TASP 2019

@rjscholar I’m number 139 on the application, so more than 139 finalists? Not sure of the exact number. I think the acceptance rate for finalists is about 35%, but I could be wrong.

What does the finalist email look like? just curious lol

can any finalists tell me where to find the “supplementary materials” application? i can’t find it; the only thing different i see in my application is that it’s now labeled “selected for interview”

@Anonymousia
Dear [First name] [Last name],
I am pleased to tell you that you have been chosen as a finalist for the 2019 Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP). Your application impressed us with its serious thought and engagement in social issues.

The next step in the application process is an interview, which will occur between mid-March and mid-April. Within a month, a representative of Telluride Association will contact you to arrange a time and place for the interview. In the meantime, we ask that you do the following four things:

Request that a teacher or guidance counselor complete the recommendation form for you.

Request that a transcript from your school to be mailed to our Ithaca Office by April 1, 2019.

Send us a paper you have written for class, preferably with teacher’s comments attached.

Update your seminar preferences. (There has been a change in the Cornell seminars.)

When you log into your Apply account, you will see a new “Supplementary Materials” application for completing these tasks.

A final decision, based on the interview report, your essays, recommendation form, transcript, and paper, will be made by the Telluride Association in late April. Letters with results will be mailed shortly thereafter.

Much of the interview will be based on your written application; the interviewers will use the application to identify issues that concern you and will discuss these issues with you during the interview. You are encouraged to review your application prior to your interview. The interview will take approximately 45 minutes.

Please note that because of this program’s residential component, it is not possible for a participant to hold a job, attend summer classes, or pursue outside projects during the six-week program. If you anticipate this might be a problem, please contact us immediately.

We want the brightest minds at TASP and we won’t let finances be a barrier for you. In the event that you are accepted to TASP, we strongly encourage you to apply for travel and work replacement subsidies if attending TASP would cause you or your family any financial hardship. The subsidy forms will be mailed out with acceptance letters in May.

If you or your parents have any questions about the selection process or the program, please do not hesitate to call the Telluride Association Office at (607) 273-5011. Also, please alert us immediately if you anticipate a change of phone number or address in the next few months.

We are very excited about the TASP programs at Cornell University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Michigan this summer, and we hope you will be a part of making the programs a success.

Sincerely,

Michael Thornton

Chair, Summer Program Applications and Recruitment Committee

@cherryglazerrr yea, id be willing to pay a moderate amount, please lmk!

hey!! i got in as an international finalist… does anyone know how interviews work for us? how interviews work in general…;; lol… what do they ask … gahhhh im so nervous

@parousia if you go into the apply part of survey monkey, it should be listed under TASS and TASP applications!

@alrob29 im number 155 … i think there probs more

also the cornell I… does anyone know whats going on with that?

@cryingrat12313 thanks so much, that worked for me!

Rejected from Wisconsin ugh I was so excited about this program

Accepted from FL! I’m number 171 on the application page, but I’m fairly certain that also includes TASS applicants, so it shouldn’t be indicative of the total number of TASPplicants (of which there are hopefully 120? X_X).

finalist!

@afewxtoomany oh yeah, you’re probably right. I was getting worried about 170 finalists… but 120 makes more sense

50% acceptance rate for finalists! Good luck to everyone and congrats on being selected as a finalist!

sorry how are you getting that 50%? also, can you shed any light on the interview process? thanks

is it bad that i’m literally waiting for them to call for interview to see if i got in or not  in Kentucky, when do you guys think physical copies of the letters will be out?
congrats to all finalists and good luck to everybody else, you are all so thoughtful and intelligent and will undoubtedly be successful in the future.

Hey Y’all. I started this thread, and I’m so shocked to see how many replies it ended up getting! I got selected as a finalist too!! Woo-hoo!

that’s amazing my guys! I’m also an international finalist wooo

for the writing sample, do we just send in an excerpt of a paper? because all of my papers are over 750 words
and what from the essay should we excerpt from? 1-2 body paragraphs?

also would it be ok to submit a short ap lit in-class essay? it’s not my best work bc it’s in-class and was written in 40 min but it’s my main english class or should i submit an essay i wrote for a 3 week intensive class that my school does

lolll I’m so confused with the word limit too @bluediary I’ll email them and ask if an excerpt is ok.

about when do you guys expect to be contacted for an interview?
