Tell me somethin' good . . .

SAT is next week and 28 of my 37 students scored at or above their previous high on a mock test today

My Little Free library was running low on children’s books (my kids are grown and D left her job in publishing), but another LFL steward dropped off 2 big boxes of children’s books last night. I’ll be re-stocking!

^^^ I wish I was near you - I have access to oodles of gently used children’s books - I’d happily share!

I go for a walk a few times a week that goes past a LFL. I almost always take a YA or kid’s book to drop off. It is a way of reducing our somewhat overwhelming number of books in a way that feels good.

Seattle area mountaineers to the rescue again. A friend was hiking this past weekend, fell, fractured and dislocated her ankle. Two guys walking by brought her down off the mountain and took her to the hospital.

Today was a three-ring circus at my house, and it all went perfectly!

We needed a tree cut down in the front of the house. The tree people said that if we could get the wires down that are very near the tree, they’d charge us $400 less – not an insignificant amount! The electic company told me Sure, they do this, and there’s no charge. The cable company said they would charge us $80 (thanks, cable company --) but it was still worth it.

And it all went perfectly! Tree down, no electricity for a few hours, no cable for a bit, but everything is back to normal. I’m very pleased with myself.

(No, it’s true – I really don’t have enough to do. :frowning: )

well, he accepted his first real job! i know he wanted an exotic location rather than our hometown in the midwest, but he’s glad to have it all ready for him next summer. Well Done, kid!! We are pleased you’ll be nearby! (and yes, he knows we’re happy – telling him as well as an anonymous forum!!)

Just planted 80 bulbs along my front sidewalk. It should look nice in the spring!

Wanna come do mine now? :-*

VH: I wouldn’t mind the digging, but you’d probably mind buying me a plane ticket!

Just received the Spring semester bill!! On there were some charges I didn’t understand. On querying them the registrar’s office has removed them due to the fact that son was off-grid for 3 weeks before the start of term and didn’t pick up the ‘due by’ dates.
Yippee :))

My 10 year work anniversary was on Sunday and I got to choose a gift. My choice- gift cards from Athleta- one of my favorite stores!

My niece had a 9# baby boy last night–I’m a great aunt!

S has finally received the job offer he’s been waiting for. So he and his wife and their in utero baby will be moving to a much much much more desirable area of the country before the baby’s born.

I saw a cardiologist today who I LIKED. She got it. She’s good friends with the woman who’s the best onco-cardiologist on the East Coast. I so needed this bit of joy.

I’m having fun adding cities to my weather app as DD’s acceptances arrive.

I dropped off my ballot at a neighborhood rec center. A lady there told me there are so many voters, the street gets jammed with cars and bikes lined up for the drop off point. Active democracy: it’s a good thing!

Yesterday, I gave a talk about chronic lung disease and mentioned the epidemic of youth vaping. They were trying to pick a topic for next month and it was unanimous that the next topic will be vaping.

The Hawaii Pharmacy Assn is having their annual conference in April and asked me who they should ask to speak re vaping at that conference.

Lots of those in attendance took posters listing dangers of vaping. Today, I went to my internist and her office wanted 4 posters on vaping and 4 on clean air (no smoking or vaping) if kids are on the vehicle (our state law, county by county).

My lung doc and several of the other internists office also wanted posters, so I gave them some of each poster. I was very pleased.

I also connected the department with dangers of vaping speakers with the folks organizing the meeting and talked to my connections in the school system about how they’d like to include these resources in their school systems. I was able to get the school nurses throughout our state to attend the vaping epidemic conference which was held on 10/30. It was max capacity at 276 attendees! We had national speakers, legislators, educators, public health, lobbyists, and youth leaders. It was very well done and speakers were passionate, knowledgeable and engaging.

Plane tickets for the family to Spain to celebrate both my big birthday and the son’s college graduation have been purchased! Very much looking forward to what will probably be the last time our little foursome will be able to do something like this. So excited!!

I now have details about S1’s and DIL’s relo from North Dakota to North Carolina. They will be moving between Thanksgiving and Decembr 1. S1 starts his new job in NC on Dec 3. DH will travel to help them pack up their stuff and to accompany S1 as he drives 1,500 miles to his new location. DIL’s mother will accompany DIL as she drives her car. Since DIL will be seven months pregnant for this drive, the assistance of her mother is essential.

I am sooooooo happy they’ve been able to make this happen!!
