I am packing to move tomorrow. I’ve been here since 2007 when my daughter, now 24, was in 5th grade. Packing her books, I discovered that she saved all the cards I sent her in college, during which time we had a very strained relationship. OMG! Now here’s hoping the mover doesn’t chicken out!
@oldmom4896 : Good luck with your move. How sweet your daughter saved your cards! We do influence them, even when we don’t think we do.
My son’s scuba business is donating dozens of masks to the local hospital. Who’da thought scuba gear would become essential health care equipment? So happy they can be of use.
In the midst of all this craziness, S was just told he is being promoted - He’s an an accounting manager for a company that provides accounting and financial services. Now he will have controller responsibilities for all of his clients. So grateful it looks like his job is secure. Hoping the same for D.
He has spent all of today digging into the stimulus to find out what kind of help is available for his small to medium-sized business clients.
One of my closest friend’s daughter just got a tenure track position at a top 10 national university. All she has to do now is finish her thesis and defend it (June or July in person if things with CV19 are if not by Skype or Zoom etc.)
My kid also got a promotion a few weeks ago. Heading up his company’s Sales Analytics team. His first day has been during the work from home edict - which was a bit weird. But it is what it is.
A couple of people in my community just organized a Go Fund Me drive to deliver meals from local restaurants to staff at the regional hospital in town and to first responders. It will help keep local restaurants in business and give those dealing with the coronavirus wave a little cheer. We made a healthy donation.
BTW, in all this let’s not forget the hospital staff besides doctors and nurses who are dealing with the possibility of coronavirus infection on a daily basis, such as orderlies and cleaning staff. That person changing a coronavirus patient’s bedsheets or removing their cruddy tissues is at risk of contracting the virus too, and they’re working for a whole lot less money than those with medical degrees.
My son just texted me the results of my grandpup’s DNA and she is 14% of a breed with my family’s ethnicity
I’m not sure if this should go here or the funny story thread. I’ll do both.
Thank you. My daughter is a patient care technician (nurse’s aide) and spends more time with patients than do the professionals. She lives in a place that is waiting for the tidal wave but already two of her patients were transferred to ICU when they needed extra care for the virus.
I didn’t get out any Christmas cards but I’m picking up a batch of “Corona Cards” that I had made instead to send out. Everyone I know could use a nice surprise in their mailbox!
@threebeans : Are these pre-made or did you design them yourself?
The Getty asked people to recreate famous works of art with things they had around the house…
@threebeans I just got a lovely card from a friend who didn’t get to Christmas cards this year and it was so appreciated. I’m sure your cards will be as well!
Here’s some good news:
Today I engaged in some good old fashioned civil disobedience and it felt good!
(Not Covid-19 related-neighbors are trying to claim a piece of public property as their own and have block access to a path used by the entire community for hundred of years. I climbed over the barrier while they filmed.)
S19 had his creative writing critiqued today. It was an experimental piece a la “Finnegans Wake”. His Prof gave him a list of a few literary mags and suggested he submit his work.
He’s absolutely floating!! We could not possibly be prouder of him! We always thought he was amazing, but we’re mommy and daddy so we definitely don’t count!
This is good and bad - I copied from someone’s IG post -
Last month was the first March without a school shooting in the United States since 2002.
Milestone achieved: Son (senior Stanford) just had to PAY back to state income tax for his 2019 return. Summer internship + PT job. Now he gets to “feel the pain”
D and SIL close on their house tomorrow!
DD’17 (a working graphic designer) is a finalist in a t-shirt design contest for our state fair! FB voting on the finalists starts today and she’s just so excited to get some art-related recognition. So far she has the most likes!
