Just scheduled Moderna dose 2 for Tuesday! Then I can start planning visits with my vaccinated Dad and hopefully toddler Grandchild.
We planted 200 tulips last year. My 85 year old Dad just reminded me that Springs’ around the corner and those tulips are going to be coming up. I had forgotten about them.
As our D and S grew up, H and I made many sacrifices to give them private school/college educations, music and sports opportunities, camps, etc. We always drove used cars (sometimes really old) and lived in a very modest home. I know that many CC families have done the same.
D has always been very appreciative. She often told me that some day she would buy me a new car. Last week she actually did it! I tried to decline. She told me she knew this would happen and that all the paperwork was already completed and that it was a ‘final sale’. H was involved at the last minute to sign the paperwork, but it was a big surprise to me. It came with a big red bow.
That’s amazing!! Enjoy it, @hrh19!!
@hrh19 , that is a wonderful gift!
I have had the same appreciative gift given to me and dh by our son and DIL. I began babysitting their baby when she was 5.5 months old, driving to their home where they both work from home, in order to keep her safe as long as possible. My Christmas present from them is a trip to Paris for us and them in May 2022! I cried. Just overwhelmed. After they come home, dh and I are taking a river cruise from Lyon to Nice.
It’s nice to be appreciated like this.
My S has bought me my last 2 iPhones—the 6s and the SE2. I protested they weren’t needed but he insisted.
S will be returning to the states permanently in May. He has received offers from 2 of his top grad school options- so he has a choice to make but it’s a happy choice.
That is awesome! I have to admit, I’m envious. Want my son out of Beirut.
This week two of us went to the beach and two went skiing then switched the following day. I love NE in the Spring.
Where is your son now? I’m sure I’ve read it but I can’t remember.
D’19 had one whole day off this semester (last Monday) so we planned to visit her summer camp job as they wanted to meet her. Beautiful 70 degree day (when we planned this in February, it was single digits or worse and hard to imagine doing an outdoor tour). She fell in love with the place and the town. I think she’s going to have a great summer!

SO HAPPY for my 22-year-old daughter. The new relief package means that $10,200 of her unemployment benefits will not be taxed, saving her about $1,000. Plus she will get all three tax stimulus payment checks - another $3,200! She wasn’t originally eligible since she was our dependent in 2019, but she wasn’t in 2020 so they changed the rule. Yay!
Very happy that I was able to send vaccine registration links to loved ones. One had gotten an appt for 4/4! He’s very happy as he’s got a chronic health condition which makes him at higher risk.
Daughter got the rare fully funded masters degree program for a liberal arts degree. Tuition, fees, a stipend and to make Mom happy, health insurance!
I’ve been using the NYT Covid Tracker app to chart cases in 10 cities during the last two months. I’m finally seeing a slowdown, leading me to think this latest variant may peak soon.
Wow, that would be great. I’m getting discouraged.
A hockey fan sitting behind the bench of the opposing team is concerned about a mole on the neck of an equipment manager. She writes on her cell phone it might be cancerous and shows it to him during the game. The equipment manager had a biopsy, and it was melanoma.
The two were reunited when the team came back to town on New Year’s Day. The fan will be going to medical school this year, and it was announced at the game that the Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Kraken are contributing $10,000 toward her medical education.

After unbelievably tragic wildfire damage near Boulder CO (1000+ homes lost), it has been encouraging to see the outpour of donations.
The Boulder Community Foundation (which did great work after 2013 floods) has raised almost $20 million. Also millions more from TV news station funds, GofundMe accounts, $1 million from American Warehouse furnitures, etc etc. Community foundation receives $19.5 million and counting for people impacted by Marshall Fire
My dearest friend lives in that area, and the flames stopped less than a quarter mile from her townhome. She is fortunate to be able to stay with friends in the area, since she can’t go back until all of the utilities are back online. It’s been so traumatizing for her - I can’t imagine how horrible it is for those who lost their homes.
