt is ugly!) Or if you can’t get either, any orange tshirt will do (Men’s small! Yay for boy clothes!)…I’m lacking long sleeve shirts though, so those are definitely preferable! Yay! :)

<33 I am happy now.

I’m glad you found one you like, tako.

But yeah, university gear is VERY expensive. But hey, it’s cool to show-off once you’re accepted. …Although this doesn’t really apply to you. :P

Speaking of which, I always found it kind of… sad? I suppose… that people would still wear Stanford shirts or Harvard shirts even after they’re rejected. I’m pretty sure I would just burn all of them (j/k… but still). I’m probably not going to buy any college gear until I decide to attend that college.

Well I’m (probably) not going to apply to Princeton, so no worries. I have a McGill sweatshirt, vest, and tshirt, but that’s only because my sister goes there. I’m probably also going to get some WashU gear  as she goes off to med school.

But yeah, there’s no way I would buy gear BEFORE I apply. Except I’ll probably get some UMich gear. Haha. And if we manage to visit UChicago…well maybe not, because I might get rejected and then I’d never get to wear it :(

My bro went to UCLA but now he works in Hollywood.

I own too much college stuff. Especially from Columbia. I probably gave them more business than any other prospie during 2006. I just love that blue they have! I’ll get you that shirt if they have it. np If you really want the sweater I can just get you that. You don’t have to pay me back.

I would still wear the clothes after getting rejected. After all, that was good money spent. Contrary to popular belief I’m not that wasteful.

Are you leaving tomorrow? Are you all still gonna be online? Are you going to post in here after TASP? I don’t know what I’ll do without you guys for 6 weeks. And I do think we should continue this thread after TASP…maybe I’m just being clingy though. I’m not a big fan of change. Speaking of change graduation was yesterday. It’s so weird, we’re seniors now! I never actually thought this year would come and now that it has I wish it never did. ='(

Aww Karen! Yeah… we’re seniors now! I’m actually A LOT more excited about going away from high school than you are, but the fact that I’m almost going to be an “adult” soon (i.e. getting married, having kids). It’s just… too much sometimes. Not that I’m scared of it necessarily, but it seems to just have come on so fast, lol.

Well, I’m looking forward to next school year regardless. It’s almost COLLEGE!!!

Well I like the sweatshirt but forty five dollars is a tad too much (stupid Asian stinginess). And I’d feel bad not paying you back. I mean, you’re already coming all the way to visit us. So long sleeve shirt is fine  Eee we’ll have a Karen day!

And uh yeah, I’m still going to post in here. And if I never get the chance to go online, well, I’ll send you emails  and keep you updated on all the drama. And dude Karen, we’re going to meet again when I come over to New York for our journalism convention in the spring  Eeee  and maybe we’ll go to the same college and yay!

And I hate being seniors. Makes me feel old. College grossness. :frowning: I want to go back to being a freshman again.

I’m so excited right now! Just about everything.

And Mintie, I know what you mean. I’m completely looking forward to college, it’s just different for me. We have 30 kids in my graduating class so we’re all so close. I consider them to be my real family. Saying goodbye to them is going to be so hard. I just don’t really want graduation for us to come.

lol, Karen, it would definitely be more difficult for you to leave your school than me. We have like maybe 600 people graduating from my class and I moved during high school so I’m not particularly close with a lot of people from my school. I still don’t know maybe half the people in my graduating class.

And are any of your friends applying to the same colleges as you? If they are, it’s not really “goodbye”. ;)

No. we actually have this meeting (well, me and one of my best friends are planning it i think) where the top 10 in the class discuss where we’re applying so no two people apply to the same place unless one person is ED/EA and the other is RD. the top schools don’t really pick more than one person from our school (like this year 3 people applied to MIT but only 1 got in) so it increases everyones chances.

Awww your class sounds so sweet, Karen :)

^ lol

Yeah… our class doesn’t do that at all. We all sort of just apply wherever and see where we get into. Our school’s really not all that prominent so I kind of doubt doing the whole picking colleges thing would help, lol.

And your class does sound very sweet Karen! I’m glad you guys are so cooperative. But what would happen if 2+ have the same dream school?

that happened last year (w/ the class of 07) with the MIT thing. They all applied and only the hispanic got in (care to guess why?). The other two are still going to great places though, one to Princeton the other to where else but UMich. And yeah, my school is not very competitive. Our counselor doesn’t release our rankings (we only have them because it’s state law) so none of us care about who has the higher GPA. Everyone helps eachother (whether by tutoring or giving out their homework in the morning for people to copy :P)

It’s kinda nice in my school though because it seems every year people get into better and better schools. This year was only the (I believe) 4th graduating class so our school is still making its reputation but I guess it is getting better. The acceptance rate is apparently 20% and a lot of people are going to great places/doing great things over the summer.

That’s interesting. I didn’t know your school was new!

And gosh, your school’s very cool for producing such amazing people. We only had maybe 2 acceptances to Ivy League caliber schools for this year’s graduating class, but according to my friend, this year’s senior class is “stupid”, so who knows? lol

I’m pretty sure we’ll do better next year though. Gosh, the people I’m competing with! ;)

haha don’t worry about me. I’ve got pretty bad SAT scores and the fact that I don’t really try in school makes my gpa suck too. It hit me a few days ago that all this actually mattered. =/ Well I can’t do anything about it now! Plus, you have TASP. I think you’ll be fine. All of you will.

Thanks Karen! :)

lol, pssssssssh SATs and GPAs… they’re seriously annoying, though I suppose they’re necessary. :frowning: Oh well, another year and we’re at least done with the SAT. But then again there’s MCAT, LSAT, GRE, etc. Blah. ;)

And I’ve no doubt you’ll go to a great college. Where are you applying to? Have you finalized your list yet?

I think the class of 2008 is supposed to be the “peak” of the boomer baby years, so apparently college is supposed to be easier to get into after us. Lucky us, eh? We get the hardest year in college admissions! :D

And my school’s pretty competitive. I’d say around 20-25 are going to Ivy League caliber schools, while 120-140 are going to Cal, UCLA, or UCSD this year out of a class of 650ish.

wow tako your school does seem competitive.

I thought I finalized my list until I looked at my sat scores yesterday and saw I beat my goal for math. Now my dad is making me apply to columbia engineering school so i’ve completely revamped my list. I was originally gonna apply there ED because I was (and still am) in love with it. But then reality hit me that I had no chance whatsoever. So for a while I had a certain list but now that he’s making me apply there, I might as well just apply ED (even though my CR is low enough to get me rejected). I hope that being a girl will help considering their male:female ratio is 7:3. Other than that I just have a bunch of LAC’s on there like Wellesley, Colby, Hamilton, Smith, and Colgate. What are your lists?

^ NICE… (to tako’s post)

And yeah, it SUCKS if we’re the hardest class to get into college… that’s just not cool. I hope it’s not too bad, though seeing people for class of '08 in my school and my old school… ARGH. ;)

I guess we’ll just have to do better. :P
