Teens and girl/boyfriends home alone

I think that both of you are amazing.

I have to add something. Even before the scholarship thing, my DH did something absolutely amazing. We had moved, and a box of mine was lost. It was a box containing my memories of late BF. I had saved every card, every letter, every photo. I even had notes he had written me in French class. Some were even stupid teen arguments…but saved nevertheless. That box was lost, and by the time I realized it, all hope of finding it was lost. I was bereft, and sat in my closet sobbing. DH asked what was wrong, so I told him. He hugged me, but said nothing.

Without my knowledge, he proceeded to find out BF’s parents’ contact info. He wrote them a letter telling them what had transpired, saying I was inconsolable. He told them that their son must have been someone very special to have deserved the love of such a wonderful woman. He wanted to make it right if possible. He also sent out missives to many of my friends, asking for their help. I began receiving packages…photos from high school friends of the two of us, many of which I hadn’t seen before. BF’s parents sifted through old photo albums to come up with anything and everything. I even got programs from his funeral from old friends, and a tape of the jazz music played at the service that I had never heard since I was in the family area beforehand and didn’t hear it (he was a gifted jazz musician in addition to being a top scholar and pre-med hopeful). I got a program from an old high school acquaintance of a band concert which had both our names on it.

BF’s parents sent me a package and a note saying how touched they were by my DH’s gesture and told me how comforted they felt to know I had met someone who cared for me as their son had.

Could I be any luckier? We’ve had some tough times, but DH has come through when it really mattered, and this thread has revived these memories, so while I’m sorry to hijack, thanks to sylvan for asking the question.

:)

I really needed to find this thread! S1 is 16 and will be a senior. He’s younger than most in his grade. He feels that he should be able to do anything and go anywhere. He has a female friend who we’re not crazy about. She really pushes the limits. We don’t want him going to her house or her coming over here without parents home. S1 acts like this is unheard of. So glad to know I’m not alone!

Two of mine did. The first dated for about six years then broke up after college. He is now happilly married to someone else. The second dated for eight years. Started sophomore year in high school. They are happilly married and parents to two adorable kids. Yeah. I take teens seriously.

And no, neither was allowed to have a girl in the house when we weren’t home. Boys either. I don’t recall them ever complaining about it. Of course, I was home a lot.

Nrdsb4 - What a great story, and a great H. Sorry about the box. Your ex will always be in your heart whether you have his memorabilia or not.

^^^^You’re right, oldfort. :)
