Teach For America 2012 Corps

Welcome Socalgirl! what subject and regions did you preference?
Lifeawaits, I think they get like a X-mas break or something which is why theres such a gap between dates, lol. I wish I couldve signed up for early decision, but I dont have any competing offers, except I was Waitlisted for CityYear. UGH!! WHERES THE FASTFORWARD to JAN 17 BUTTON??? I hate not knowing whats going on.

Thank you for the welcome Mookie08. My subject preference is Bilingual Education or Spanish as a Foreign Language. My highly preferred regions include Seattle, Colorado, Memphis and Eastern North Carolina. Did anyone have their final interview downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 30th? I have read many post on here regarding TFA and am so glad forums like this exist and provide a place of support from others experiencing the same hope, fears, joys, etc.

Mookie, haha yeah, I think there’s a break for Christmas and New Year’s… I noticed that the other deadlines’ wait period weren’t as long as ours… lol.

Oh, and what was the application process like for City Year? Is the interview format similar to Teach for America’s?

Well, the City Year application was nothing like TFA they didn’t ask for preferenced areas, because you just applied to whatever City you wanted, I did NY, they didn’t ask for grades as all you need is to be 18. They did ask for recommenders. And they have an initial phone interview, then a final interview, because I appliyed fo CYNY both of my interviews were over the phone, and I’m pretty sure I wouldve gotten it had I interviewed in person, but the CY budget was crazy, and I’d be struggling financially if I got it. Now that I look back, I’m kind of glad I didn’t get accepted, but now TFA has to accept me so I can feel better lol. Just a Little over a month till we find out!!!

Hey Future Teachers,

I think I figured out TFA’s process by accident. I forgot to upload a transcript so I emailed TFA. She said just order my transcripts and upload them as soon as possible; however, uploading them late would not affect my admission decision. She said the only thing that might be delayed is my placement if I don’t upload them by January 6th.

So here’s what I think. TFA is taking this time, meaning December 5th through the holiday break to make admissions decisions. After January 6th, they are going to start assigning regions and teaching assignments. That’s why I won’t have a problem if I upload my transcripts late. That’s also why we have until January 6th to change our regional preferences.

Although this is just a hypothesis, I hope it helped to calm a few nerves.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Your Cali Girl,

Siva562

Siva, haha yeah, that’s what I figured. I wish they weren’t taking their sweet time making admission decisions, so we could know the results earlier & perhaps have the best Christmas present ever!! On the other hand, maybe it’s better to find out later so we won’t ruin our holidays with it… Eep.

Ugh! They need to get it together!!! Lol, I just took the survey they sent me, and I told them they need to cut the wait short, around the holidays lol.

Ugh! We still have over a month to go. This wait is killing me :frowning: I just want to KNOW already. Why didn’t we all apply to the first deadline? :frowning: I graduated the 10th of this month (yay me!) so I literally have nothing to keep me occupied (besides work and trying to catch up on some leisure reading). Good luck to everyone and I hope you all have a great holiday season!

OMG guys, so you know I applied to City Year NY in Sept and got waitlisted, so its the main reason why I applied for TFA, so today I got an email, saying I was accepted!!! But, of course City Year is no TFA, so I emailed TFA telling them I had a competing offer, and I got put on the early notification list,so I find out my acceptance on TUESDAY!! The 20th of DEC, isn’t that crazy!

Wow Mookie! Congrats!!! Please do not forget to let us know how it went! CRAY CRAY. Good luck!

Speaking of different programs, are any of you seniors and/or applying to grad/law programs at the same time?

I will!!! And I actually started working on NYU’s app last night. Its confusing because some states require us to get a MA, but by the time we’re informed of our decision the period is too late for apps, so I’m wondering if we apply our 2nd year

Wow, that’s crazy!! Good luck, Mookie, & let us know how it goes!

I think grad programs that are cohorts to Teach for America have different deadlines for corps members… For example, I’ve been looking into Johns Hopkins’ master’s in educational studies, and their deadline for TFA corps members are June/July, so we would have time to find out if we’ve been accepted to TFA before we apply… I’m pretty sure it’s the same for all the other programs (that are partnered with TFA)!

And 2love1squared, I haven’t applied yet, but if I don’t get into TFA, I’m thinking of applying to Arizona or Denver Teaching Fellows programs.

Hey guys! I found the schedule for institute, if any of yall wanted to know [2012 Institute Schedule | Teach For America](http://www.teachforamerica.org/why-teach-for-america/training-and-support/summer-training-institute/institute-schedule)

Hello you all! I got a competing offer today so I emailed TFA. They’re going to let me know about my acceptance on January 10th so I’ll keep you all posted. Mooke! Good luck tomorrow. Please let us know of the good news :)

Ohhh! You guys are so lucky for finding out early!! Good luck ><

Yay siva! From where??? Thanks Lifeawaits!!! I’m beyond anxious

Hey Mookie. I’m from Long Beach California. But I applied to places on the East Coast. New York is my first choice followed by D.C. and Los Angeles.

How cool! I preferenced those too. What university? And what program did u hear back from?

Still so long to go its nerve-racking. Good luck to Mookie today and siva on the tenth, you are both so lucky.
We just got are grades back here so now I have absolutely nothing else to think about and it sucks, So nervous!!!
