I am accepted! Elementary in Detroit!!! anyone else there?

Hey guys!

TFAAMAN, thanks for encouraging us to check our status. I checked mine and unfortunately, rejected.

Some words… Not to sound bitter or angry or cocky but I am the epitome of what TFA says they want… I am the first in my family to graduate high school. I attended poor public schools my entire life. I essentially come from the exact backgrounds as those children that TFA seeks to help thus making me an ideal candidate. Not to mention I worked while earning my BA because my family did not have money to put me through school. It took me six years to get my BA and despite several obstacles, I finished. I went on to attend graduate school and am currently in the process of completing my MA. And still, did not get in. At my interview, I stressed my passion for educational equity and essentially told the interviewer that I wanted this because those kids are me 25-30 years ago.

Oh, and another thing… one of my students (I’m also a TA at a large public university) got in. Maybe they have a preference for students straight out of undergrad.

Anyway, don’t mean to be a downer. Figured I’d put it all out there in case others were curious as to what kind of people get rejected.

Congrats to all of you who have been accepted! And best of luck to all of those that have yet to hear.

Congratulations to all of you who got accepted, you will all do such great things through TFA! Those of you who were also rejected, keep your heads held high & know something else it out there for you! To have made it this far is great! :)

Just checked and…Rejected. I kind of knew I would be though since they kept pushing for me to illustrate more “leadership” positions in the interview…but, well, I just haven’t had all that many chances at leadership. Well, this just means now that I know what to expect and I know what to work on I can try again for next year!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! To everyone who got in, I know you all will be AWESOME at what you do. I wish you all the best of luck and that no matter how hard the road gets that you keep on trucking, YOU are and AGENT OF CHANGE!
