Teach For America 2012 Corps

okay okay i just spent 3 hours reading this thread…hi i’m dying here waiting to hear any news tomorrow evening. nice to meet everyone!

i thought my final interview was mediocre. i thought my lesson went well, and with regard to the group activity i tried to make good points but only said 4 or 5 things. one on one was okay…didn’t think i clicked with my interviewer though he was vehemently typing the other time. after reading this blog just now i checked my TF and realized i never sent in the forms i needed to so i guess that’s a lost cause. thanks for all the information everyone. good luck to all. i’ll be checking this obsessively tomorrow night!

Thank you everyone :)

Welcome swgadger!

@sadiesades: I received an email from a TFA recruiter in mid January. I had the opportunity to meet with him on my campus, and he also invited me to visit a KIPP school where some TFA teachers are placed. I majored in Economics, and minored in Sociology & Art History (random lololol I know). I am graduating in May like you!

Welcome swgadger!

Sadiesades, I am a graduate student who has always been passionate about issues pertaining to educational equity. I am/was (I’ve checked out emotionally over the last few months!) in a joint MA/PhD Sociology program but decided that I no longer wanted to be in academe since I loathe the research process. I entered my program because I wanted to be a role model for other students of color in higher ed but being engaged in my research made me realize that to be a role model for students of color, I really needed to be in the k-12 levels. So I sought out “alternative” programs for teacher certification and came across TFA and have been obsessed with it since. I originally applied to the 3DL but had to defer my final interview and here I am, losing my marbles as I wait…

Funny how learning about acceptance/rejection of TFA makes such a difference. I have tons of grading to do (I’m a TA) and also have to revise my MA thesis but can’t focus on anything. So, somehow I’ll finish grading by tonight and the revisions… well, we’ll see how that goes. But regardless of what happens, I’ll hopefully be graduating in under four weeks with an MA and trying to effect change on some level, although ideally it’ll be with TFA :-)

only 24 hours to go! We will all be fine either way but I hope
we are all accepted!!

Hey, ya’ll! I’m a senior who attends a school in the south (but I’m from the north) and I heard of TFA through their pervasive recruitment on our campus. I’m majoring in two things that frequently have people asking me, “well, what are you going to do with THAT degree?” :D

To all of you that are nervous…I just came across this video again on facebook. It’s always good for a much needed laugh!!

I have a feeling tomorrow is going to creep by so slowly! I am trying to plan lots of things to do to keep myself distracted/time flying!

@ssadiesades was your final interview in Dallas at McKinsey?

TFAOldster, my interview was actually in Maryland. :)

@ssadiesades thanks for responding  You sound very much like a fellow applicant I really enjoyed spending time with that day.

Best wishes for tomorrow night!

so tomorrow we will either see an email with the subject “Welcome to the 2012 Corps!” or “Your Teach for America application” lol.

I’m kind of confused–I’d thought that you get a notification in your Applicant Center either way but only get an e-mail if you’re accepted? But I’ve also seen discussions of rejection e-mails, so I’m not sure. I guess, yeah, it’ll either be “Congratulations” or “Your TFA App”… eeek!

Educatedbrotha - Are you sure they are sending out emails?? I’m super nervous now, because throughout the other stages of the process I received emails hours before the time they suggest to log on the site. I guess I will have to look out for “Welcome to the 2012 Corps!” or “Your Teach for America application”. Now I’m going to be checking my phone constantly lol.

yes from what I understand they send out an email. I too will be checking my phone constantly tomorrow. lol

TFA does many things well and one of the things I am very grateful for is the notification of your status Accepted or Rejected.

From past experience nothing is more frustrating than never hearing about an interview process that I thought I nailed or failed.

I am still hoping to teach in the Memphis area although as many of you have mentioned I agree that the last admissions blog was not encouraging.

Still calm about the TFA decision but have a life issue going on that is a very real “distraction” in my life. A rescue fur child was diagnosed with cancer, she will be undergoing a good prognosis surgery next week. We hope she will come through it well and in the future be cancer free on all her four furry feet.

Good thoughts would be very much appreciated for Lily. :)

I am a senior and a Rehabilitation Services major (random, I know). I graduate this May and am super excited to see what the next chapter of my life holds. I have always had a love for working with kids of all ages and seeing their minds absorb knowledge and information like sponges. I want to work where help is most needed and have had some experience working with low-income after-schoolers, so I applied for Teach for America. I have a huge passion for this and belief in TFA’s mission to the fullest. However, if it is not where I am meant to be then I know I will be able to serve somewhere else and still make a difference.

Everyone on this posting has seriously made the past few weeks SO much easier & I know you all deserve this position and will do GREAT things no matter where you go. 24 hours from now we will know if that next place is TFA. I can’t wait!

I know that my friends who were accepted from the 4DL posted facebook statuses announcing their news around a quarter til 7. I have a feeling we’ll know before 8 oclock…ahhh best of luck to everyone! I think I might personally just keep checking my application center rather than my email as my heart will just sink if I read “Your Teach for America Application” lol. Prepared for the worst but hoping for the best! Bought a pint of Ben and Jerry’s for tomorrow already ;)

Good luck guys. Going through the past DL’s, it seems there have been far more acceptances than rejections. Maybe this means that the sample of applicants on college confidential has a high acceptance rate  Best of luck to you all - I’m sure we’ll all be great CMs!

Today is the day of reckoning 5th DL’s (cue ominous sounding music).

Happy decision Thursday! Hope it’s a good one for everybody (including me)!

Best of luck to you all. I’ll see you guys back here b/w 6-8 EST tonight.
