Taylor Swift (and that guy) Wedding

One of the best weddings we attended was at a warehouse that was rented out as a venue. Anyone using it had to bring everything in…everything. It was gorgeous beautiful flowers and other tasteful decorations. It didn’t look like a warehouse at all. I think there were about 500 at the wedding we were at. They used multiple floors for the event, so the cocktail hour, for example, was on a different floor than the reception dinner and dancing.

My guess is this is going to be fabulous.

Swift and Kelce just donated $26 Million to food banks and children’s charities ahead of their wedding. They focused on ones where they live or have had homes: New York, LA, Kansas City, Rhode Island and Nashville…also Philly

None of my business, but I just don’t understand it. NYC. On not just a holiday weekend but a major milestone holiday weekend with so much else already going on at the same time. Why? I feel for all the public servants and others who will be impacted by an event that could have been anywhere or any time. I also have thought it was a ruse, but if it is it’s an elaborate expensive one. They showed all the security scanning delivery vans and drivers, etc.

I don’t believe for one second they are actually getting married there. They are probably getting married (only close family and closest friends) at her gorgeous house in Watch Hill with a big after-party at MSG. I am betting money on it.

My thought is that a lot of the guests from the entertainment or sports world are “off” around this time of year. No way could they do a wedding in the fall with football etc.

While I agree MSG seems like an odd venue, it is very secure and everyone can be shielded from the paparazzi once inside.

And THEY are not the ones turning this in to a media frenzy, the media and fans are doing this. I hope their wedding is all they want.

I was on vacation a couple of years ago and Jack Antonoff got married a few blocks away. TS attended and it about shut the town down, I felt so bad for them and the other businesses that were trying to carry on. The media and fans were relentless.

I’m sure it will be spectacular, TS knows how to get things done

Yeah, but they were probably off two weeks ago or two weeks from now. Why a major holiday / the country’s 250th birthday? I doubt many of their guests have trouble getting PTO to take an extra day off on a regular weekend.

It is up to NYC to say “no” if it believes it is bad for its public servants or citizens. No one is forcing it to issue a permit. TS seems to not want bad publicity if the city said “we asked her to do it a different time,” my guess is she would have said ok.

Everyone is talking about the impact, but that’s probably why they are doing it in NYC. Plenty of hotel rooms and conventions bring in way more than that amount on any given day. While it would shut down most of the towns they have connections to, NYC is built for large scale events and knows how to handle them.

I wish them every happiness. The Kelces are good people.

If you have all the money in the world, and all your people have apartments in NYC, and what you mostly want is privacy and control, MSG makes a lot of sense. New Yorkers are pretty used to celebrities and huge events; the house in RI would have been impossible to secure from mobs and Watch Hill is already choked with hopeful swifties. At least it’s a happy occasion!

I attended 2 wedding receptions that were held in a large garage usually used to house the vehicles that are a family business. ( don’t want identify too much). In both cases, the place was thoroughly cleaned, a company came in and draped the walls with fabric and built a big dance floor. There was lighting , fans, tables, bars, gorgeous flowers and even the really nice restroom trailers ( flush toilets).

The decor and table set ups were different for the two wedding, but both times it was absolutely beautiful. I honestly was amazed.

The probability that MSG will look like a Knicks or Rangers game is zero

Our high school parents decorate the school each year for an “after-prom” party. It is so elaborate that they open the doors to the general public during the prom. Most years you can’t even tell you are in a school.

Taylor Swift has famously held a big 4th of July weekend party for many years, so the 250th for her wedding actually seems quite on brand despite MSG not at all feeling as much her style as say The Met would have seemed…but she is marrying a professional athlete and so maybe it was his influence?! And as others have said, a designer with a multi-million dollar decoration budget can certainly make it look like anything she could possibly dream!

Exactly. This is a woman who orchestrated a planet-wide tour with a massive staff, tremendous sets, and inventive costumes that never descended into camp. A wedding would seem pretty easy in comparison.

I have no idea whether or not I would spend millions on a wedding, because I have never been in a situation where I could easily afford to spend so much (as they can). I don’t have a problem with people spending it if they have it … I’m sure lots of people would think my parents spent too much on my wedding or I spent too much on D’s wedding. What I especially like, though, is that this couple spent what many of us might consider an obscene amount of money on a wedding, but they donated an obscene amount of money ($26 million) to charities as a part of their wedding celebration. They have money, they get to spend it … and they chose to spend a lot of it on charities near and dear to their hearts.

Could not agree more. We are spending what many would consider an obscene amount on my younger daughter’s wedding. It is why I have chosen to continue working when I could easily retire. I feel like it gives me the “right” to spend incredibly frivolously. Though it’s obviously a tiny fraction of what TS wedding is costing. I do note that my spending will be used to “employ” a host of people. Musicians. Chefs. Servers, Artists, Florists, etc…. Taylor wealth is so vast and many will undoubtedly benefit from her spending. As well as her charitable contributions.

City Harvest in New York issued a release including the amount they had received from the couple. “We are incredibly grateful for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s generous $1 million donation to City Harvest. This donation is a love letter to New York, and a bold commitment to our efforts to ensure that no New Yorker goes hungry,” said Jilly Stephens, CEO of City Harvest. “Their support comes at a critical time, with visits to New York City soup kitchens and food pantries near record highs and expected to increase further in response to federal funding cuts.

It’s nice that they donated but it still puts a lot of NYers in an inconvenient situation on a busy holiday weekend. Lots of road closures and limited access to Penn Station. Businesses around MSG and the road closure areas will no doubt be affected. They are footing the bill for the city having to put gates up around MSG and provide enhanced security. I’m also betting there will be plenty of Swifties flocking to the area to try and get a peek. Reports are that they bought out a few hotels in the area for guests.

If I had unlimited funds, a sports arena in the busiest city in the world on a holiday weekend would not be my choice but I’m sure her team will make it great (and probably release a documentary about it). If they were able to pull off the marriage beforehand without any paparazzi knowing, it would be the greatest coup of the entertainment industry, as they have been stalking mama Kelce’s every move for weeks (she arrived in NYC via commercial flight yesterday per TMZ).

Also wondering whether they will heed Mamdani’s 78-degree request?

Not to be the Debbie Downer, but “all that money” spent on @maya54 ’s kid or mine, goes somewhere. Giving @maya54 credit for saying it first.

It’s business and therefore income for designers, florists, limo drivers, chefs, servers, hotels, hotel staff, airlines, all the retailers who sell new clothes to the guests, wedding dress designers, DJs, bands, food trucks, etc. Certainly there is a multiplier of how much weddings of various sizes contribute to the economy.

Unlike one wedding of a coworker (I remember from 1983 — not mine), Taylor’s not waiting for the cash gifts to hopefully defray the cost of the reception.
