Tell Me Something Good

We are going to be on a tour of S. Korea in April–I’ve never been there but H has. He only went for work and this trip will be as tourists for both of us. I’ll let you know how it is when we return. I’m excited! There is a nonstop flight from HNL to Seoul, which we will be flying on! Yeah!

Himom, please let me know. I think this trip is now morphing into my world tour. My 2 kids can go the first 2 locations and then fly back on their own.
Anybody has experience booking a world tour.

Our S booked himself a “world tour” of sorts–actually he mainly was going to Thailand but circled the globe in the process. He tried to have 12 hour layovers in as many places as he could en route. He enjoyed his layover in Germany, a few hour in Japan, 12 hours in Honolulu (where he went stand up paddleboarding and visited with us briefly, and then back to his place on the East Coast.

One of my friends booked a multi-city trip to many places all over the world. She was surprised that the tickets were more affordable than she had expected. She did a lot of research and had a blast. She went to Taiwan (among other places), where her first grandchild was born.

I like using ITASOFTWARE.com to get an idea of fares and airlines. You can look at multi-city itineraries and do up to 2 days prior and 2 days after target date to get some ideas of the range of schedules and fares.

It sounds like a lot of fun! I’ve gotten so I like to spend days to a week or longer at each destination we go to, so that affects how many places we see on any trip, as H tends not to like being away for extended numbers of weeks.

It was predicted a hurricane would/might hit our state this weekend but instead it has given our state wide berth and we just have lots of rain and perhaps strong winds in parts of the islands. Our island of Oahu has mostly been OK weather and folks even had stand up paddleboard lessons in the ocean this morning (tho they were advising people to stay away from the ocean). We are grateful that mostly our state appears to have been spared this time around, as we were hit with two hurricanes just before our primary election a few weeks back. That’s very good news for those of us living and visiting here!

My kiddo #2 wants to go to Oahu next, she is bored with Maui.

might want to look at a few days in iceland, they have 4 day layovers there on the way to europe. loved loved loved iceland. we never have been gone for more than 2.5 weeks. we found that if we did not spend at least 3 days each place it felt like we were always traveling. we try to do one country at a time. if we go back then less time and more countries. just our approach.

rocky, that has always been my philosophy but since we don’t like long flight and if I’m half way there, as in New Zealand, I might as well do that part of the world, save me from coming back to it. I’m doing research on this world tour thing. Yesterday I saw from STA travel site, 5 stops for less than $2000, pretty reasonable. I thought it would cost a lot more.

Have never been to Iceland but there definitely has been more attention there since the volcanoes. I love Oahu, but am biased, since I’ve lived here most of my life. There’s probably more for folks to do here, as it is a big city.

We have some amazingly talented folks performing in our local theater and opera productions at amazingly low prices. We have great musicians, some national concerts and other acts, shows at many of the hotels, museums, art and even an international film festival.

iceland is not for everyone. it is both D"s (think geology) dream location. it is very friendly, very rural, and views to die for. glaciers, aura borealis, unique food and animals. easy to get around with a rental car. different. only negative - all the younger under 30 crowd spoke perfect english.

I doubt that many of us speak Icelandic.

I’ve been spending time searching for my world tour. As of now it seems like tacking on another country is out of the question because The Great Escape with Virgin Atlantic and Air New Zealand airlines has to start from London and it goes toward Asia first, not where I want to start. But the fare is pretty inexpensive. Max stop is 10.
So now the trip will just be Hawaii, Bora Bora, New Zealand and Australia. The main place is Bora Bora, but it’s hard to decide on which hotel for memorable experience without costing an arm and a leg, or perhaps 2 kidneys too.

Just got back from three weeks in AUS and NZ. I will say that nine days in NZ was NOT enough. It is spectacular!

Something good:

My 9-year-old son was up early this morning, and so was I (clock change here in the UK). I read to him the end of a chapter of The Two Towers before it was light outside.
