I just signed up for TSA Pre-Check and had my fingerprints taken. I had to pay the $85 fee, which I was expecting. When I got home, I had an email from my credit card company (Capital One) saying that they’re picking the fee up for me! I wasn’t expecting that.
VeeryHappy, what kind of Capital one cards do you have? We have had two for decades but they are quicksilver so I do not think they will pick it up. Have not checked but don’t think they picked up H’s recently.
My two dogs had a good morning at the boarding kennel today. Older one hasn’t been in over a year, and it was our younger one’s first time. We’re getting them used to it in preparation for over a week out of state next month, and we love knowing they’ll be someplace wonderful.
D2’s BFF married a physician from Mexico two years. The physician gave up his medical practice (as a pediatrician) to move to the US and live with his new wife. As a foreign trained physician he is ineligible to practice medicine in the US.
Last week he was accepted to a special program at UCLA’s Geffen School of Medicine that prepares foreign educated physicians to become family medicine practitioners who will work in medically underserved areas of California that match their cultural/linguistic background.
A person posted on our community FB page that her house is a safe space for any young person who is LGBTQ+ and needs it. Over 450 likes/loves for her post!
I had a pedicure today. A few months ago while getting one with the same person, we were talking about the Royal Family. Princess Diana’s name came up. I said “she didn’t love her sons enough to wear her seatbelt.” She stopped and softly said “I don’t usually wear my seatbelt.”
Today she told me that she wears her seatbelt all of the time because of my comment. I am so happy.
Tonight my husband and I went out for an anniversary dinner. He had a couple of drinks and I only had one, so although he was absolutely legal to drive I suggested I take the keys for the return and he agreed. Thank God, because on the way home a pedestrian darted across the road right in front of us. I had to slam on the brakes in order to avoid hitting him. We sat in the car panting "Oh my God! Oh my God! " in disbelief. A split second more in reaction time and the young man would have been dead instead of on the train he was running to catch and our live would have been forever changed.
@Sue22, that can happen so quickly. When D and I drove to Florida with my SIL, we were on a totally deserted minor highway at night - speed limit was at least 55. As I drove, I was talking away. SIL suddenly exclaimed, “Stop!!” Some idiot was on a small scooter, right in front of me, going 40 or so. I really think I would have hit him if SIL hadn’t yelled out. Still gives me the shivers, several years later.
Congrats Mominva. We have been on a couple and they are GREAT. By far the best we did was their Inca Trail to Manchu Picchu. Are you going far or near?
@esobay, I’ll be fairly near, staying on the east coast - Savannah and the film festival. It will be my first time in Savannah.
Baby steps in this retirement travel journey.
I’ve been mulling over taking a trip like this for most of the past year.
I was at a medical conference M-W. I was able to correct some mis-info one of the vendors had about one of the products he was marketing. He gave me a nice LLBean large travel toiletry bag and I made some good contacts.
My family’s nonprofit is bringing the internet to isolated rural community schools in Mexico. The provider of the protective iPad covers we use in our schools has been so lovely to us that I sent them a video showing how they’re being used. Now not only are they dropping their already low price for us and sending us a bunch of freebies, but they’ve asked if they can put our video on their website and ytube channel. Yay!
I had a wonderful weekend with my daughter at her college. I didn’t do any of the parents’ weekend activities other than attend the program honoring the students with high GPAs. I just hung out with D and got to know her boyfriend, whom I like a lot. We saw “Ad Astra,” which all three of us liked.
Then today, I made the 498-mile return trip in seven hours and 25 minutes, door to door. A record! No traffic or construction delays anywhere from central PA to southern Maine. That’s a miracle.
Someone that I know well had a sibling who died of Huntington’s Disease. They had waited to have the genetic test. They finally did and found out that they do not carry the gene!! Such a blessing!!!
Just spent a lovely long weekend with D19. She found cheap tickets to come home during fall break (4 day weekend). She wanted to surprise her dad. Cried some when I saw husband’s expression. I know it’s only been 6 weeks since she started school but it was so nice to have her home again. 9 weeks till Christmas break but who’s counting ?
