The testing lab S works in received a crucial certification last week. This will allow them to continue to operate (required due to some new state regulations that will be implemented 9/1). They are 1 of only 2 certified labs in the state, so that also bodes well. I am so glad, because he finally found something he really enjoys doing.
My mom dropped iced coffee off for me at work because when we spoke this morning, I sounded tired. I’m 45 and seh still takes care of me!
@threebeans - Your mom is awesome!
My brother-in-law has been out of a real job for YEARS but my mom wrote me that he just got one!! Maybe that family’s luck is finally going to turn around.
I’m putting on our 12th annual event. We just got word that a sponsor will donate the requested $3000! This is the most they’ve ever contributed! Yippee! The past 2 years we were grateful they were a $1000 sponsor! We also have several new exhibitors who may be participating for the 1st time.
These funds from the event sustain our tiny nonprofit for the entire year, including our insurance and operating costs.
I’ve struggled with getting publicity for our tiny nonprofit. One of my new board members has many media contacts and says she will reach out to them to help publicize our event. Yay!
We found out this morning that our D, who struggled mightily through college, has officially graduated.
I had to have a CT scan this afternoon. I arrived a few minutes early. I was taken right in and started my car to leave 2 minutes after I was suppose to have my appointment!! That will never happen again.
Yippee! Am being allowed to combine the 5 e-travel certificates I have and the 5 H has to ONE certificate with United! It’s a relief so we don’t face to keep track of so many different #s and pieces of data (10 different certificates). Combined they total over $1000! Now H and I can be on the same itinerary together!
It has been a challenge because we’ve had to book on separate itineraries for many, many flights with different confirmation numbers because we were using the e-certain for each of our flights. I like this MUCH better.
They say if there are issues in booking with the e-certs, just talk to Premier or tech support and ask for waiver of any fees and they’ll help.
Our local chain of grocery stores, here right on the Mississippi river, actually roasts Hatch chiles outside every weekend, for a few weeks. I stumbled upon them about 2 weeks ago and they will go through Labor Day weekend.
I am so blessed to get fresh roasted green chiles so far from New Mexico! I have to say, most people aren’t familiar with them, but everybody who walks by and smells that lovely aroma picks up a container. And it doesn’t hurt that the containers are only $1 or so!
Wow! I’m jealous, @greenwitch!
I should try roasting some myself, using mesquite smoke too. We could all do that if we have some fresh ones @doschicos!
At that price, sounds like it’s not worth the bother!
Ha, I’ll be roasting this afternoon. Vac-bag then freeze to get me through until this time next year!
There is one building of condos on the river that I have wanted to move to for a few years.
Today an affordable one on the 3rd top floor has come on the market. It is on the river. My life long
dream has been to live on water. We could have a boat! It is a super walkable area.
H is going to go along with me. He would stay here forever. I love this house I built but I am ready for
a change. Wish me luck!!!
After months of delays in construction–firing our contractor, and hiring a new one-- our backyard Endless Pool is up and running!
D2 passed her second and final PhD qualifying exam! She still has to finish her masters classes this year, but now she is can take a couple more classes in her area of research interest instead of worrying about taking things to help with qual prep. And she gets to move past TAing and into research next senester.
A huge shout out to Alaska Air!!!
We still cannot figure out how our flight was for 6:40 am instead of 1:00 when H and I did it together and checked it twice.
$125 per person change fee. H called and the agent said, " since it was a mistake" and charged us $18 total.
Just Wow.
S (recent college grad) has been asked to be an international director of an organization he was very active in in college. This is an unpaid, part time volunteer job which will be in addition to the full time job he will start next month but will be terrific on his resume!
Yay, IRS, you FINALLY recognize that we did in fact pay you before our taxes were due in April and in fact owe you NOTHING! Wow—it just took multiple letters from our CPA and our paperwork proof and MONTHS for you to finally figure it out!
