Teach For America 2021 Corps

@abbysm99 7 day countdown! How are you feeling? Im already making plans as though I am in.

I have already decided that if I do not get in this year I will reapply for the next round next year.

@abbysm99 Btw… did you ever get invited to the ā€œDay in a life of a corps memberā€ zoom meeting?

@mrs13g No I didn’t :frowning: I hope thats not a bad sign. When were you invited? I attended the zoom events that were pre-interview but I haven’t really heard much since after my interview, besides speaking with my recruiter for ranking regions.

I also know how you feel, for weeks I’ve been planning like I would be accepted but now I’m not so sure and feel like I need to prepare myself if I’m not

My interview and everything went so well I’m trying to stay positive but also prepare for the worst.

@abbysm99 I was invited last week by my recruiter! Turns out only certain locations were invited.

This is what my email said at the bottom:

  • Attend A Day In The Life of A Corps Member Event
  • Date: Thursday, December 3, 2020
  • Time: 7:00pm CT/6:00pm MT
  • Join other applicants from Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and California who are considering TFA to hear from current educators about their experiences being a part of the corps during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are admitted, it will be extremely helpful to have learned about this beforehand so you can include it in your consideration.

They are also having a TFA Celebrate event for those who make it in:
My goal during the offer window will be to make sure accepted applicants have everything they need to make an informed decision that’s best for you. To help you understand what to expect and block time for, here are my recommendations for things you can opt into to help make your decision:

  • Mark your calendar for the TFA Celebrate! Event
    • Date: Tuesday, December 8, 2020
    • Time: 7:00pm CT/6:00pm MT
    • Accepted applicants are invited to TFA Celebrate! as a warm welcome to our TFA community. In this live event, you’ll hear from members of our network who are excited to welcome you to the TFA community, learn more about what life as a corps member is like, and the broader work being done in the movement for educational equity. The event will feature an alumni keynote speaker, messages of congratulations, and a Q&A with current corps members and alumni. Registration will open on December 7th via email to admits.
  • One-on-one support from me
  • One-on-one support from your region
  • Alumni and/or corps member connection(s)
    • Talk to someone from your region/teaching your subject, in your field of interest, or any other connections you might want to talk through)

@abbysm99 The interview is the most important part, so hopefully the fact that you did well means you go in. Everyone in my location is getting the same information so I can’t tell if I have gotten in or not. Has your recruiter been saying anything to you?

@mrs13g ok that makes me feel better. I’m in New York City not any of those regions so maybe thats why I wasn’t invited, but I also haven’t even heard of the TFA Celebrate! Event… I’m hoping its a region thing rather than I didn’t get in. I can’t imagine that they would make it that obvious ahead of time, you know what I mean? My recruiter hasn’t said much to me besides our scheduled meetings, but I also wasn’t really ā€œrecruitedā€, I connected with her after the initial round of applications, and only did a few zoom meetings with her. I’m in EST time zone with a recruiter in charge of the Boston area so I’m assuming they just do things differently.

At least I hope… I’m in the same position as you, would already consider re-applying for next year if I don’t get in. I want it so bad!!! hahaha. If you go to that zoom event on the 3rd maybe let me know how it goes!

@abbysm99 I agree, I definitely don’t think i’m in just yet! I’ll do you a better one… I am going to try and record the meeting as I will definitely be going! I will send it to you after I’ve recorded it!

Im glad we are in the same position… anxiously awaiting a response and also knowing that if i don’t get in I will try it again next year because I want it so bad!

@mrs13g oh my gosh you are literally the best. Thank you so much!!! I wish these forums were more active this year, they were so busy in past years and now it’s is only us lol.

@abbysm99 I know! It actually makes me a little sad as I wish that more people were sharing their experience. I also wish there were more of us so that next Monday there would be a better chance of someone getting it and telling us what happened. LOL

@mrs13g looking on the bright side, could possibly be a good thing, meaning less applicants, and I feel like teacher need would be higher right now following the pandemic.

@abbysm99 I agree! One can only hope! I am just counting down the days now!

@abbysm99 SO happy I found this thread. I’ve been searching for other people who were waiting for Monday like me. I’m SO anxious lol. I’m from Texas but I did not receive the email about A Day In The Life… Hope that’s not a bad sign…

Welcome @CalebClark349! Glad you are here! it’s great to have another Texan here! What did you rank for your placements? And what grades do you want to teach?

@CalebClark349 OMG welcome to the club! So glad theres more of us now!!

@CalebClark349 @mrs13g Have either of y’all filled out the transitional funding? I know it’s open, but I don’t really want to go through the process of listing my finances and taxes and all that information before hand if I don’t get in on Monday .

@abbysm99 @mrs13g
My rankings were:

  1. Atlanta
  2. D.C.
  3. Houston
  4. Detroit
  5. Hawaii
I want to teach elementary, but I also put that I would do SPED and Middle school math. I haven’t filled out the transitional funding because I don’t want to get my hopes up more than I already have LOL. Just counting down the day…

@abbysm99 @CalebClark349 I have not applied for transitional funding either! Im also going to wait

How was your interview? Did you enjoy it, and if so, how do you think it went?

@mrs13g @CalebClark349 Awesome! haha glad y’all are thinking the same thing. I didn’t realize you are both from Texas, so cool! I grew up there. 5 days out now, constantly reminding myself to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

@mrs13g Did you go to that event on the 3rd? if so, how did it go?
