Tell me somethin' good . . .

My friend in Los Alamos had the only house that withstood the fires awhile back, thanks to a newish metal roof. She felt so sad for her neighbors and coworkers and threw at least one party or more, trying to feed and comfort those she could. I sent her the largest capacity rice cooker Costco had.

Daughter and fiance just moved into their new house. She’s a second-year medical student and he’s a pilot for a major U.S. airline.

My daughter took possession of her new home this weekend too. They have about a month of work to do before they move in (floors, paint, fix the fence) and have to travel for yet another wedding in Feb. Everyone’s happy!

S has now TWO offers for a masters  I wasn’t sure he would get one :joy: Just waiting to see which has the best money offer :money_mouth_face: Looks like he will be with you for another two years

Two big brags in one post, as I have two kids and don’t want to play favorites.

D1 is in a master’s program that is fully funded for the school year but she has to pay for the summer, and really has to travel to Europe to do research. She had a tiny grant for this summer’s travel to Germany (and Poland, which is now changed to Prague) but just got a big grant to pay for most of the trip, and she gets to teach museum studies/art history next year rather than the dreaded History of Wyoming. She’s very excited. I’m excited she’ll have enough money to eat this summer, and probably enough to sleep inside too.

D2 made the team for the Woman’s World Championship of Lax this summer. Go team China!

This morning I got a request from David Austin roses to use 2 of my most recent David Austin rose pictures on Instagram. I felt honored but have no idea what it’s all about, I don’t even follow them, but I granted the request.

Bought a David Austin rose for my mum’s Mother’s Day. Hoping it will too be asked to pose on Instagram

Blacks Barbecue in Austin. Oh my gosh. Best brisket I’ve ever had. It’s a good thing I don’t still live in Austin or I would weigh 500 pounds.

We had a laugh picking out cookies at the grocery store. We selected Pepperidge Farm Bordeaux cookie, my husband’s favorite. His mother used to tell a great story of the little boys telling her friends, “we just love Bordello cookies!”. Sometimes a fun memory makes a chore less dreary.

After several terrifying weeks and multiple diagnositic studies, we learned today that one of the loves of our lives does not have cancer or any life threatening condition. Excuse me while I go into my closet and sob with relief and then come out acting like I had faith all along.

Costco got in the Duracell 500, lithium ion rechargeable battery at store 5 minutes from our house so I can have my electrical medical equipment run during a power outage.

It was $500-$100 coupon so net $400. Fully charges in 4 hours and holds charge for 1 year. It only weighs 10 pounds, so I could evacuate with it in an emergency. It’s a much handier option for me than some of the other options I had contemplated. I like that I own it outright and don’t have to deal with any medical equipment rental companies.
