#TEAMUCDavis2012 Acceptance Thread

@Uchappytrain typically how long did it take for them to respond to the financial aid question? they havent responded. And i will also go alone during the friday june orientation but my parents and i will get a hotel somewhere for the night.

I emailed them at like 3 in the morning and when I woke up at around 10 or 11 they had responded

wait…so whats up with living on campus? I thought as transfers everyone would want to get their own apt. since rent isn’t too high. Is there something I’m not considering?

Congrats to all those that got accepted^^

Did anyone get accepted and expected not to be? (and if you don’t mind, could you give some info on why you didn’t think you would be accepted)

Bump my question - If you SIR UCD but you’re waiting for other UC’s waitlist decisions, what other steps should I take? Other than SIR. I had filled out my SLR, but should I also send in transcripts even if it’s not 100% that I’m going to Davis? Should I do my housing application? It seems like there is a $500 deposit for housing.

@tallludwig idk that’s up to you. It depends on how sure you’re going to get in on the waitlist. I’m on UCSD’s waitlist and I’m almost positive i’m not going to get a spot so i’m sending in transcripts and the housing fees

@cjm2009 I wanted to get a meal plan but the apartments were so expensive with a meal plan. The residence halls are way cheaper and we get our own kitchens and bathrooms (we don’t have to use the nasty community bathrooms like the freshman do) so its almost as if they are student apartments but for way cheaper. Plus theyre furnished and stuff.

Okay cool. is it required to room up with another person?

@uchappytrain where are you flying from?

Oh dang. Primero grove actually looks nice… I wonder if I can change my option from off campus to on campus.

@cJm2009 you can. just submit this form to the UCD Financial aid office.
http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/Forms/1213_UG_Publications/Change-in-Aid.pdf</a></p>

Nice, thank you!

Only a few more questions. What do i need to do to gurantee a apt. At primero grove? Also, just to confirm— my fin. Aid will increase if i switch to on campus?

As of now iam being offered: 14,000 scholarship, 5000 loan, and 2000 from grant, etc.= $21,000 in fin aid. Student contribution is 4000 and parents is 3000.

I dont really like my package. Especially coz’ my parents cant really help. If theres a loop hole to request more, id really appreciate if any of you help.

Plzzzz =] lol

Your fin aid package would increase if you switch to on campus, but your cost of attending will also increase so the contibution amount will be around the same.

I just read up on some more info regarding housing at Primero Grove, apparently you have to petition with special needs to live there. Continuing grad students have priority over transfers over there. Guess I’ll have a lot of questions to ask regarding housing during Decision UCD. T_T

@purplehaze i’m flying in from rancho cucamonga (the inland empire) i looked up flights today and they’re so expensive! the cheapest is like 200

@cjm2009 you need to contact financial aid and tell them you are not a commuter but you will be living on campus. they’ll increase your financial aid.you also have to change your FAFSA from commuter to on campus & you do that by going to your FAFSA and it should be under the schools you listed, switch to on campus

@omgitschewy what do you mean? Transfers are guaranteed housing for their first year. are you saying if you have special needs you need to petition? if so, that sucks i’m sorry.

@uchappytrain Sorry my wording was kind of terrible. This was up on Primero Grove’s website: “Second priority is given to incoming transfer full-time students only with permission in writing by Student Housing accommodating special needs.” Meaning regular transfers cant live there (I think). I think this only applies to Primero Grove, since we are still guaranteed housing, just in other dorms or apartments.

@uchappytrain… yay they finally responded "Thank you for your email to the UC Davis Financial Aid Office. A referral has been sent to your specialist to correct your package. Please allow 3 - 5 business days for your MyAwards to reflect the changes. "

seriously thank you so much idk how or if i would have figured this out about my aid!!!

I’m somewhat disappointed. This is the response I got from UC Davis.

What you will need to do is turn in a Change in Aid form to our office indicating that you will be living on campus as opposed to off campus. You can access the form here: http://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/Forms/1213_UG_Publications/Change-in-Aid.pdf</a> Please allow our office 7-10 business days to process documents. Also, at a later time, we may request for your housing lease as proof that you will be living on campus.

Sincerely,

Anne
UC Davis Financial Aid Office

She obviously read my concerns wrong and I’m supposed to travel to davis to turn in a form when I wasn’t the one who made the mistake?

Just call them. They can change it right on the spot

Am I the only one who got a weird e-mail from Davis? It was about volunteering during commencement ceremonies, but it’s addressed to UC Davis Staff lol
