Let us know as soon as you hear something, Mookie! After your hopefully celebratory dance, that is :)

Hi Siva562. Congratulations on your competing offer. I am from Long Beach as well (born and raised there). Did you happen to have your interview downtown L.A.?

Hello!!! I went to Long Beach State and I just graduated last May.
I didn’t interview in LA because I’m doing a year-long fellowship in the
Bay Area so I interviewed in San Francisco.

Thank you so much for all of the support. I hope you all
have a wonderful holiday season! My positive vibes go out to
everyone :)

Good luck Mookie! We’re all rooting for you!! :)

So, I got rejected…but its OK!!! Because I’m Going to NY!!! Lol goodluck!!!

Wow! I’m surprised Mookie…did they say why?

But you’re going to NY through CityYear?! That’s awesome! Congrats! Please keep us updated!!

All my best :)

No really vague, just after reviewing yourr application for candidacy we regret to inform you we will not be able to offer youa position in the 2012-2013 corps, but my feelings are far from hurt! Lol

Aw, well, at least you got into another awesome program & can go live in New York! I guess whether or not you were admitted to TFA, it would have been a win-win situation for you. Congrats! :)

Hi Mookie. I agree with lifeawaits…this is definitely a win-win situation for you, so congrats! I am interested in learning about other programs that are similar to TFA (just in case things don’t work out). I was wondering if you might be willing to share some info. about City Year? Is it salary based? Are there regional placements?

Thanks guys I love my new TFA lifesupport group of friends lol But CityYear is similar to TFA in a sense of going to work in low-ncome areas to eliminate the educational disparities between minorities. Only difference is, it is not salary-based, you live off a stipend, afterwards you get the 5,500 award from Americorps, and there are partnerships with universities that enable you to get your MA with a scholarship. You don’t apply regionally, you have to choose the CityYear location you want to work at, and apply to that specific one and if you get rejected you cant apply more than once in a year. We have to wear a uniform everyday of red city year jackets, khakis, and timberlands, lol, and we work M-F for about 12 hours. Its a service based organization, and they don’t require you to have a BA, because they accept applicants as long as you have a GED or high school diploma, but its a highly selective program also. Doesn’t get an influx as TFA but it gets a great deal. There are CityYear locations in Boston, Los Angeles, NY, Texas, all major cities.

Here’s the link to the website [City Year: give a year. change the world.](http://www.cityyear.org/default_ektid22283.aspx)
There are also programs like PLACE corps in which you teach in Los Angeles at different Catholic Schools, salary based, funded through LMU, and u get ur MA for free. But the app is due on Jan 30th
*Americorps

Thanks for the info. Mookie. You answered many of my questions and I’ll be sure to check out Cit Year’s website. Happy Hoiidays everyone.

Hey!! I’m TFA Houston too, and I’m assigned to middle school as well! Are you definitely joining the corps?

ahhh! So much stressed in my life recently…!! Getting into TFA would solve all my problems! (haha, not really but it’ll definitely make me feel better, haha).

Question: Would you guys apply for loan deferment through TFA once u get accepted & start your service? Or would you try to pay back your (undergrad) loans as much as possible BEFORE starting TFA? (FYI, TFA defers your loans for 2 years and pays for all interests that accumulated during those years too).

What do you guys think?? I mean, of course, I realize we should first get into TFA first before worrying about stuff like this, but since our interest escalates on a daily basis, I want to make a decision as soon as possible. (Right now, my interest is like about $300 per month! ugh).

So i had a dream more of a nightmare that I didnt get it last night. It was horrible.
And lifeawaits I think in your situation I would apply for the deferral, something a financial officer at my University told me was if you can defer payments always do because while your deferring you can still make payments if you choose straight on the principle which would lower your future interest. This was like four years ago and I know the lending system changed so not to sure how factual it still is. Anyways Happy New Year everyone. Only fifteen days to go!!! :)

haha, cantTouchThis, I had a dream like that too! I woke up feeling horrible that day, ugh

Hello Support team!

All of the dreams we (myself included) are having just show how much we really want this opportunity. I have found myself obsessing about TFA. I check the website everyday; I go on this forum everyday.

Well, a week for today I will find out if I am offered acceptance to the corps. Next Tuesday I’ll be checking my email 100 times a day waiting for the admissions office to tell me yes or no.

But my goal now is not to obsess over TFA. I need to relax and not let this decision overwhelm me. So, I’m signing out till Tuesday, January 10th. You all will be the first to know whether I’ve been accepted or not. Please wish me luck and I will talk to you all in a week :)

I’ll use the format:

accepted/rejected
applied for transitional funding: yes/no
subject
region

Thank you all for so much support and love! I wish you all the best too!

Sincerely,

Siva562

Even though I’ve never met any of you, I feel that you are my (TFA) family since we are sharing this experience.

That said, hope everyone is having a good start to the New Year, although I think I speak for all when I say an acceptance letter from TFA would be the most wonderful way to kick off 2012 .

Siva562, I’ll have my fingers, eyes, and toes crossed for you!
Good Luck.

Hey everyone, just 2 weeks to go! Has anyone made any updates to their assignment preference sheet/know if it is acceptable to make changes? After doing some research there are a few more regions I would like to add. I applied for the 3rd deadline so I have already turned it in, but on the form it just says not to make any changes after Jan.6th and tells you how to resubmit the form. I tried emailing admissions but they have not responded.

Mookie, I was wait listed for city year too! The wait is rough, and I applied after you so I won’t know for a few more weeks.
