you mean they only saw your 1st semester junior grades? nothing else? What were your grades like? Did you get in?

I have a 92.5 average as of mid-Junior year. My PSAT was 2250.

Honestly, I’m pretty sure grades don’t matter, at all. You need above a certain PSAT score to get an application, and maybe if you apply of your own initiative they consider your grades and scores, but it really really seemed like they honestly just cared about your essays and interview.

By the way, U Michigan people: Has anyone emailed their factotum with their travel plans yet, and if so, did you get a response? I don’t know if we’re supposed to get one or not…

I emailed UT factota… didn’t get a response yet either.

4.52ish (2nd? My school as a f-ed up way to calculate GPA)
232 PSAT

to all those '08ers posting on here w/ questions:

i don’t think your transcript matters as much as you might think. My theory is that TASP wants your transcript because:

1) They want to make sure you are who you say you are. Same thing with the picture. My interviewer had my picture and a copy of my app when i showed up for my interview. I mean, maybe they just wanted to see if i was funny-looking or not. But it’s more likely that some sort of verification was needed for the interview. The transcript serves the same function: They want proof from your HS that you attend there, are in the correct grade, etc. It’s a way for your HS to vouch for you.

2) And maybe they’d think twice if you were failing every class or had major suspensions or something. In my school, major disciplinary stuff goes on your transcript along with your grades. It’s likely that TASP would think twice about choosing you if your record screamed ‘problem child’. But otherwise, i’d say your academics aren’t really a deciding factor. You can definitely have C’s on your transcript and they won’t care. Trust me. Don’t try to ‘explain’ bad grades in your essay either. Write about something interesting instead.

^ yeah, i agree.

but i just want to say: SAT’s are OVER! WOOOOOO!!!

Hey, does anyone know if there are going to be phone jacks in the rooms? From the factota letter, it sounds like there aren’t.

Hi everyone! I stumbled across this delicious page when googling tasp st louis, which I will be attending this summer! Yay! First choice and everything. My excitement is quickly growing as I read all of these comments. I’m excited to meet those of you who will be going to the Wash U TASP.

Quick questions for anyone who would know:
What’s the bathroom situation at Wash U? I’m not too familiar with dorm living…communal showers? I don’t know what to expect. I mean, should I bring a bathrobe or something?
Is it horribly inconvenient to not have your own computer? Are the university computers easily accessible?
How formal is a formal outfit? Full-fledged business suit, or will a skirt and nice shirt do fine?

This summer will be amazing. I still can’t believe I’m actually going!

Yayy! hey bre… and go WashU! that makes four of us on this forum. awesome!

I read in the letter or on this page that the computers are easily accessible-- not on the other side of campus or anything. And I think I’m going to bring a businessy outfit (but probably not a pantsuit cause it’ll be hot) for pubspeak and a more fun one for going out or something.

21 more days! :-D

OK, few more answers: I’m almost positive all the TASP will have phone jacks and ethernet ports in all the rooms. You’re living in college housing, after all. Alternately, bring a cell phone. Erm, you don’t need a computer if you don’t want to bring it (for god’s sake don’t lug a desktop in), there should be labs all over the place. If you’re lazy, though, sitting on a couch with a laptop is a thing of beauty. Be warned, however, wireless may be spotty. I know UMich didn’t receive it last year. Bring an extension cord? Finally, a nice skirt/pants and a nice shirt will do fine. Don’t worry about a suit, and you don’t have to dress up for your pubspeak.

Bambi’s a good movie.

so is girls gone wild

Some computing advice:
- Bring a laptop if you have one. It will make finishing those late-night assignments much easier.
- If you bring a laptop, bring a surge protector and/or extension cord.
- Not all of the locations will have internet access in the rooms. Cornell does, UT’s is hit-or-miss, WashU doesn’t, and I’m not sure about UM’s sorority house. For UM, you can use campus computers with no problem, and the labs are not too far away. UT’s libraries close absurdly early, and so do their cafes. Good luck. WashU has wi-fi and ethernet in the dorm, but not in the rooms. Cornell has wi-fi throughout the house as well as a small (4-6 computers) computer lab, and the house is very close to campus libraries and computer labs.

By hit-and-miss, are you referring to wifi? Damn it, I don’t want to have to resort to wardriving to finish assignments. Maybe an extension cord can also serve as a gallows.

Former U of M TASPer here. Alpha Gamma Delta is one strange place, but you can’t fault the greek girls on their tech setup. The house has two ethernet ports in every room, as well as a three computer computer lab in the basement that also has walkup ports. Sometimes ethernet cables can be hard to come by, but we hunted around in the closets on the second floor and discovered a treasure trove of them.

What makes it a strange place?

Well, just look in the basement rooms and you’ll see. In one of the rooms is a meat freezer with lots of rancid sausage and pina colada mix. Also, it was leaking. In the back corner of this same room was the ethernet line-in (we had to reset it a few times) and some old bicycles. But, it had great cell phone reception. Go figure. Just explore, or play a game of hide-and-seek. Trust me, you’ll find some weird ass stuff, some useful even.
