I am looking at doing Rhode Island or Illinois Teaching Fellows. I also will have my Masters degree in English, so I could go teach Freshmen Comp at small colleges, but I don’t want to teach the people who have no problem getting to college… I want to help people get to college in the first place! At least for now. :-)

Ita great to read the posts here where everyone expresses good feelings after their interview! I just get the vibe that EVERYONE feels this way when they leave. The interviewers make it a point to make us feel comfortable.
If you had to rank the activities of the day how would you rank them- first being what you feel most confident in and so on?
For me I would put them this way: 1. 5 min lesson. 2. One on one interview. 3. Group activity.

Laine,

I felt the same way! My ranking would be close to the same, I think. I didn’t get to completely finish my 5 minute lesson, but I was at the very last part, and the interviewers could tell where I was going with it, so I think that was really good. I also felt really good about the interview… so I’ll say the two are almost tied!

So mine is 1. Lesson, 2. Interview, 3. Group Interview

I was asked to an interview with Arizona Teaching Fellows, but I am looking into other fellowship programs as well. I am not sure other programs are as organized as TFA. I really want to teach though because I cannot imagine having to go back to a retail setting after graduating or at least for tge summer.

Laine, I honestly feel that way too about everyone feeling good when they leave. I would say I feel almost tied in everything, so:
- One-on-one interview
- Lesson plan
- Group work

Someone asked why teachers would apply to TFA.

I am a teacher. I am also waiting on the March 6 decision deadline.

For me, I think TFA educates their teachers and provides some support for them. I think that in itself is enough to want to apply because it makes you a better teacher for the kids.

Hey! I feel the same way Laine

1- Lesson

2- one on one

3- Group interview

Oh! I didn’t know about that deadline extension, in their website it still says Feb. 10th and on the admissions blog also says Feb.10th so that was a surprise for me.

14 days to go!!! Yay!

March 6th is literrally all I can think about. I want this so bad…words can’t even describe it. I really want a career in public policy in regards to education. I hope TFA gives me that door of opportunity. I really hope everyone gets in, and congrats on your past success.

TSG

On the initial application page on Feb. 11th it read something to the effect of “if extenuating circumstances kept you from submitting your application by the 10th you may submit before Feb 16th at 11:59pm”
As far as interview days go, seems like most of us feel the group activity wasn’t our strongest. I guess because we really don’t know what they are looking for!

Husker, I totally agree. I really want this to work out. I seriously check the website so much, I am scared to get a denial. I want a career, I want to change how kids are being taught and the structure of schools. I want kids to have a positive role model! I grew up in poverty and want them to see that you are not stuck in poverty for life. I want them to see the resources available to them, like financial aid. I have already inspired a few kids in alternative schools and introduced them to financial aid and it feels great. I just really hope they see my dedication and passion :-

Zettibetti, I would be seriously surprised if you don’t get accepted. Your passion is obvious just from this thread and I’m sure that came across during your interview!

Laine, I saw that too. I have tried emailing admissions to ask questions, but no one has replied back. I was going to say we could ask, but I can only imagine how busy they are!

Aww, thanks chikvicous I just saw this!!! I can see your dedication as well!!! I wonder how many of us will be placed together!!!

I hope we all get placed! That would be amazing

Hey y’all! Just chiming in after reading some of these posts! I just interviewed last Monday (2/13) so I am anxiously awaiting for March 6th with the rest of y’all. I’m so nervous, I really really really want this, but whatever is right for me will work out Good luck to all of you!!!

pes3108, welcome and good luck too! I know we all can’t wait till March 6th :)

thanks!! did anyone ever find out why they extended the last deadline?!

My guess would be that the website was having issues since so many people were submitting at the same time, so they extended the deadline so people who had trouble submitting would be able to submit over the next few days so the website wouldn’t shut down!

Welcome to the forum, pes3108!

13 more days!!! Yay!!! Come on March 6th!!! Did anyone pick Hawaii or Detroit???

No I didn’t. My top five choices were: south Louisiana, Nashville, New York, Houston, and Dallas.

I put Hawaii originally, then I did some more research and realized it wasn’t for me. I love traveling, and being there would be fun, but also very limiting since it is an island! I’d also have to sell my car, then buy a new one there. Plus, the housing is super expensive, and my boyfriend and I would be moving there together, so it was also limiting in him finding a job.

It’s exciting that you included it though! I think it would be a great place to make an impact, but I had to think about my BF when I put my placements, too.
