Technical Theatre/Stage Management Major

Do you think it would be better to major in stage management or technical theatre if you want a career in stage management? I only ask about the technical theatre because I feel you would learn a lot more skills with a technical theatre degree?

Technical theater is a catch-all term that describes some combination of majors (in BFA programs) or concentrations (in BA programs) such as design, technical direction, and management. The exact mix depends on the school. But it is not a major.

Stage management is neither technical, nor creative. Rather, stage management is facilitative. One of the challenges I have with young SMs is pushing past the notion that SMs are technical. I know great SMs who come from acting and directing backgrounds. It is imperative that student SMs be well versed in all areas of theatre, including the above along with theatre management.
