I’m a sophomore and math has always been an easy subject for me but I have this very bad algebra II Teacher who can not teach. The average he gives you is entirely based upon your test average I’ve had one bad test from lack of sleep and now its my average is an 80 for him. Any tips or advice

Why don’t you just study? Study whatever material he’s trying to teach; reinforce it. Do you not get enough sleep because of the amount of homework? You should study in advance to the tests.

Some college classes are like that. In my son’s linear algebra class, his grade is based on his midterm and his final exams. Period. You need to get used to that type of grading. Go in for extra help if you need it.

I prefer this type of grading. I’m too lazy to put in a consistent level of work.

Yeah that’s my AP Calc class- 90/10 (10 being homework). Got an 81 first Q… by far the lowest grade on my transcript.

I mean yeah, I guess every teacher does since the tests and quizzes count toward your grade the most, home works and participation make no difference. My tests count for 30% of our grade in every class. It’s because if that is why I might have an 80 something in math.

Question: do only the finals grades of your year show up on the transcript or do all of the quarter grades of each year show?

wow, that really sucks…one bad test grade and then you’re screwed…? can’t you get a tutor though? or watch youtube videos on what you’re learning until you get it

but no projects, take home tests, etc? i even have those in ap calc

I feel ya’! I am a sophomore too and I am taking honors algebra II my grades are also based solely on tests and quizzes nothing else. However, I have a pretty good teacher, and we get review days before tests so it’s not terrible. So what I would say is ask another math teacher for help. Also try bright storm on youtube they have videos that can help grasp the basic concepts taught in class. Hope this helps, good luck!

My best advice is simply to get used to it. My abstract algebra class has three exams, where each exam is only 50 min long and is worth 25% of your grade (talk about time pressure…). Don’t be shy at approaching your teacher and asking for help. Not to be harsh, but you shouldn’t blame your teacher for your algebra grade – some or most of it is likely on your part.

How exactly would one self study math? Any tips
