Well, the other day, I was in a funk because both my local friend who has worked at the local leg and national lobbyist told me that any solution or help for the medical equipment would be very time consuming (years).
Today, got a quick email with a draft of a letter from my state congressional delegation proposing a much quicker fix—weeks not years. The staffer will call the others in our state delegation so all 4 members of our state Congressional delegation will sign this letter and get it out!
Wow—sure hope it works! The prospect of lobbying for years locally and nationally was quite daunting and exhausted me thinking about it!
We have a grand baby coming! We’ve known for about 6 weeks but D & SIL wanted to wait until the second trimester to go public with the news. Now I can’t keep quiet about it. Today even the Wegman’s cashier heard the news.
Well, my medical equipment was delivered yesterday, despite threats to discontinue supplying it. Now have to see what happens next. We’re still fighting, locally and nationally to keep this invaluable treatment for all patients who should have it.
Well, last night I told my Board of Directors about the problems with getting needed medical equipment and supplies. One of the members meets regularly with the regional and national folks of the supplier’s company and had no idea about this issue. She’s going to follow up. I sent her a bunch of documents on how this is a national issue and had been for some time now.
I’m very pleased (and surprised) to have more allies. We seem to be addressing the issue from many angles—Congress, one of the contractual partners of the national company and our local insurer.
I am now officially my son’s Representative Payee for Social Security, which means I take care of all his financial affairs and he never has to deal with the incompetence of the SSA. They have changed the requirements so that parents serving as Rep Payees don’t have to file an annual accounting report anymore. So basically I will continue doing what I have been already and my son doesn’t have to get stressed out.
After months of tests and doctors, we know it isn’t cancer or ALS. And the treatment — surgery ---- can wait until after our son’s wedding in 6 (!!!) weeks. And they don’t mind if we spend that time getting a second/corroborating opinion. And it’s not ALS. I just want to keep saying that. Not. ALS.
Last year at this time I tried to do a short mountain hike with my family but had to turn back before the top because I just couldn’t make it. I was too heavy and out of shape. It was humiliating and it motivated me to make some changes. In the last year I’ve lost almost 60 pounds and I can now run 4 miles without a break.
Yesterday I returned to the mountain and did the hike in half the recommended time. Yahoo!
The school district I attended has just been named the best one in Texas. I’m hoping that’s good news for my parents as they prepare to put their house on the market! They built in 1973, before it was such a desirable area.
Today, I went and picked up a box of 500 plastic shopping bags from Longs so I don’t have to purchase bags! It’s a win/win—they get publicity and the attendees at the event have something to hold all their materials in so we don’t get paper all over the floor at our event.
I gave him and his family fabric bracelets with insect repellent imbedded so it repels insects with no chemicals touching the skin. He was thrilled! Our friend invented the technology and is ready to launch in South America.
D finished grad school in December has been living and working in NYC. Neither of us expect that she will move back home full time. This week she came home and we spent days doing a huge cleaning out of her bedroom. One donation trip (hopefully all her old clothing etc. will go to to good use) and one trip to the dump later her room looks so much better. Hopefully now she can come home and visit more comfortably now!
The only downside is now I think I need to do that kind of deep cleaning all throughout my house LOL
D gave her big presentation at her internship today and she reported that it went really well. She also received an offer for a full time position to start after she finishes her MBA in May.
Thanks @Whistlingal — you saw other products. My friend is still working to get approval in various counties for his product and us very close in several counties. I agree that it’s a great idea, especially for counties who suffer terrible diseases from mosquito bites. Those are the counties he’s focusing on.
