I am going to get to see my daughter in person - first time since March. I just made the reservation and packed our bag.
^^^^ Jealous. We’re hoping for Thanksgiving.
We’re getting a dog tomorrow! We lost our old sweetie on Memorial Day and this one has her same vibe. Though we have a couple of cats who might not think this is “somethin’ good”.
One of them will try to be her buddy though.
^^^ I’m jealous of your new dog!!!
I am going on vacation next week, with one of the kids.
My D turned 18 today. We went out for a moms & daughters socially distanced meal with her friend since pre-K. They are at different schools now so we had a fun evening catching up, laughing, talking about boys and all those things that girls do.
I went to a ‘park social’ tonight. We all brought our chairs and drinks and masks. It was so nice just to SEE people not on zoom. Perfect weather, big full moon.
We even have a volunteer event coming up. The hospital stuffs bags for the newborns with diapers, a few outfits, a book and a toy. We’ve been doing it once a year for 5-6 years and they are allowing us to do it again, but in a much smaller group.
New normal.
Our S arrives in HNL tomorrow!
Our Lt Gov agreed to tape a message for my World COPD Day zoom webinar in 2 months!
Monarch butterflies are migrating now–fun to see! Our weather has been perfect the last couple weeks, which makes butterfly watching even better.
My son’s psychiatrist is working on legislation to make it easier to get patients admitted to the best psych hospital in the state, and he has asked me to help him with it. This makes me very happy. It’s really cool living in a low-population state, because it’s easy to make a real difference.
Talked on the phone with a cousin today. We are the same age and saw each other all of the time growing up. I remembered what a positive and upbeat person she is and we had a great talk.
Interesting hybrid start to high school, but D24 made it on to Student Council. So proud of how well she is embracing opportunities and adjusting to her new school despite the challenges!
I had very nice chats with health policy aides if 3 of my 4 Congress persons. The meetings were all very cheery and upbeat. The the two aides I met last year in DC seemed to remember me and the policy issues I am concerned about.
Life is feeling normal again. My calendar is no longer a complete blank. Some social events in person over the next few week (socially distanced, outside, with masks, all safe to do).
I have started a habit of going to the beach after work several afternoons each week, and on the weekends. It’s so close to my house - what took me so long? It’s beautiful, serene, not crowded on weekdays, and great exercise (the hill back to the parking lot is INTENSE). And that smell of fresh kelp and seawater: I love it! I’m planning a move to the desert sometime in the next few years to my consulting/retirement stage of life, and I’m going to treasure the beach being so close while I am still here.
Through texting a friend with elders, found an excellent adult day care program that IS accepting new patients at this time. It soundS very nurturing and engaging and should be a fit for my mom when she’s ready to attend. The friend had her MIL there and she loved it and thrives on the attention and nurturing!
I’m pleased to know this option exists when we are ready as an extended family to consider it.
Just heard from my daughter (who is expecting a baby in December) that at her doc visit yesterday, the doctor said baby was “perfect”! D is incredibly nervous and doesn’t want to do anything to “jinx the birth”. Hence no showers and she’s only going to shop for baby things after Thanksgiving. Of course, I’m shopping and keeping stuff with me.
We are getting our final refund from Delta! We will have 2 ecredits, for the portions of the tix we used credits to pay with, so that’s fine. The rest is going back on the credit card. Finally!!
We just found out that S and DIL are expecting second GD.
Just got a little postcard thing sealed closed— almost threw it out— but it turned out to be a settlement check from the Wells Fargo class action suit where they set up those fake accounts. It was a check for almost $250!
