TCU Class of 2024 Discussion

For all those deferred- my HFS was not deferred, but I know from helping a friends HFD get it- you need to be proactive and email the admissions person ASAP and stay on it if TCU is your first choice! If is a fabulous school!

what are your Extracurriculars? We have almost the same test score, I want to know what nursing experience you have.

@Mtnbrookdawg : What did/does your son love about honors at TCU? DS has been accepted EA to TCU + Honors, but we can’t afford TCU unless he wins Chancellor.

@rubixcuban - Hope you don’t mind me jumping in to add some info on Honors. My D is a sophomore Honors student. She chose TCU over another school (top 20) in part due to the Honors College. She lived in Milton Daniel last year and LOVED IT. She made many great friends in Milton, and enjoyed being surrounded by the very diverse group of Honors students in the dorm. She has already taken several Honors classes, which were just what she hoped they would be: small (one of her classes in the spring of Freshman year only had 10 students), and taught at a very high level. She applied for and was very fortunate to be chosen to go on the freshman Honors summer study abroad trip — Cultural Routes — which was nothing short of life-changing.

Finally, she is very grateful for priority registration. I had no idea how important this was until she was actually at TCU but had I known, it would’ve been higher on our list of priorities when picking schools. The Honors students register before other students (except maybe for athletes), and as a result, they have a MUCH easier time getting the classes they want/need. Again, I really can’t overstate how important this is.

There are other great things about the Honors College (separate advising, etc.) but these are the things that have been the most important to her. Hope that helps!

@rubixcuban Your DS was already notified of Honors College? I had thought that they would find out later.

You are correct. He got Dean’s Scholar, honors has not replied. Although the chances of getting invited for Chancellor and not getting in Honors are small.

@rubixcuban thanks so much for the quick reply.

We are in the same boat. Deans plus chancellors weekend invitation. I saw people last year who had strong credentials and those other factors and still got turned down for the Honors College. We have not been counting on it until we hear for sure. I think the quality of the essays matters a lot in the decision. It is also likely a different group of faculty reviewing the application.

My son was accepted and got his financial information yesterday.

My father in law went to TCU our family bleeds purple but things have gotten way out of hand.

He’s a NMSF with very high stats. Got some decent money, but still would require over $30k/year in funds/loans to go.

Sorry, that is just a poor return on your investment. Esp given that he is going engineering and has already been accepted to A&M with $.

National merit will get him full ride at texas tech or a lot of the state schools that are good for engineering. Chancellors at TCU should bring it down to about $20 k remaining if on campus. I am assuming he likely got invited to that weekend. Maybe wait and see? Our TCU financial offer is not good enough without additional scholarships. But it is not done yet.

Yeah, he doesn’t want to go out to Lubbock…We’re in San Antonio. When all is said and done, A&M will most likely be his choice and he will a decent amount of $, but not a full ride. We did consider UT Dallas, but he wanted a bit more of a traditional college experience, plus he has a couple of buddies going to A&M. I think that’s important to have some familiar faces that first little bit as homesickness has a tendency to set in.

Did anyone else have an Honors College Letter Link on their portal today - but when you clicked on the link it was invalid. Then roughly 2 hours later the link disappeared?

yes

I asked on the tcu fb page last night and was told that students would find out honors college info in their portal sometime today.

Honors college decisions are out! I was accepted!

My daughter was accepted to Honors College:) Anyone know how these kids find each other for potential roommates?

there’s a tcu 2024 group on facebook!

Does anyone know when deferred students will know anything? I was looking at last years forum and it seems like it was the first week of March.

I was trying to find something the other day. The deferral letter I ran across says “you’ll hear back by mid March”

My son is waiting too, we would love to hear great news soon!
