Yep! Just registered for May 11. Just need to schedule a few meetings to see a counselor and a few apartments.

@northbeach

Haha thanks for the heads up!

Awesome!

If I don’t get accepted to Cal, I’m seriously happy about going to UC Davis.

Some fun random facts about Davis that have popped into my life in the last month:

-A friend of mine graduated from UC Davis and now works at NY Times
-Another friend just finished at the UC Davis School of Law and is headed to DC to work for the DOJ!
-UC Davis does animal DNA lineage for the public. I am seriously considering to get my cats tested since I’m just curious about their ancestry. Not really sure why LOL [UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory](http://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/)

^ yes, davis is an amazing school. my family attended CAL, but many of my friends went to davis and they are all incredibly intelligent. so i have always felt good about davis. i will go to UCLA if i miss getting into CAL. the move down south will be really difficult because of financial constraints. but LA has a great “history of science, technology, and medicine” program and that appeals to me. good luck dudes! feel proud. the UC system rocks.

oh yeah, my cousin is a winemaker and he went to davis. he just bought a ferrari. during the economic crisis in the world. when times are tough, people drink.

I’m actually really happy you mentioned you’re friends moving on to something great after graduating. One reason I’am hesitant to commit to Davis is because there’s no companies to intern/work for while attending. Whereas here in LA, I have so many options. My major is Communications and I plan to minor in a few things (or possibly double major), and currently I’m interning at Sony Pictures Studios. So my foots in the door, but if I leave to Davis it’d be like I’m taking a step aside. Basically, I can stay in LA and attend CSULB and continue interning at various locations or go to Davis…still waiting on SB though.

Also, good luck on Cal! =]

@cJm2009
drat, were you rejected from UCLA? or did you apply? an internship at sony is worthwhile.

@northbeach

Congrats on LA! I’m sure everything will work out fine.

I’m starting to very seriously consider Davis if I don’t get into Berkeley tomorrow. I originally applied for Davis on a whim (it was my 4th free application through the fee waiver), but the more I look into it the better it seems. I’ve heard nothing but good things! :)

I live in San Francisco and Google Maps says Davis is an hour and 18 minute drive (WITH traffic). You could always get a few hour a week internship in SF. Especially for a communications major, there are a lot of “tech entertainment” companies, along with PR, and journalism. I was a Conde Naste publication intern and I only worked 10 hours a week (1 day a week, really, plus an hour or two from home). By the way, my Conde naste internship was my #1 choice out of many. I remember being shocked at the quantity of internships available (and paid ones too!). I plan on interning at an SF startup in the Fall (already hired) and I don’t mind the commute at all (It’s one day a week).

I didn’t apply to UCLA. I plan to attend there for my JD though

I didn’t seriously consider Davis at all. I just applied since I wanted a wider net of options where I could remain in the Bay Area. But after researching and talking to friends, UC Davis sounds amazing! From talking to friends that went to UC Davis, it sounds like the quality of life is really high as well. It’s quiet, but fun, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I admit, Berkeley is appealing because of the program (English), but I am worried about details like signing up for classes, the vagrants that surround the campus, and just generally feeling like a grain of sand in the Sahara desert.

Lol I agree, Davis looks amazing!

@fluxrad

I freakin love you! I didn’t think about interning at SF! I drive an hour and 20 min. (w/ traffic) to get to Sony lol So commuting isn’t a problem at all! I need to start submitting if I plan to have one for the Fall.

You have plenty of time. I only planned early because I’m taking over a friend’s internship. Otherwise, I probably would have started looking at the end of the summer.

That’s true. I’ll just research what companies are up there for now

davis has always been on my list. never thought UCLA would accept me. cal is my first choice. davis rocks.

@cjm2009

I know Sony has a few satellite offices in SF. Possibly find an internal transfer opportunity?

so who’s for sure going to Davis? I knoww I am
already did my SIR

congrats uchappytrain. must be a relief to know where you are going. i am looking forward to that day as it lurks on my horizon.

yeah & UCD finally fixed my Financial aid!! they gave me the best package by far:) hopefully I can find a job up there in Davis while I go to school so I can pay my loan off before I graduate.

you should know where you’ll be going by tomorrow right? Good luck!!

yes, tomorrow is the day. did davis knock off that absurd 3800 dollar hit? tell me they did! i will be so happy.
